Are counter top surfaces apart of the object mesh?

Hello there,
I'm a newb to modding. I've made a few tattoos and recolors of some base game objects but, I've been working on re-texturing the vintage counters and I do not see the counter top's surfaces in any of the textures I've exported. So is the counter top a surface a non-editable texture or is it apart of the mesh? I really don't want to edit the mesh I just want to change the texture of it's surface.
Any ideas?

From my work with counters, the textures are all included when creating a clone, including the tops. Note that some of them share textures between other variants. The way that I 'counter' that (pun intended) is to clone all swatches, make a new swatch from one that shares a texture, then make a new swatch from the newly created swatch, and then delete the original and the first clone. That way, each cloned clone will have a unique texture call. I hope that this helps!
