Mysterious fish

For me that is, I never caught one. Does anyone know what fish this is?

I believe that's fire coming out of its beak? (it's in China)

No, that was clearly fire. No bait, we passed that pool on our way to a tomb but didn’t fish.

If it was Dragon Springs both fish are in the waters, Tancho Koi is used as bait for Dragonfish. The ones visible in the shallow waters are the carps, and the fire from an invisible dragonfish underneath. They are both fish IRL, although dragonfish is slightly freakier, sims has a more fun version

It is a dragon fish. You catch them with the rarest of the kois.

I don’t know about the dragon fish but I put death fish spawners in a pond on one of my lots once and got dozens of those yellow lights along with the fish. The death fish were the only fish in the pond. Maybe the light works for the dragon fish too?

Yes, it is at Dragon Springs I believe. I think it must be the dragon fish, makes sense they spit fire (it was late in the afternoon, maybe they start doing that when it gets dark?). I should have taken a closer look at the fish itself but I just paid attention to the fire unfortunately (because that's what drew my attention). Lol, one would almost forget plum is also an actual word :D

@JACKIEJOY My sim is not a fisher. Her son will be though (next generation) so I'll sure take him to China at some point.

@nickibitsward I don't think it was a death fish, those I recognize (and caught in the past).

They're flaming all day, that is, all night too. It's just more noticeble in the dark, as all shady stuff
    Here's where I found the reference: http://modthesims.info/t/405906

    and tested it: during daytime..

These look like the koi. There are koi that are white with red on them. The dragon fish are scaly.

@Auroraskies Oooh, thanks for that! Yep, someone mentions it even in the link you gave: "Be sure to watch them at night for the best view of them spitting fire" and your picture comparison confirms it.

@nickibitsward Yes, the white-orange fish are koi. The dragon fish likes hiding behind them apparently haha.

I always have my sims that both fish and travel to the WA worlds catch enough to stock a koi pond at home, with all 4 types of koi and dragonfish. The dragonfish always get the middle of the pond.

That’s a good tip, especially when stock has this nasty habit of disappearing from their inventory while travelling sometimes (especially when they return to the WA world I believe).

If I remember correctly, once you catch one you can stock the digital fish tank with them.
  • IreneSwiftIreneSwift Posts: 6,247 Member
I didn't think live fish could be put into the digital fish tank. But regardless, if you stock two of the same kind fish in an aquarium, they'll reproduce. Then you could take out the extras and store them until you have ten, then stock the pond with them. I never really thought of doing that before, though my current sim is raising seahorses in her aquarium, and selling them.
