Don't You Just Hate It When …

… you're setting up things for a birthday party. Your Sim bakes the cake, but before she placed the birthday candles, she leaves the room The toddler is hangry and enters the kitchen and before you can say STOP, the baby grabs a piece of the cake. But of course.

Good thing the party isn't set until 5 PM. Yikes. This in a game save where I'm trying to recreate my Global Superstar. Had several setbacks and then discovered the game save was corrupted. So, I had to start again. Best way I know how to instill Values is when the Sim is a Child. Of course, I did a quick Internet search and found the cheats for it. Yay. My potential star is set to become a teen. That's why his only sister had to steal some cake, early. Face/palm. Everything just to get under my skin …

I had a (non-active/townie) Sim invite my (active) Sim to their birthday party. Only to have the guests show up at my Sims house. I mean, you asked me to your party, not to host it! :*

Then their was the time I got invited by club friends (renegades in this case) to “hang out”. The invite said the night club and I thought, cool new people. After the loading screen they ended up at the (deserted) Bluffs. :s

The cake one is a classic.

I always have to pause the game after baking the cake to make sure I can select “add candles” or else someone will try to grab a slice.

My sim had twin teenagers about to age up. The first twin blew out the candles but before the second one could blow them out (who was standing right next to the cake) the mum push past her and grabbed a slice. She was punished, made to put down the cake so I could throw it in the trash and made her make another.

My sim made a birthday cake and put candles on it and left it on the counter I thought no one would eat it then, no one did till the maid put the cake in the refrigerator then someone took a piece... ugh :|

Back in Sims3, I punished a Sim when she flirted with her boyfriend's new brother-in-law right in front of the ENTIRE family on Gift Giving Day. She wound up in the bin. To this day that's where she is. LOL I never let her back out. :open_mouth::*o:)

I started doing this as well, had to use the same cake for my twins but then their child got to it first, had to bake another one. Have since learned my lesson, don’t trust those little scoundrels

I always make sure they all eat a meal first, even if its just a quick meal. Then while I am baking the cake, I double check to see if anyone needs to eat a little something before the cake is done. It works much better for me that way :D

I do it this way because the same thing always happened to me, they grabbed a piece before I could add candles.

I'm doing the 100 baby challenge at the moment and it's horrible, especially when you have 7 children/toddlers in the house and only one aging up.
So what I do is I have the "backup cake". It's a cake I baked at some point that no one ate (three birthdays in a row, all the toddlers where constatly on a sugar rush) and it ended up in the household inventory. When a cake is in the household inventory it does not age, at all.
So when one of my sims decides to be naughty and take a piece I pause, whip out the other cake, and put it back in the inventory as soon as they are aged up.
It's probably cheating, but cooking 3 cakes in a row for the same sim and not having them age up because someone would take a piece was seriously testing my patience.

4 times in a row by the sim who baked the cake. Instant she set it down she grabbed a slice. She wasn't even hungry and did not have the glutton trait so I figure she just wasn't ready for her child to grow up Hahaha

The worst moment for me was when I was having a wedding and had brought the wedding cake along to the venue because it didn't have a kitchen (it wasn't a wedding event just a free form wedding in Windenburg) and the bride's dad grabbed a slice of it before I could get the topper on it there was no way to make a second cake so they had to make due without the extra interactions with it...

This hasn't been as bad it used to be or maybe I'm just good and quickly getting the candles on it.

Also Pro Tip you can actually store an uneaten cake in the fridge with candles on it and it will keep for a while which is good for a 100 Baby save where you're having a lot of birthdays in a short space of time but don't want to constantly have to make cakes and/or have your family constantly eating cake.

I always have two or three back-up cakes in the fridge around the time of a birthday coming up. Can't guarantee they won't have had a sneaky slice removed though.

You do realize you can add the topper and then place the cake into the Sims' inventory, right? ;)

I threw a bday party for my baby the other day and I kept wondering: How was it when you celebrate a babies bday? Can you bring them to the cake? No, they are stuck to the crib. But maybe.. their parent will carry them to the cake. Hmm, don't remember seeing that before. And who blows the cake? The baby surely can't do it. The parent then? Would the parent not age up then?

Then i clicked on the cake to see if I could age the baby up through it and of course it wasnt possible. Im not sure what I was thinking, but the guests were already there, cakes was baked and the house was packed. So just aged up the baby and ate cake without candles. I wish parents could just blow the candles and the baby would grow up this way though.

    Talking about food.

I also hate it when you throw a dinner party or make a big festive food breakfast/dinner and guests grab a plate and just sit everywhere else in the house instead of all on the table. I wish there was a easier way to have them take drinks and food from the middle of the table while sitting and remain chatting.

There is no cake for the baby. You just click on the bassinet and find where it says Age Up. Voila.

Yes, but in this case, it wasn't the toddler's birthday, but her older brother's. :open_mouth:

You do realize that you can bake your sim's birthday cakes at an earlier time when there aren't lots of hungry sims around and then place it into your sims' inventories or the fridge, right? ;-)

My story took place YEARS ago when I'd just gotten the game and no I wasn't aware that this was something you could do because I'd never had an off site destination wedding before. I was sharing it simply because it was related to the topic at hand and maybe it was something that other people might also not realize it could happen because they don't do destination weddings either.

But since this is something you clearly know about why don't you do it yourself with your birthday cakes if you find the stolen pieces such an issue for you?

If you set the table, then set your prepared food in the center and call to meal, you will have most if not all of your Sims so just that.

Every birthday I'm majorly paranoid of this! especially if my sims are celebrating at a public lot where they can't just bake another cake....
