  Custom music? I'm not sure. I highly doubt that would ever be the case but I'm open for being proven wrong.

  I get you can add music, but I want to watch a movie and play the sims....so I don't need the pesky backgroud music. Just the sound effects and stuff....
  
  Pretty sure I could do this in the past sims.
  
  Maybe I am just missing something?

  Every Sims games have music in the background and you would be able to disable it in setings.

  There's no background music on gameplay, but there's one if you joined a party or get to career lot. You can also hear the sims 4 music on the radio or dj booth
