I lived alone recently, and there were some nights that I was too scared so I left the lights on in the hallway. Most nights it was okay though. I'd leave the window open in my bedroom so I could listen to the crickets!
Normal night, all comfy in bed = 2
Normal night, thinking about too much stuff, particularly existential stuff = 7
A weekend night and I hear lots of people outside making noise and socializing and going to/from parties = 8
