You provided a copy of one of your saved games, no reports. It's the environment the game is running in that we are trying to investigate here, not the game saves themselves. I could, in theory, install the custom world you were playing and see if I can get your game save to load but I wouldn't know what CC and mods (if any) would be required to make it work right or what I have in play that could make things go wrong.

Edit: Never mind, looks like you changed the upload. Trying again.

Got it, mystery solved. Taking this to PMs, this is not a suitable topic for discussion on this forum.

could an unrecognized video card do this?

No, that is not the problem in this case.

can't create a thread of my own... Having a similar issue with a specific save that crashes right about half way through loading. Both the original and backup crash. Fairly certain it's the Riverview_0x0859db43.nhd (195mb) file that's the issue. All other world saves load, thought they're ancient from 2011, and I just started playing with Sims 3 again recently. Tried creating a new town and dumping the .nhd file in and same results. Tried the whole replace the meta.data file, also crashes. If I use a Riverview .nhd (30mb) from an old game it loads, though it loads the town from that old save, so not very useful, just good for testing.

Just want to confirm there's nothing I can do, give up, and go play something else, or there's something I can do to rescue the new sim and her progress? Here's some of the crash info, though I'm guessing it won't help much.

@Zapix_ - The crash log information is not really helpful. All it is telling us is that your game is crashing. I can see though that you are playing on Patch 1.69 and therefore cannot possibly be having the exact same issue that the OP on this thread was even if the symptoms seem similar.

What you have confirmed here is that, for whatever reason, you have a "bad" save. The nhd file is your saved game, or rather the saved instance of Riverview with your sims and progress in it, that is refusing to load. If you can successfully run a new game or an old game, but no matter how you manipulate that particular Riverview nhd file the game instance you are trying to get into will not load, then there really isn't much point in trying to resurrect that saved game any further because it is damaged. This is why we always advise keeping a few extra Save As copies (with slightly different names) of ongoing games we care about on hand so we can revert play should something go wrong with the current one and the one auto-generated backup file.

One thing you could try is pull out your entire TS3 user game folder to the Desktop (or rename it) thus forcing the game to spawn a new one with no content and no saves. Install Riverview on it it, then put a copy of the damaged game save into the new folder to see if it will load in a "clean" no other content environment.

The size of that nhd file at 195 MB is pretty large for Riverview. The game does not do a good job of self-maintenance and over time without further steps being taken using mods and/or Save Cleaning techniques, ongoing saved games will bloat and become corrupt. I can point you to a page full of tips and tricks to help prevent that from happening, but afraid they aren't going to be very useful once it has already done so.

    Thanks for the reply igazor!

Glad I came to the right conclusion after all the testing I did, as well as on a another pc. Tried using S3PE to reduce the size of the nhd file. Tried even with all content disabled except the base game, so yeah... Pretty much burned! Had tried to find any means to extract the sim, but found nothing. Never had such a problem back in 2011~2013, so I'll consider myself a little lucky. It was based on a previous saved world, and I do have screenshots of the house and the sim itself does have a base copy in that original save. I'll just have to use cheats to get it back to as close to where it was if I want.

I'll see about using ErrorTrap and Overwatch in the future, which seems to be recommended. Tried installing them after the fact, so they're already there and ready to go. That and probably a secondary save or two!

    Anyway, thanks again! :)
