How can I improve my YouTube channel?

SimmerNickYTSimmerNickYT Posts: 703 Member
Hi everyone!

My YouTube channel is called "Nick Sims".
I started it two years ago, because I loved to build and thought: "Why not put them online?".

So I would like an honest opinion about my channel, because I would like it to grow.
If anyone has building feedback, I'd love to hear it!
Here is my latest video:

I love the style of your videos. Speed builds are the popular thing to do, but I dont watch them. I dont have the patience or passion for it , really. Your builds are very nice. I am an amateur builder myself and still learning. I always said that if I do you tube, I would just show off the finished product. Not everyone has to do the same type of content. Another thing, I love the slow pan of the house and features . I think you do a very good job :)

@NickSims It takes take to build a youtube channel, so dont worry that you are doing something wrong :) I think that producing content regularly and also participating in the popular building trend of the moment could help also <3

Being consistent in uploading is a real problem for me though, because my laptop is 🐸🐸🐸🐸. But I am gonna try to upload some more American styled homes, as those always do really good on The Gallery.

Hey Nick Sims; I think you've done really well!

I would definitely suggest adding some commentary as to what you're doing. A lot of the speed-builds that I enjoy watching have some commentary, although I know that could be a confidence issue.

I'd also suggest maybe doing some speed build challenges like Sim Supply does (I can't link you his channel, I assume you have heard of him but just Youtube "The Sim Supply"; e.g. 4x4 house builds that work, the dorm room challenge etc.

I reckon when you're starting out it's so important to just upload for yourself instead of the views/subs. Easier said than done, and I know it's coming from someone who hasn't started their own channel yet but that's definitely something I'm going to remind myself of. I think the biggest killjoy of starting a youtube channel would be not seeing the views/likes/subs roll in, so don't give up in terms of that.

I love your style of videos too & the pan around etc. and I think you're an excellent builder! I saw a video of the Sim Supply's & he said he google image searches different types of houses for inspo, I think that would be cool to see you do, I know I'd be doing that if I could build as well as you haha.

I have suggested this a few times elsewhere, but you could potentially get some traffic on your channel by googling other forums about start up Youtube channels (non-Sims related) and the start-up channel community seems to be really supportive so it could also give you a confidence boost.

Definitely keep uploading and don't be afraid to branch out & do other Sims videos e.g. the 7 toddler challenge.

I want to start my own channel at some point hence why I'm here posting all over this side of the community! If you want (or anyone else reading this) we could maybe work together once I get started, I don't know how that works. Or even just bounce ideas off each other, whatever. But anyways, send me an email if you'd like: ssssimyalater@gmail.com :)

    All the best! <3

Thank you so much for your feedback! It means a lot to me! I would like to do commentary to my video's, but I haven't told anyone irl that I have this YouTube channel. So I'd rather not do a voiceover in my video's. Also, I don't have a recording device that has decent quality. Maybe I'll do some build challenges. If you have your channel, maybe we can do a 'collab' like them YouTubers sometime.

the editing in your video is very good! I'd say just keep making them and keeping talking to people on forums like this and you'll do fine:) just don't stop making them videos! YouTube fan bases require consistency, if you only upload once a week or daily videos just be sure to stay consistent:)

I understand how you feel @SimmerNickYT I am in the same boat but I haven't been YouTube-ing for as long. I checked out your channel. I like some of the houses you build. Keep up the good work!

This is a really good start :) i would maybe slow it down in some of the panning, and try to acompany the music to the feel of the house, the music for the video you posted was maybe a little to high tempo for such a quant and lovly home ;) Check out Devon Bumpkin on youtube, he does amazing speed build. Also take in to consideration what other high profile simyoutubers have in commen, what makes them popular? I hope I wasn't to harsh, just some tips I think could work :D Good luck and keep up the amazing work!
