Be a troll. Trolling is deliberately posting sarcastic, off topic, or rude things to start a fight.

With this rule:
Be a troll. Trolling is deliberately posting sarcastic, off topic, or rude things to start a fight.

There is scope for blurring of what is a rude comment and someone's sense of humour.

I am just saying that typed words can be misinterpreted as rude or whatever when they are more a sense of humour thing.

If no fight takes place in a thread or between parties, then how can it be determined that something said was rude to someone else?

It's the intent on the part of the one posting that is the important part ("deliberately" attempting to elicit an unhappy or fight response), not necessarily the effect which as you point out can be an accidental misunderstanding or the would-be troll could simply be ineffective. Those who manage forums successfully develop skills in interpreting poster intent and it's really more art than science. That's why we have experienced human beings as moderators and not robots. :)

Hopefully it's not against the rules to ask this, but how would you prefer such to be stated otherwise, if you were appointed Ruling Monarch of a forum?

"do not post comments unrelated to the subject of the topic with the intent of seeking a fight" but in the idea, "don't be a troll" is shorter"

I believe EA Mage already asked you to PM her if you have any questions about the forum rules instead of posting one thread after another on the forum rules. Internet Trolling or C-yber-Bulling should be self explanatory. If you don't understand those terms , google can be your friend

    I'm not questioning the rule.

I am more raising the fact that what is written by one person can be misinterpreted by someone else.

It's not just about moderation, it is also about what other people on the forum will jab away at the report button to raise something that they deem to be something that it is not.

However, there was a time on the forums when people were joining to troll (post pornagraphic material, create actual hate threads, etc) - ie they did it on purpose. Other forum users used to mock each other with their memes and animated GIFs, etc - it was a common thing on the forum that got out of control, etc, etc.

However, if none of those things are going on anymore, then attention is drawn on anyone who is a considerable level below those aformentioned offenders.

Having a sense of humour can get you into the same trouble as a blatant troll who posts 🐸🐸🐸🐸.

I'm just saying it - I am not arguing it or trolling it.

That is up to EA staff to determine and investigate if someone is trolling, posing offensive things to harm others, or someone made a bad joke that offended someone etc. The questions your asking go into EA staff Moderation which we are not supposed to discuss.

If your not sure about what the person is doing and there is that fine line between joke or offensive, hit the flag button on the post, There is a report that says "Other" . Check off other and then give EA an explanation why you think something is offensive. EA will investigate and determine if someone is breaking the forum rules.

But how does the other person defend themself?

I am talking about the forum users who get reported.

The various cliques and clans of the Simming world do not report their own. People don't report their friends, but they will report someone else for the same thing.

It is just food for thought - a discussion.

    I am just mentioning it.

If someone reports you and EA finds you have done something wrong, they will contact you privately. That is to be discussed privately between the person who may have violated and EA staff. Again you are going into moderation which can not be discussed in the forum. EA investigates the reports and determines whether a report is false or misunderstood. If you have moderation questions, I suggest discussing this issue with EA staff privately in a PM.

@plopppo2 Drop it. I fundamentally agree with you. But we can’t discuss this here.

    Closed the thread.

As I have said on multiple occasions - if anyone has a questions on how we moderate the forums you can send me or any of the moderators a PM.
This thread is a discussion on moderation and that is against the Forum Rules.

    Thanks,
    -Mage
