Okay. Back in the sims 2 and 3, I just let my Sims do stuff by their own and enjoyed the mayhem whenever there was a party or something.
But in Sims 4, sims don't do... anything.
How do you keep the dance parties and festivals interesting?
I try hard, but seriously, it's mostly a borefest for me.
I'm mildly amused by ghosts nights or bear nights at the bar, but beside that...
I want to play ALL the premade families! One day...

I mostly use the dance party to socialise. They dance the whole time while talking and sometimes looking for an interesting new someone to flirt with.
I personally don’t worry too much what random other Sims are doing. There’s always plenty of them and they mill around happily enough.
I had a sim invite me to a lot and basically ditch me, the lot she invited me to had nothing to do at that time, it was pretty much a waste of time.
It's odd to have a Sim invite me over to just go to bed or something. I tend to avoid their invitations now.
This happens in my game a lot.
Many times I have literally had them leave the lot entirely. And while they are on the lot together, I don't see why Sims in that 'Group' don't stay near one another. The festival lots are huge, so one will be inside the karaoke bar and the other is at the festival. Its a bit absurd.

I love the Humor and Hijinks festival, especially if my sim is living in that area. If they don't go, they still get to see the fireworks at the end.
Groups are a great way to really get sims active in an event, party, or festival. When such occurs, start a gathering and get your members into the spirit by tweaking the group activities to fit the theme. Humor and Hijinks? Encourage mischief. Get all your members on one team and decimate the other side. It does require active involvement, but does get the spirit into the events. Have fun with it.
