Please let me tell you I have a Windows 10 Dell Inspiron. Ever since the 31 July patch, it seems if I leave the game for my desktop I have to repair the game to restore sound. What the what happened?

Hello
Try deleting the cache files.
https://sims4.crinrict.com/en/2014/09/delete-cache-files/
Then move the options or options.ini file to your desktop.
Start the game, reset your settings in game options, and see if the renains,
