Will fiddling with sim's character file in SimPE, like setting their age/skills/talents, etc cause a breakdown?

Go into Documents>EA Games>Ultimate Collection>Neighborhoods and back up the neighborhoods you want to keep to something. (Your desktop, a large jump drive, etc.

For sims - backing them up is a longer process involving SimPE and Bodyshop. Note that you can't skip repackaging in body shop for totally safe backups. http://modthesims.info/t/94489

    Thank you

    I have a question.

So I'm playing a custom hood. I created a "casino"/games/bowling lot, and one of my families purchased it as a business. It has a couple of bars there. I sent the owner to the lot, and got her to tend the bar... and she now has a memory of having met herself. After doing a bit of research, this has happened before to various people.
It's not going to cause any kind of hood corruption or anything, is it? I'm certain I've not done of the hood-corrupting actions with this current custom hood.

No. These things are set via in-game actions as well, and they (along with recessive genetics) are safe to fiddle with in SimPE if you have backed up in case you cause a problem that you can't quickly resolve. They can also be set via the sim blender if you're afraid of SimPE, but you should at least download SimPE so you can use it to look at things that you can't see in the game, even if you never change anything. :) Skills, age, and interests should never cause corruption when messing with them.

This is the well-known "Met Self" glitch, which can be corrupting because it creates an invalid relationship. You will want Boiling Oil's "no self memories" or any other memory modifying patch that prevents the formation of these memories (MATY's Dramafix is the one I use but it has additional changes to a few other things.) To resolve the problem you have already created, you will need to remove the memory and unset the sim's "have met" relationship with themself... which will require simPE. Backup the neighborhood (you can always try again,) and go through that sim's relationship files until you see a "Casino Owner to Casino Owner." You will need to follow the "relationships" part of this tutorial on safe sim data deletion. To remove the relationship. The memory itself can be removed via batbox (remove junk memories- in game) or simPE.

Lastly - can you tell me if you're running UC or discs, and if discs, which ones? Since I use a combination mod I've never checked if Met Self is patched properly in the UC, and if it isn't I need to start beating my drum about installing a mod in my advice threads.

I thought I may have to do something like that. I'm a total noob when it comes to mods, and I'm terrified of doing something wrong, so I might just delete the whole hood and start afresh. It's not that much of an loss to me anyway. I don't have WinRAR so I can't extract zip files anyway. I'll just have to be super careful and not install a bar in an owned casino-type lot :D :D :D

This mod you just drop in your downloads and keep going.

Also, if you chose to play without: do not ever send your sim to "be bartender" or "be barista" since the met self glitch predates OFB and is due to random fudgery with "meeting" the bartender or barista if you interact with the object.

Just popping in for another quick question, is it normal for hoodchecker to find your player sims having "invalid relationship with self" commonly? It seems every time i use the checker to, well, check, most of my player sims have developed one. They've never gotten a "met self" memory though, so it's not an issue, right?

This is definitely common in EA neighborhoods and, iirc, the hood checker should remove these safely if you have the hack to suppress met self memories. They're not as common in neighborhoods you make from scratch, but apparently still happen. For more information, here's the help thread.

But it's harmless, yeah? Doesn't seem like it's making much issue... Think i should remove them frequently just as safety, though?

So i sent the sim home, saved, and exited the game, and ran the hoodchecker. (Which i've done only a day before, and had it remove any invalid anythings that it found.) It didn't find any new invalid threads, which i thought weird, so i went ahead and CTRL+F'd through the entire log of valid threads, and i found the following.

Just copy paste, and replace the DOT with an actual dot (.) and remove the space right before the .jpg and .png.

I can't post links directly due to my lack of points.

Okay, the therapist thing does have me worried. I would not initially have worried about the "met therapist" line (in case it does show up, a la the social bunny) but networking with him? Eeek. My best guess is that this is working similarly to the Social Bunny Friend Bug, which should be neighborhood specific.

I would still check through all other neighborhoods you have and want to keep with the hood checker, as this is an object NPC and changes to it risk your other neighborhood, and extract sims that you want from this version of Strangetown.

If you want to run a vanilla strangetown again, try a clean template... but if this is indeed a bug where the therapist or social bunny randomly gets the ability to actually retain relationship info with one specific sim, there are a few things that you can try if you're willing to experiment with the neighborhood after backing up everything else.

    1) The Sim Blender+summon shrub: Make a sim. Summon Bella Goth and move her in. Use the sim blender to set her aspiration to completely drained. Use the Sim Blender's relationships panel to remove Have Met. This SHOULD erase friend data and lifetime and daily relationship values from Bella: I'm not 100% on what it does to the therapist so if you're serious about saving the neighborhood back a copy up somewhere in case this kersplodes. Also a good idea? Back up your downloads folder, and have your reinstall method on hand. Run the hood checker and see if the line about Bella's relationship to the Therapist is still there. If it isn't, play forward with extreme caution.

This is theoretically easier for the therapist than for the social bunnies because HE doesn't have at least three iterations. With the bunny it's possible to do this a dozen times without finding the right rabbit.

    2) SimPE: go into strangetown, open Bella's relationships panel, and look for one that links her to the therapist. Remove it. Do the same for any relationships the therapist has, and then track down the other sims that he has relationships with (if any) and remove their relationship to him. When I find a tutorial that still has pictures I'll let you know. I usually use the Sim Blender to fix relationships in game due to it being safer and easier to check if I did it right. However, the hood checker should have the right GUID of the relationship in question, so that does narrow things down. (Most likely it found relationship of Bella to Therapist, and not the reverse, since there is a unidirectional version of each relationship.)

I can't guarantee that these will work, due to the Therapist being a game object, BUT if you're willing to play for a bit after these knowing that the neighborhood may be borked and running the hood checker every time? You might be able to salvage the neighborhood, or at least determine if the game itself has the problem or if it's just Strangetown. I also haven't had this precise problem before.

Note that some mods (Including at least one mod that adds fertility to sims based on menstrual periods) modify object NPC's by mistake and may exacerbate issues like this, so hunt through your mods folder and see what's in there. My semi-educated guess is that the reason the Social Bunny and Therapist have issues that are different from other NPC's like crumplebutt and the Unsavory Charlatan is because they can technically appear multiple times on the same lot, i.e. if multiple sims are in social or aspiration failure. (And because the bunny has between 3 and total number of sims allowable on one lot iterations... Cripes, Maxis!)

Decline the offer to network. No relationship will be created if you do, and it should be safe. According to the wiki NPC's and townies do not have networking bonuses amongst themselves, so Bella should not have spread this relationship to others. (It isn't initialized until a phone call is made...)

Update: I just had a custom townie that I created safely offer to let one of my sims meet baby new year. I don't even use the new years party...
Tutorial on setting your object NPC's to read only is coming soon.

Will this cause corruption. A couple of years ago in one of my neighbourhoods an urn got broken by a teenager and I saved without realizing so I moved it to a community graveyard. The deceased sim still shows up to be resurrected on the grim reaper phone.

Yes broken urns and tombstones can cause corruption. The sim data that it belonged to gets shredded. You may be able to play the hood for quite a while without signs of the corruption though. When it shows up is anyones guess. This mod can try to stop that for the future. It won't do anything for already broken ones though.

Moving an urn to a graveyard can cause problems, but right now it seems like your game should be safe for a little while at least. (Breaking an urn also causes problems, and of course deleting it is the worst thing you could do.) Absolutely do not resurrect the sim. :)

The second post mentions to download "creaturefixes" and delete the creatures from expansions you don't have, but how exactly do you go about it? I don't have Apartment Life so I don't have witches, but I have vampires and werewolves. Do I just open up the mod's file in SimPe and remove any references to witches?

Hi, have accidentally saved and exited a lot with a ghost active. Have gone back into the lot and the gravestone is still there. Would this have caused corruption?

Naw you should be just fine. As long as the gravestone or urn is still on the lot and not destroyed you are fine. :)

Looking forward to the BoolProp part of the tutorial coming up - I just use the cheat to drag needs, skill bars, assign careers through the newspaper, and edit relationships, so I'm hoping that's ok. (I've learned from my completely corrupted Sims 2 game of years past, which was heartbreaking when sub-neighbourhoods and Sims all started disappearing, so I don't do anything crazy with it anymore!)

Today I played the tutorial for the fun of it and noticed in the very first tutorial, the sim Joe has a memory of being potty trained by someone who I assume is his mother. Problem is, he has no friends or any family relatives in his family tree.

I guess Maxis deleted his mom and the tutorial neighborhood is thus corrupted?
The tutorial was made back in 2004 so it probably really is corrupted :#

I was playing today and a Sim who was visiting for a birthday party got the squiggly lines in her thought bubble instead of the footsteps with the X over them when she couldn't move. I've been playing as safe as I can and have no idea what might have caused this. Any tips for what to do to find out what's gone wrong? :grimace: I'm playing the Super Collection on a Mac. The only CC or mod I have is for playable Sims gaining skill points on Community lots. (I didn't download any special Mac version of it, so idk if that is the problem?)

ETA: I found a link to this mod, but I don't know how to make it work on a Mac. Does anyone have any experience of this? There's no SimPE on a Mac either. http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=456523

That mod requires the same framework that makes SimPE not able to run on Macs.

I would first of all not panic over one symptom of corruption as things other than neighborhood corruption can cause a variety of corruption symptoms as well. Especially if you know you haven't done anything that causes corruption.

Could some random item that didn't delete itself properly, which is nothing that would corrupt the neighborhood.

There are a few weird things happening in my neigborhood.

    1. The Beaker household, every morning the butler calls the fire department like 10 times after eachother, but there is no fire.

    2. I moved the Capp household with the gravestones in their inventory and put the graves on their new plot. But now a copy of all the gravestones are on the sidewalk again. So I have 2 of everything but I'm scared to delete them (the extra gravestones).

    3. One gravestone, I think Contessa Capp, is completely missing and also in the family tree. It's just an empty picture.

    4. The Curious household bring coworkings from their science career, but it's either the 🐸🐸🐸🐸 or the butler. And sometimes the butler stays and starts making breakfast since it's a nightjob (that poor man), sometimes he leaves.

Are these signs of neigborhood curruption?
English is not my first language so sorry if I make any mistakes!

OK, the only other weird thing I've had was several weeks ago, when my Sim called in sick to work, a cat called Baxter (one of the ones in the adoption pool, though I can't remember whether he now lives in a family somewhere) answered as his boss. :grimace:

Do you think I should take out the one mod I have? I don't think it's a Mac-specific mod, I hadn't realised that TS2 mods don't work for both by default like they do in TS4.
