I started working on my commune lot. I sat and stared at the empty space for a while, then decided to see what existing builds I had to get me started. I rarely build from scratch. Anyway, I realized I'd never used the Stones Throw Greenhouse venue in game--just the separate items. So I plopped it down to see if it would look nice converted into a residence. I think it will.
I have a LOT more to do, but I placed the venue how I wanted it, then deleted a bunch of duplicated seed spawners. There's still space for horses and outdoor activities, and some of the living area will be underground.
I'll probably redo the patio area, but it works for a communal residence too.
I added my magic watering fountain for any plants not set under the gardening stations.
I also built a double stall for the horses.
Here's a view of the back of the "house" as of right now. I think I'll make the deck area above the horse stalls accessible for sims.
I wanted most of the windows in back to look out over the ocean beyond.
I still have building, landscaping, and furnishing to do, but I'm just going to take my time and enjoy. I think the garden center will make a good commune residence. I hope so anyway!

@TeenWolf_1999 I was never able to use the download dashboard since I started playing sims 3 in 2012. It always froze my game and I was to irked to every try after the first couple of tries. I downloaded from the store to launcher and installed that way. If the dashboard shows you the names of the items you should be able to find in the store if they have the search feature working again. It was not a few months ago. Good luck with it. It is possible it is just some of the free items that came through the years showing up and you can probably google for a list and go from that to see if you have them. Looks like they had a fun honeymoon. Congrats on the pregnancy.
Before posting a game update on Sims3 as I said I would, I wanted to quickly update you guys on my adventure with my old games.
BTW, The Sims 2 expansions I found at Goodwill(with working codes) were a Best of Business Bundle, which included H&M fashion stuff, Open for Business, and Kitchen & Bath Stuff; Apartment Life, and I got a new Double Deluxe that I will be using instead of the single Deluxe I had already had, since Double includes Celebration Stuff.
I also found a copy of the Sims1.
After going through my old stuff and unearthing the Urbz: Sims in the City, for DS and Gamecube, I realised that despite being really different games, there was a unique charm to each.
The DS focuses on occasional socialisation, a lot of needs satisfaction, and funny plot twists.
The gamecube game barely cares about need satisfaction! You only have five needs vs. The eight needs in the DS version. It focuses heavily on socialisation and reputation. If you don't have a rep you can't accomplish anything, which is fine because I've figured it out quite well as an adult. I now recognise that this game was extremely difficult for a young child despite the lack of needing to fill needs too often. The game isn't explained out well and as a child it took me months, and I loaded the game up to see a level 7 urb only! With only 70+ rep! As an adult it has taken me 3 days to get to 170 rep!
If I thought the DS game was crazy, I can't believe I didn't remember how crazy the gamecube version was!
The charm of this game is it's grittiness. As Mike Smith says, "People want spectacle!" Well...the first time my character went to bed I straight up heard someone get mugged outside, before gunshots went off! Some Sim woman I worked for taught me how to grab butts, and some other Sim/Urb-woman just likes to get nude. Also one of my other bosses is an ex-stripper.

@Rhiannon58 Yes, I put the venue down first as a community lot, then converted it to residential. No problem. I have some updated screenshots in this thread after I completed my renovations, but they're all mixed in with other stuff.
I did upload my version of a residence to Google Drive because someone asked me to share. But most of the living space is in a huge basement, and my home includes a lot of EA store, expansion, stuff pack, and custom content. I did share links to most of the CC I used though.

I sometimes change traits, but I always try to keep their personalities though. It's boring if sims all act the exact same way, you know? Most of my sims are different without being big troublemakers, but the few I created initially as "villains" can be real pains!

@Charlottesmom I really enjoyed seeing Light and L trying to have a baby. I've never tried the Death Door baby because I'd read that it wasn't a genetic offspring. Disappointing. But it was cool seeing the stage moodlets, etc. I don't think the Wishing Well children/babies are genetic offspring either. I had to tweak Mariner when he arrived. That was the first Well baby I'd done. And I've never tried the ITF genetics baby either. That can only be done in the future? Great option for a true biological baby! Morgan looks cute. Love his glasses. ...Poor Matt with 5 negative answers from the magic ball. Great expression on his face though as Light walks by after the "true love" answer!

I haven't had any big issues with it in the past, but I've found it's not always reliable, so I've only used it a few times.

My goal for tonight is to get into the story I've been setting up for ages! Originally, when I put Emad's family and the others into this commune, I had just wanted to experiment with playing a large group of active sims. Trying to be more hands-off. Then when I was in Rinn Fada with Bunter after he proposed to Caprice, I got this harebrained idea to connect the brothers' family tree again. I'd read about others doing that. So my challenge became more complicated.
Now I'm trying to accomplish all these goals at once, multitasking with a house full of mixed-up sims and their Charismatic Evil guru! And I can't be totally hands-off right now because I'm trying to get the story done while pulling in Bunter and Caprice. So I'm chasing these guys around the lot trying to stave off disaster!
@lanlyn Thanks for the lovely comments I tried to save Clyde for the sake of his kids but it was taking more of my simming time than is acceptable so I decided he simply wasn't worth it. It would have been a different matter in one of my other saves where I have populated the town myself. I would have gone back a couple of days and made sure nothing went wrong for them.

Mikezumi had a different LTW but I changed it when she started making nectar so I could easily keep tabs on the value of the nectar.
@emorrill Sims can get stuck aging up at home too. Often I will get a message that someone was stuck aging up and realize it was because they were having a baby at the time they were meant to be aging up.
The kid voices were annoying, of course!

Becky and David continue chatting and have bookworm in common. Jared actually came back to interrupt them several times. Once he wanted to make fun of Judy with Becky. (saw that in his tag) Becky yelled at him again. You rock Becky!
I saw a lot of sims congregating at The Mine so sent Judy and Jorge over there. They were both pretty much starving so had Jorge get a platter of bar food for them. While they were eating Jared shows up. I guess Becky sent him packing!
Becky and David were still chatting when I peeked on them.
Everyone is congregating at the bar to order drinks. If it stays this busy, I may have to consider adding a second bar to it. Primrose and Craven got hearts, but missed the shot.
Penelope and Martin were playing foosball and Jared joined in.
I tested the lifeguard mod and it works at the pools, but, you have to play the sim for it to work. Need the lifeguard chair on the lot too. No one needed mouth to mouth while I was testing. Sigh. David is so cute, but, he's gonna have to get a different job. Will find him a sexy job for him that doesn't need managing by me. I do have the model career mod somewhere. Hmmmm.

Interestingly, I found this post because I was wondering how the Stones Throw Garden looked. I have the set and haven't used it commercially either. Just a handful of the pieces for my small family with a small garden. But the 3rd gen heir will probably get into growing grapes for the NEXT generation to start making wine. So I'm kind of planning ahead a little bit.
I quoted your entire post because the garden is gorgeous. And I'm curious if you were able to convert this commercial space into residential without cheats. Ideally, that's what I'd like to do: plop down the entire garden center, convert it to a private residence and build the family's house around it. I think it would make a stunning estate for my 10 generational challenge family to live in.

@TeenWolf_1999 I was never able to use the download dashboard since I started playing sims 3 in 2012. It always froze my game and I was to irked to every try after the first couple of tries. I downloaded from the store to launcher and installed that way. If the dashboard shows you the names of the items you should be able to find in the store if they have the search feature working again. It was not a few months ago. Good luck with it. It is possible it is just some of the free items that came through the years showing up and you can probably google for a list and go from that to see if you have them. Looks like they had a fun honeymoon. Congrats on the pregnancy.
The Cowboy and the Mermaid
Before posting a game update on Sims3 as I said I would, I wanted to quickly update you guys on my adventure with my old games.
BTW, The Sims 2 expansions I found at Goodwill(with working codes) were a Best of Business Bundle, which included H&M fashion stuff, Open for Business, and Kitchen & Bath Stuff; Apartment Life, and I got a new Double Deluxe that I will be using instead of the single Deluxe I had already had, since Double includes Celebration Stuff.
I also found a copy of the Sims1.
After going through my old stuff and unearthing the Urbz: Sims in the City, for DS and Gamecube, I realised that despite being really different games, there was a unique charm to each.
The DS focuses on occasional socialisation, a lot of needs satisfaction, and funny plot twists.
The gamecube game barely cares about need satisfaction! You only have five needs vs. The eight needs in the DS version. It focuses heavily on socialisation and reputation. If you don't have a rep you can't accomplish anything, which is fine because I've figured it out quite well as an adult. I now recognise that this game was extremely difficult for a young child despite the lack of needing to fill needs too often. The game isn't explained out well and as a child it took me months, and I loaded the game up to see a level 7 urb only! With only 70+ rep! As an adult it has taken me 3 days to get to 170 rep!
If I thought the DS game was crazy, I can't believe I didn't remember how crazy the gamecube version was!
The charm of this game is it's grittiness. As Mike Smith says, "People want spectacle!" Well...the first time my character went to bed I straight up heard someone get mugged outside, before gunshots went off!

@bekkasan I think I looked at your friend's females and other sims, but they had CC, so I didn't download them because I was afraid they wouldn't look the same. ...I am tempted to throttle Emad! I sometimes change traits, but I always try to keep their personalities though. It's boring if sims all act the exact same way, you know? Most of my sims are different without being big troublemakers, but the few I created initially as "villains" can be real pains!

@Charlottesmom I really enjoyed seeing Light and L trying to have a baby. I've never tried the Death Door baby because I'd read that it wasn't a genetic offspring. Disappointing. But it was cool seeing the stage moodlets, etc. I don't think the Wishing Well children/babies are genetic offspring either. I had to tweak Mariner when he arrived. That was the first Well baby I'd done. And I've never tried the ITF genetics baby either. That can only be done in the future? Great option for a true biological baby! Morgan looks cute. Love his glasses. ...Poor Matt with 5 negative answers from the magic ball. Great expression on his face though as Light walks by after the "true love" answer!

I haven't had any big issues with it in the past, but I've found it's not always reliable, so I've only used it a few times.

@emorrill Sims can get stuck aging up at home too. Often I will get a message that someone was stuck aging up and realize it was because they were having a baby at the time they were meant to be aging up.

As it is, I have been typing up comments in this session for about an hour now, and I've only gotten through 2 pages. Maybe I am just a slow reader and typer though. Lol.
@plushtrap_107 So I attempted the windowed view for about 5 seconds and couldn't take it. LOL I need to be fully immersed in my sim world and have full screen. At least I gave it a shot. Thanks for the comments. I've never had a party where anyone passed out on the floor from partying too hard!! Hahaha. I want that to happen! Love the picture of Jupiter skating. Really beautiful.

@coco Thanks for the comments! Ha funny you remembered Ben's autograph session because I was thinking the same exact thing! I had him try another one just the other night and it went much better. Lol. As for the snubbing, I don't usually do that.... I always have happy families where everyone gets along, but wanted to try something different for a change. We will see if I continue, because I feel bad lol. Ian is alright, I guess. It probably looks like I like him because I always ignore him then I feel bad so I take a bunch of pictures of him to make up for it. LOL Wow you are way behind on your updates!! It all started with Zack & Blair....
I let Jorge and Judy go to Loel's lounge to play as they were getting too stressed from all the bot making and selling. lol Apparently even if you love your job it is not fun!
Several other sims showed up. Judy invited Becky for a bball hoops contest. Judy won 10-7.
David and George played pool.
Jared came in and he and Becky had a hoops contest. Becky won!
He does think that she is attractive though!
She is thinking about him, but, no hearts yet....or at all while I was watching.
They chat and laugh.....
.....and argue. Jared walks off to the snack bar area.
Becky gets hearts for Jorge. I don't blame her...he is cute!
The guys finished their game and were chatting about stars.
Becky challenged David to a hoops contest.
She beat him 9-3. Jared came back and I'm not sure if the romantic magnet of David's is for Jared or Becky!
She tells him off and turns to chat with David as if nothing had happened.
Jared stalks off!
Becky and David continue chatting and have bookworm in common. Jared actually came back to interrupt them several times. Once he wanted to make fun of Judy with Becky. (saw that in his tag) Becky yelled at him again. You rock Becky!
I saw a lot of sims congregating at The Mine so sent Judy and Jorge over there. They were both pretty much starving so had Jorge get a platter of bar food for them. While they were eating Jared shows up. I guess Becky sent him packing!
Becky and David were still chatting when I peeked on them.
Everyone is congregating at the bar to order drinks. If it stays this busy, I may have to consider adding a second bar to it. Primrose and Craven got hearts, but missed the shot.
Penelope and Martin were playing foosball and Jared joined in.
I tested the lifeguard mod and it works at the pools, but, you have to play the sim for it to work. Need the lifeguard chair on the lot too. No one needed mouth to mouth while I was testing. Sigh. David is so cute, but, he's gonna have to get a different job. Will find him a sexy job for him that doesn't need managing by me. I do have the model career mod somewhere. Hmmmm.

@bekkasan -It's not just my issue because others have gotten it and there's a martial arts one which requires removal of martial arts equipment from lots globally to fix that.I do like to take the time to get a family settled in before others move in.That is going to happen as they get ready to start trying for babies.

@MKSizzle -I remeber when I first tried windowed mode and it lasted for a few seconds before I relaized I could get UI pictures and it was easier to get into the game without having it fail to fully transition into the game.I stopped playing full screen after that and switched TS2 to windowed mode on this computer with UC.
