I wanted to remodel my sims house but they were broke. I was thinking of the fastest way to make money, and I could think of anything quicker than dragon hatching. My sims had $800 so I bought them two eggs had them talk to them and by the end of the day they had $10000. It would have been more if I had had more to spend in the beginning. It almost feels like cheating, because your sims don't need any special skills and it only takes 15 minutes to activate the egg. Then they can do what ever they want for the next 6 hours. There's no risk, you don't need a buyer, and each egg is a profit of $600.
Is this the quickest, easiest way to make money or is there something faster except cheats of course.

That's why I think dragon hatching is tantamount to cheating simply because by the next morning they had $20000 and started with $800.

Day 1: Send your sim to the library to read the level 1 skill book until they hit skill level 3. Spend the rest of the day wandering around town getting as many new subjects as you can and watch your skill shoot up. Make sure to get as many "structure" photographs as you can--the architecture skill challenge is your goal, in addition to getting your skill as high as you can.
Day 2: Egypt vacation. Buy the most expensive camera as soon as you can. Finish off the architecture challenge if you couldn't in your home town. Each day, take photos of the pyramids, sphinx, market and abu simbel... then spend the rest of your day exploring and enjoying your vacation. Max out the return for this with the jetsetter and prepared traveller LTRs.
Arrive home: Sell photos. Profit.
Might take a bit more investment than dragon eggs to afford that vacation initially and the first day you'll get very little return, but it's pretty good. I did this unintentionally while playing a challenge and completely broke the challenge.
@KaytayRoall At least, if I did it that way I would feel so much like a cheater!

Try going to the casino. The slot machines are a great way to make money.

The op said she needed money for her newly weds to buy a nice house so I wrote out the way I normally make money. Sorry it’s long and rambly but maybe you’ll find it useful. In that thread Igazor also mentions the casino. If you have Lucky Palms casino installed, it’s pretty hard not to come out on top and make good money. Even more so if your sim has the lucky trait.
"NO...find something valuable first...preferably a tiberium!."
Did I mention "Tiberium farming"?
Always "River McIrish" ...and maybe some Bebe Hart. ~innocent expression~
Am surprised no one has mentioned this yet. A printing press in the basement. Too obvious?

I like going to uni on the fist day of the game. Enroll for a 2 week session. As soon as your sim arrives have them apply for extra funds at the administration building. Since you start out with a C average you will only get $2500 that first day. Every 24 sim hours have your sim apply for more funds. Your goal is to get their grade as high as you can - an A average grade is worth $5000. After your sim takes the final on Friday they should have an A. Since nothing your sim does can increase their grade on the weekend don't bother studying or working with major specific object, instead party. Your sim should be pulling in close to $5000 a day after that first Friday. As soon as your sim gets home send them for a second 2 week session. When your sim returns home that first Sunday they should have a degree and around $90,000, including their initial $16,500 (if your sim moved onto an empty 10x10 lot). Invest the money in the quick return partnerships (Spa/book store combo, film back lot, hospital, business/bistro combo, or the hospital/science lab combo). The next morning (that first Monday) collect your dividends and sell off some or all of your partnerships and buy a nice house.
Metals - once you get 8 pieces of 2 - 4 metals, turn it into Compendium. Compendium value is based on the value of the metals used plus an additional 10-20%. Then use the compendium itself in the eight pieces of 2-4 different ores, thereby increasing it's own value exponentially. Then either consign the ingot or hold on to it until you get another 7 pieces of ore and again use it's own value to increase it's value.
The nice bit about both of these ways is that they take no skill at all.
Then, of course, consign the bars.
If you have WA, then taking a short trip to France for the titanium would probably be lucrative depending on how much you collected.
Edit: Thought of another way: go to the future, for free unless you sold the first portal that always appear in a new game; buy a lotto ticket and cash in once back home.
Edit 2: Oh my I like this thread! Another one, very entertaining, but might require some work:
In one game my active sim household ran a sort of retirement home: since having befriended the whole town they got notices when someone was about to die (some say you need a landline phone for this), there is a window of one day before; so they asked them to move in and sold their loose stuff, for instance the sloppy jalopy car in everyone's inventory, greeted Grim and started over. Such a good game!
In Isla Paradiso, in Edit Town mode before you even choose a sim to play, build the free resort up to Level 5 and put as many tower resort rugs there as you want and max them out for capacity. Go into live mode and choose your sim household to play as usual and get the free resort. The next day, you will get a ton of money depending on how many resort tower rugs you have there and will get this amount everyday! Earning the Hotel Mogul LTR will give you even more! For example, I placed 6 tower resort rugs and maxed them out before playing in live mode. That got me around 20,000 simoleons everyday from the resort even before getting the Hotel Mogul LTR, And since the resort is already a 5-star resort, you will unlock one of the hidden islands too!
I think I'll implement some of you guys' ideas in future to mix things up. So, keep the ideas rolling!

That's the same attitude I took when I decided to play Isla Paradiso with this current family. I don't do money cheats, due to the routing errors in the world, and just the fact that it takes hours to get anywhere if you live anywhere but on the main island, I teleport my sims everywhere. I don't care if it's cheating, it's not a challenge game.

The way that I make money is a little bit complex in the Sims 3. I like to have several streams of income. So, firstly, my sim doesn't work a real job. I get a dog and a cat and send them out to collect gems and animals. They make me a lot of money on their own when combined with the gem cutter. But I also send my sims to all the hot spots for metals and gems. Anything with a value of 50+ gets smelted and then sold in inventory and all gems get cut to bring in more revenue.
Next I send my sims to collect all the seeds and have them garden. Also flowers, pick those!
They also don't start out with any furniture besides a gem cutter unless its a challenge. They go to the fire station to eat and rest for free. I also have them paint and write. That way they have weekly income coming in in addition to anything that they make or grow or fish going to consignment. I also consignment shop their books. As soon as I have a basic set up with the best bed, toilet, fridge, and shower then I also have them invest all their money into partnerships. Save all your best plant qualities (at least 1 of each perfect) and sell the rest, this way you can easily replant. ^^
In my 100 baby challenge I nearly own the entire town. Sending sims to work is just a waste of time because you can make 5x what they make in a day each day. It's super important to supermax your money making skills. write 5 of the same book, paint 30 paintings etc, because when you do this you make heaps and heaps of money.
It just depends on your play style. I play different challenges in the sims 3 and sims 4 so the rules of making money always changes based off the current challenge.
