How do any of you feel about you have to play the story at least once before you can just play there?
I feel it adds to the fun of the story and can more or less count as a bonus. like you end it and then wannt to play it again but you're like "nah its boring now... at least i can live in the new world tho!"

Haven't played Story series, no idea what to think. But if there is potential role-playing (meaning your character isn't limited to just one specific role) that would be a good start. Otherwise, I like to make my own stories which mostly requires imagination due to some limitations. Detective career was pretty good for it, by the way.

I also think some who might be getting it for the world and other assets might end up having a good time. I loved the Life Stories and this reminds me of that.
I just read a tweet where one says you have to play the story in order to remove it from your game. Which is right?
If you want it completely gone, yes from what I understand you have to play through. But, what SimGuruHouts is saying is that if you don't want to play through the story you can still live in StrangerVille and play your own story you can without the mystery being shoved in your face.

That is still ridiculous! Just let me turn it off!
Would someone have to play it every time they start a new game? Like a Tutorial? ETA: what if you trip up and accidentally do something without thinking and start the story? lol No, really is it possible you could accidentally start the story?

Maybe the best course is to wait and see what the opt out options are.
I'm going to wait to see how exciting the military career is or not. I hope some game changer will explore that, since it seems to be the only career in this pack that we know about. And if they force players to turn off strangeness (the only reason to buy it) if they want to skip the story and just play there with the strangeness. If they make you somehow turn off the strange things that only happen there (?) in order to miss the story scripted stuff, then it would have to be a great world to waste the money on it.

It doesn't sound like a story that once you trigger, you have to play. It sounds like you can just move through it at your own pace or ignore it completely if you want to. It's not an actual story mode.

I hope you are right about the part of not having to finish it or whatever.

Who are they making these gaudy comics for? The trailer was bad enough.
I also want to know why are parts not available until after the pack comes out. I am sure people will already know the mystery by then and will not be interested in the rest of the story...lol
Thanks, it sounds a lot better than the first tweets saying we had to play it through to get it out of the game. lol
ETA: I have enjoyed the GPs more than the EPs. So, they get a lot more credit from me most of the time on the GPs than the base or EPs. I'll give them an A for trying to bring more weirdness to The Sims. (I like weirdness). But have to give them a C on taking time and money to write and plan and animate story driven scripts. That money could have went for something that actually expands the concept of The Sims. It might be o.k. to play it once, but after that, it seems a waste to me.

This looks like a play once and done thing. Exactly the opposite of the type of content The Sims should get, and what The Sims 4 needs more than ever. I don't even think I would get this if it were given to me free.
How many people actually replay JA? And if this is story driven (linear) then how many will play this over and over? Not many is my guess.
I replay JA *guiltily raises hand* The thing is with JA it is tomb raiding for specific sims and also hanging out in the jungle partying because I set up other lots. A specific story is totally different and that will not have replay value for me.
Seem's you have to play into the story a bit, but can be ignored
I love how he says we don't want to force it on you but in order to remove all story elements from the world you have to play through it once...LOL SOOOO wouldn't that be forced on us.

I was just wondering let's say you put your Sim in that town, then delete the characters that fill the roles of that story. What would happen if you then started the story later? How would they put Sims back in the houses or whatever happens to fill those roles? I think it could wind up being a mess if players delete any main characters of a story without realizing they are main characters down the road.

You don't have to play through the story to just live in StrangeVille.

Yes, from what I understand the mystery resets when you begin a new save, and once you solve the mystery it's gone from that save.
The strangeness is confined to StrangerVille.
I would caution however against watching too many let's plays.
I hope you are right about the part of not having to finish it or whatever.
