I would say private something else, but I'm pretty sure it'd come out as "private plum" and well... that sorta thing doesn't necessarily command respect, now does it? Pretty sure it doesn't. Not really in the mood to experiment. Folks like me are simple. We stick to what's real. Proven.
Thing is I've been up and down these forums and countless others just like them. I've picked through all the tumblrs, suffered a myriad blogs. Even called in enough contacts on the Russian and Chinese sites to make the Homeland Security plum their pants. No, people don't spawn fruits in their bloomers, no matter what the commercials say. At least that I know of. But this is a Sims forum, kid. You comment, you post, you learn.
And my lesson here? It's time to face facts: The trails have run cold. And I'm at the end of my rope.
You see, I'm what they call a CC hunter. I'm paid big Simoleans to reel in old Sims 3 content that no one else can find. Okay, maybe "big" Simoleans is a bit of an exaggeration. CC is a funny thing. It's here one day and gone the next. Tumblrs drop dead every second out here.
Hmm..? Sorry, didn't you know that? Well, I won't sugarcoat the deal for you, sweetheart. Even your nearest and dearest blog can bite the proverbial bullet at any given moment. Without rhyme, reason or fair warning from your ISP. That's life in the big city. You learn, you adapt, you survive.
What's that..? Right. So, maybe I'm not paid in Simoleans. Not exactly.
You catch my drift though. When a site goes kaput, typically so does the CC. And even lovely Lady Google can't find a piece of CC that just doesn't wanna be found. That's where I come in. CC's run out on you or vanished leaving only their Pinterest pic, well, I'm the man to message. No matter how obscure the little piece of digital sims creative history in question may be, my deal's to sniff it out and trace it to its final posting place. It's the work of a curator. And somebody's gotta do it.
Huh..? Fine, fine. So maybe just maybe I'm not paid at all.
And maybe? Maybe I do it for me. Because I'm returning to Sims 3 after a not-so-brief hiatus. Getting hacked tends to do that to a guy. Only to find that the search results are now infested with dead links, a ghost town of abandoned blogs and tumblrs, and plum only knows how many utterly useless references to Sims 4, not to mention brand new and active links to Sims 2 material if you can believe that.
Up until now, anything I've crossed I've been able to bloodhound and bay. I can be quite the tenacious bulldog on that and these, or so I'm told. The following 3 cases though are an entirely different breed. It's like they simply aren't or weren't there. These cases as yet remain... unsolved.

Case 1 - Shorts with 3D Buttons for Females by Ulito4ka
They're nautical shorts cut in 50s style with real 3D buttons. Made by somebody called ulito4ka. The Yandex link says the limit has been reached whatever that means, and of course, the tumblr of origin is now sleeping with the fishes. File name is "af shorts ulito4ka.sims3pack".

Case 2 - Accessory Flannel Shirt or Jacket Tied Around the Waist for Females
I may have spotted this one tied around the waist of a sim in the likeness of one Ruby Rose, a boyish dame with an eccentric style and the kinda mug that's tough to shake from memory. Found at least one forum talking about the idea but never saw it put into practice. Could be a ghost.

Case 3 - Unnamed Sheer Lacy Crop Top for Females
This one really has me scratching under my fedora. I do know for a fact that this one existed at some time. It's been used multiple times by someone named artemis sims to showcase her hairstyle creations, but no mention is made of where it came from. What's worse, I ain't exactly what you'd call a fashionista either. So I'm not even sure what sorta wording to use to hunt it down. Thank plum for pngs.

Day started like any other. Except it was Friday. And it was cold. Rainy.

Actual sheets of water.
Enough to plaster you to the parking lot even though you're early for that once in a lifetime. Enough to drench the boards and the sheets and the cases you're struggling to get inside. Enough to make you wanna just sit in the musty front seat of your sloppy jalopy and ponder whose bright idea it was to create morning meetings.
Windshield wipers? Now that's invention. Perfect for what they're meant to do. And ideal for things they were not. Like sitting. Waiting. Watching. They're hypnotic. Haunting. Healing. Whoever thought up windshield wipers is a certified genius. Oughta be given a medal and a parade.
I can't tell you how I managed to pull myself outta that trance. But I dashed in to the office only to find my contacts apparently had better things to do that morning. Figures. I'm wet, I'm cold. But the odd thing about green tea and honey is that it's good right out of the mini fridge or right outta the bottom drawer.
Yeah, it's barely 7 in the AM.

She wasn't, you know. That dame who thought up the windshield wipers? Most people don't even know her name. Her patents expired and she didn't make a dime for creating that little unsung wonder of the world.
But me, I always give credit where credit is due. So when I realized I'd almost stepped on a notification pushed into my inbox mail slot by one @KatyFernlily, well, I knew my luck might finally be taking a turn. The manila envelope was damp yet stiff in my clammy hands, the ink still legible.

This little gift almost makes this washed up and washed out CC hunter wanna give up that bottle of Gold Peak and finally settle down for a good and long gaming session. Maybe Roaring Heights. Find that sim family to call home. Picket fence. TV dinners. Bel Air sedan. You know, the whole ball of wax.
That other part of me though is still restless. Knows all that has to wait.
Hopefully? Not much longer.

Doesn't matter how much you give it out, it don't mean you'll ever get it back.
The local precinct is a prime example of that kinda grim reality.
Don't get me wrong. I ain't down on the girls and boys in blue. Used to be a flatfooted uni myself some moons ago. Problem is the glare and the gloss and the glitter of the badge can blind you if you're not careful. To the details that can make or break a case. That sorta tunnel vision follows you even after your time on the force. And before you know it, you've made a move you can't undo because the game is already saved.
Me and cops? Let's just say we're familiar but not friendly, professional but not necessarily amicable.
And the Chief downtown. Heh. While I trust the grisly old leviathan, we both know we'll never be drinking buddies at the nearby juice and tea bar. As if Waylon's Haunt ever let an honest guy bring in his own bottle of Gold Peak anyways.

Yeah, long story short. Chief'd used some choice Simlish to signal my exit from his office. And me, I'm fluent in flippant and promptly told him to plum off as I did, skulking back towards the sidewalk, my sloppy jalopy, another parking ticket I may or may not pay, and maybe a Gold Peak if I could manage to unjam the glove compartment again.
That's when a detective I'd never met before falls into step beside me.
She didn't say much. Didn't have to. The name was @Ziristha. And she'd apparently done her homework, finding that search engine loophole I'd been too out of the loop to catch. Not gonna lie. This was the case I'd tossed into my longshot pile. Accepting that my main sim's main squeeze would just have to make due with her old v-neck cardigan.
And then, like that, the case was cracked wide open for me. Talk about unexpected.
So, no. I ain't down on cops.
And no, you don't always get the respect you put out there. But sometimes? Respect comes to you outta nowhere. This time in the form of a guardian angel named @Ziristha.

57 minutes can be a long time.
When you're pinned like an interest, with no way out, you gotta lotta opportunities to contemplate that notion. Or.. Maybe just one long opportunity. I honestly don't know.
Wikis say redcoats were able to fight an entire war in less than 45. To put things in mookish CC hunter terms, I've waited for pizzas longer than that. Chances are you have too. You don't believe me, try watching the clock in sim time next night you get that itch no mac n cheese can scratch.
Me, I'm deep in a hot pot of it right this minute. Crouching behind the crates, hopefully hidden enough by shadows and the fog spawner modifying this version of the Bridgeport docks to not draw the attention of the night guard.
The night guard who obviously has no K9 with him. Or I'd have long since been outed by the smack of cheap veggie pizza wafting off my trench coat.
Not really sure why the plum these sims just seem to linger around the office when they finally do show up either. I mean, don't they have other pizzas to deliver? And what kinda place delivers only to me and lets their drivers slum around my digs all night helping themselves to my pie and drinking' up every Gold Peak in sight?
Now the footsteps are headed my way.
Oh for plum's sake, I think ducking back towards a row of oil drums as a flashlight beam starts to move in my direction.
But the way I figure? It's either share my za with the help who's not any help or purchase that EA Wood Fire Oven from you-know-where.
Store content can be a total waste of time and money. Sure, it may sound good on paper, but more often than not, you find yourself thinkin'... well, what the plum was I thinkin'?

Plus the client was jonesing for tjstreak's F-15 Eagle, and my Fresh Prince lead to the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II had already long since ended in a big fat question mark.

Okay.
This is Sims 3. I ain't questioning the logistics. I'm just glad to be back on the street again. Back in my sloppy jalopy again. I realize by now that it's been a whole hour now since my last drink. Which is just ridiculous. So I rap the glove compartment hard one good time, right under the key slot, a trick a certain BPD detective showed me once.
And instantly out pops a bottle of golden glory.
Along with a crumpled and tea-stained stack of files I musta forgotten about. How'd these get in here..?

I'm shaking my head, frowning in practiced pessimism. Like surveying a great CC image that my guts tell me is a dead link. Package from one @SweetDevil care of Agent @Pary out of Monte Vista.
Thing is everybody knows there ain't no post office to pick up your pickups in Bridgeport. Which means they gotta be forwarded to a trusted recipient.
I didn't wanna go back to the docks at this time of night. I mean, REALLY didn't wanna go back. But I'm my main sims best man, and I'm pretty sure it's that gift I'd reached out to @Pary for on a long shot. It didn't surprise me she'd delivered. She's a kid making some real waves over there. International. Much bigger fish than this guy.
Still, it did surprise me how fast she got back to me. I mean, who the plum was this @SweetDevil anyways? Did she deal in the black market? Was she in with the government? Or the military? And what about @Pary herself? The toothy dame don't seem to age, as crazy as that sounds. Reminds me of some of these pale types here in Bridgeport. People talk, you know. But that's all way above my pay grade either way. Best not to ask.
Expect the unexpected, I mumbled aloud as I pulled the sticky note off the old lead paint job crackling over the front door of my office.
The parking lot at The Grind wasn't packed. It never is. Most folks in this town either brave the subway or shove their SUVs into their pockets. I don't bother with my sloppy jalopy. Nobody steals cars in Bridgeport. And they wouldn't bother with mine if they did.
Their loss.

Yeah, she's the bartender here. Probably not the brightest move letting the delivery come to her. But again, I had no idea @Pary was that connected. Gotta shift gears with the expectations now that I'm playing in the big leagues, I guess.
The bright pulsating colors make me squint my eyes as I squeeze in amongst the throngs of much younger, much hotter sims and push my way towards the crowded bar. Needless to say, it's gonna be interesting trying to talk my package out of her hands without spilling the jelly beans.
I take a deep breath, wipe at my damp brow and try to look casual, despite being the only sim dressed like James Cagney in a room full of what might as well be Biebers and Beliebers.

You'd think a Bridgeport CC hunter would have better things to do than sit around reading license plates.
And you'd be right.
But the plum is in the details. In case you're that one sheep too innocent to know, that is. And sometimes, a hunch is worth those few extra steps that most would consider a complete waste of time.
Take the trusty Mega.nz Storage and Delivery Service, for instance.
When it comes to chasing lost CC archives, you'll usually hear the same big names like this dropped over and over:
MediaFire Trucking.
Adfly Rentals.
The immaculate invitation-only SimsFileShare Shipping.
And yes, even the infamous Yandisk Unlimited, hands down THE worst offender for dead links, lost .package files, and lotsa stuff that just conveniently seems to... fall outta the back of the truck if you know what I mean. Often ending up, of all places, on the loading docks of the Outstanding Citizen Warehouse Corporation. Never to be seen again.
Talk about a rabbit hole.
Me? I know all the schedules and most of the routes. I got maps and floor plans of the warehouses, both official an "unofficial". I keep a growing directory of license plates. Yeah, the tumblrs and blogs and pinterests might be the cute, bubbly faces that simmers fall in love with when we're out and about for that CC fix. But all that comes and goes, as any hunter'll tell ya. The storage is the true heart and lifeblood of things.
It's the storage that keeps these things alive.
That's why when Agent @Pary pointed out a slight variation in the plates of a local Mega.nz truck in my area according to her database, I hadda double-check my own sources. Yep. The kid was right again. This truck I didn't recognize from the fleet. So needless to say, I was more than a little bit intrigued.
By the ways, you ever try to follow a truck in Bridgeport? Or any vehicle for that matter?

Lemme repeat that so there's absolutely no confusion on the matter.
It does not work.
I remember just two generations ago, you could watch bumpers meet bumpers on a given sims city street from the sidewalk, horns honking like crazy. Just like real traffic. Not anymore. These days? Cars don't stop. Not for signs, not for lights. Not even for other cars. No kidding, I've actually seen them go right through each other a time or two. I mean, what the plum is THAT all about..?
And then? When they do get to wherever it is they're in such a rush to? Well, then the entire vehicle is gone. Poof. Pow. Without a trace.
It was a ridiculous kinda problem for a CC hunter to have, as you can probably guess.
Until one day this humble guy just shows up unannounced at the office and says to me "Hazel, what you need is superior technology." And he just gives me this big box. "Use it! Use it, I say!" And then off he goes as weird and wacky as any Dr. Seuss character. Or maybe escaped mental patient. I guess that's open to interpretation.
What's even weirder and wackier though? Now I got this bird's eye view of the city. Complete with tags on places, on peoples and yeah, you guessed it, on vehicles. Including my mystery Mega.nz truck.
I'd already tracked most of the Modish Kitten collection to another truck that regularly makes its url rounds amid the forums of adoring simmers who still can't let go, even after the simming joys of the open world were ultimately deemed.... "too demanding" by the EA powers that be.
@Pary said this one was different.
I savored the last swallow of my Gold Peak, tossed the plastic bottle at the recycle bin and missed then frowned at the screen.

Turns out the uploader couldn't have cared less as they sat in a booth and chomped on the greasy fare under the neon glow of the Hogan's Deep Fried Diner sign.
Probably knew what I was looking for. Probably gets the same questions day in and day out from other CC hunters just like me. If they did care either way, they sure didn't show it. Too distracted with the grease.
That and the plumawful kiddie show that kept looping every thirty seconds on the little TV screen hanging on the wall. I tried not to cringe at the sinister giggles of the sims frolicking about aimlessly in giant bunny costumes as I flipped through the document. But after a very short while, the happy munchkin voices and weird music got to be too much; seriously, must be what a Justin Bieber concert is like. I wound up ordering a double of green tea with an extra twist of honey just to calm my nerves as I read through the directories. I'm only human after all.

Yeah, @Pary had scored ModishKitten_AccKimonoJacket_Set1_AF.zip no problem. But that elusive ModishKitten_AccKimonoJacket_Set2_AF.zip had somehow flown the coop on this sly fox yet again. Along with all 4 of those fabled genie turbans that no simmer seems to have simmed since the kitten went kaput.
Plum plummit, I muttered as the uploader ignored me, still mesmerized by the happy creepy social bunny show. Definitely a victory for home team and Monte Vista. But the kind that leaves a taste too bitter for even Gold Peak to wash away.
...No matter how much or how often one may be obliged to try of course.
For those of you keepin' score, it looks like our friend Agent @Pary in Monte Vista just tracked down half of one of the Great Five Missing Treasures of the Modish Kitten. If you or anyone you know has any knowledge leading to the whereabouts and safe return of the aforementioned pieces of Sims 3 antiquity, do the entire community a solid and please report such to your nearest forum for registry and redistribution throughout the proper sim channels.
People... CC, like all sim creations, is meant to be shared.
