I just finished a clean reinstall of TS3 so I could go back to patch 1.67 (I found 1.69 caused general instability and lag over time, but others may have a different experience) and found myself nostalgic as I reinstalled the store, so I thought I'd drop in.

I'm thinking maybe it's time for me to check out the pattern section to turn some clothes into Christmas clothing (like pajamas!)
I have sometimes gone nuts downloading exchange patterns for my game. I especially love patterns that are entirely recolorable in every single layer including the background.
Once you own a lot of store, sometimes you start to have problems with files disappearing. Sometimes a pattern from exchange will disappear from my download's file -- then in game my sim might have something substituted, or the sim will become invisible.
If you already do Ciane's method of downloading the store files, another safeguard so exchange patterns don't go missing is to convert your favorite downloaded patterns into packages and drop them into your Mods/packages/<patterns by artist>/ folder.
Do it yourselfers: Exchange patterns that have recolorable layers (my favorite), take a bit of hand coding to get them to show up as packages.
Now below, no need to convert these... already done!
100% recolorable, seamless Christmas patterns you can get for free. Switch up the colors anyway you like, monochromatic or loud.
No need to convert anything, just drop them into your mods folder. If you collect other patterns as packages, I advise labeling your package folders by artist. Makes it easier for file management.

I fiiiiiiiinally have a set coming up on the DD! Full Hewnsman Set is scheduled to make an appearance at just after 10AM my time... I just woke up at 6 (PM), so I will hopefully still be awake; if not, then alarm-setting it is!
Finally heard back from the physiotherapist's office, and I'm good to go again starting on Thursday! My ankle is still pretty swollen but, now that most of the metal is out, there are days when my leg actually resembles a leg.

You can download them from Simlicious's website instead, where they will have the package and sim3pack in the download (you would just discard the packages from the zip file) so you can install them through the launcher. This will have the possible problem of the game forgetting them, as previously mentioned by @SemaviLady. The initial link provided only has the package files, which go into a mod folder. That said, a mod framework is easy to set up and makes it much easier to remove content you don't like or don't want (just make sure it isn't in any of your saves first).

On Patterns:
If you install patterns via the launcher as Sims3Packs, as @calents explains, you do not need to use a mods folder.
Here's another link for grabbing the Sims3Packs for Patterns at Simlicious: https://www.simlicious.com/sims-3-downloads/patterns/
Choose the files for Sims3Packs from the download menu.
Installing as Sims3Packs via the launcher makes it hard to know at a glance which files are in which EBC install of the DDCache folder, unless you keep spreadsheets of all the EBCs (I'm far too lazy).
So if you prefer to NOT use the mod set up, each set of patterns and has to be installed through the launcher. They are beautiful and fun to use either way.
Back to packages... package files make it possible to install 397 patterns in one 'swell foop' -- just by dropping the file into the folder, no launcher needed. So if you want to give it a try, setting up the Mods folders is very simple but wordy and harder to explain.
The set up instructions above include tips to install a few basic mods, one of which the purpose is just to check to be sure that you have installed the folders correctly. The Sims 3 spinning green diamond Plumb bob intro will be skipped if it's working correctly.
For more patterns that are in package format, Ktarian has manually converted some of her favorite Exchange patterns. She has permission by the authors to offer them as package files. Check it out, she's got quite collection, at least 7 pages on Simbler. https://ktarsims.tumblr.com/tagged/sims3+patterns
These converted Exchange files are not all seamless, and not all of them are completely recolorable, but they are package files that can be dropped into Mod folders. Installed this way it's easy to delete the ones you decide not to keep.
I highly recommend naming subfolders by author or type of theme.

Well, I managed to get my first DD freebie! Yey!!! Yes, it's possible to have played TS3 in 2012 and not get your first DD prize til 2017 if you take a 5 year hiatus from Sims and come back not having a clue. So I took advantage of the Killer Classics deal! I owned most of it and waited til the DD and got the set free! Yippie! Now I finally know what the stalking is all about. All it takes, for us 'newbies' is reading all about it on this thread and trying to absorb it all. Then when you think you may have gotten the hang of it, you find the cascades thread and realize you've barely scratched the surface! Sometimes I think the real game is HERE because I can get so involved in watching these deals that I forget to pop in my game! Haha! But I just want to thank you all for all the amazing information and the fun. I think. I'm not sure what I've gotten myself into, but thanks, I think.
ps... yes, I already took advantage of the Animals Abound deal, so I guess Killer Classics is my second deal, but who's counting!
So here's the deal. EA couldn't be much help since it was bought on Amazon. Which was fine. I was prepared for that. So I contacted Amazon. The person helping me almost crushed my dreams. She first said that games can not be returned or refunded then said she made an exception and I should be credited within 24 hours. I'm so happy!!!

I've been a Prime member for years and have always been pleased with the high level of customer service I've received from Amazon, but REALLY didn't expect they would refund a software purchase. ugh, i hate myself right now. but i'm pretty sure this is the only place i can post without people judging me for being a complete dum-dum.
short version: i missed my set that i waited months for. now i have to wait a whole other rotation. sigh.
long version: i didn't make it to 10 am because i was falling asleep in my chair. so i went to bed and set an alarm so i'd wake up, but it never went off.
i woke up on my own and panicked because i missed it by minutes. so i checked to make sure i my volume was on and i hadn't set my alarm for 10pm or something ridiculous... turns out i hadn't: the alarm was set for the right time and my sound was on. it just didn't go off.
so i did the first thing i could think of and completed charmingly simple kitchen for 55 sp to see if it would make a significant dent in my cys, but it didn't. so now i have to wait for 327 because i am a super plum.
you had one job, von. and you failed spectacularly. nice one.
@funkeeferret I totally get the whole "game instead of the game" vibe. I know for about a year I was the same way. My computer was plums for running the game, so it really was more fun just chasing the deals and farming points. For me the timing worked out perfectly because I had just about everything about the time I got my new computer.
@meerkattime, I would have deal alarms schedules MONTHS in advance! So, no, it isn't weird. And, yes, it was horrible when it either didn't work or I simply messed up. The AM/PM thing was the culprit often enough.

It unexpectedly came with a code, printed on the glossy paper that comes with a retail package. I contacted the seller and he said he forgot it was in there and he didn't think it was used. I passed it on to a friend to try on Origin, and it worked! So I got to gift someone IP for about $4 US. I know EA is clamping down on pirated codes, but I figured this was clearly EA published, so either it had been used or hadn't. My friend figures if they take it back, then at least she had it for a while.

327 comes up on my husband's birthday though, so it'll be easy to remember. and it's not in the middle of the day this time, so i should actually be able to stay up for it without worrying about setting an alarm. at least i own enough of the set that i don't have to wait another 3 months for 903 again. still, i feel like a grade-a numbskull right now.

Yeah, since it was a refund on the purchase from Amazon, and not a cancellation of the code, it should totally be fine. Origin had no clue what went on. LOL, Origin has no clue; that sounds about normal.

Once you own a lot of store, sometimes you start to have problems with files disappearing. Sometimes a pattern from exchange will disappear from my download's file -- then in game my sim might have something substituted, or the sim will become invisible.
If you already do Ciane's method of downloading the store files, another safeguard so exchange patterns don't go missing is to convert your favorite downloaded patterns into packages and drop them into your Mods/packages/<patterns by artist>/ folder.
Do it yourselfers: Exchange patterns that have recolorable layers (my favorite), take a bit of hand coding to get them to show up as packages.

I don't have a mods folder (since I don't use mods); in that case, where would I put them or would I even be able to download them? Are they in your studio too?
I fiiiiiiiinally have a set coming up on the DD! Full Hewnsman Set is scheduled to make an appearance at just after 10AM my time... I just woke up at 6 (PM), so I will hopefully still be awake; if not, then alarm-setting it is!
Finally heard back from the physiotherapist's office, and I'm good to go again starting on Thursday! My ankle is still pretty swollen but, now that most of the metal is out, there are days when my leg actually resembles a leg.

They like playing in the Coke boxes, but Boopie is so fat that he usually gets stuck and drags the box around like a little snail shell.
You can download them from Simlicious's website instead, where they will have the package and sim3pack in the download (you would just discard the packages from the zip file) so you can install them through the launcher. This will have the possible problem of the game forgetting them, as previously mentioned by @SemaviLady. The initial link provided only has the package files, which go into a mod folder. That said, a mod framework is easy to set up and makes it much easier to remove content you don't like or don't want (just make sure it isn't in any of your saves first).
On Patterns:
If you install patterns via the launcher as Sims3Packs, as @calents explains, you do not need to use a mods folder.

Choose the files for Sims3Packs from the download menu.
Installing as Sims3Packs via the launcher makes it hard to know at a glance which files are in which EBC install of the DDCache folder, unless you keep spreadsheets of all the EBCs (I'm far too lazy).
So if you prefer to NOT use the mod set up, each set of patterns and has to be installed through the launcher. They are beautiful and fun to use either way.
Back to packages... package files make it possible to install 397 patterns in one 'swell foop' -- just by dropping the file into the folder, no launcher needed. So if you want to give it a try, setting up the Mods folders is very simple but wordy and harder to explain.

The set up instructions above include tips to install a few basic mods, one of which the purpose is just to check to be sure that you have installed the folders correctly. The Sims 3 spinning green diamond Plumb bob intro will be skipped if it's working correctly.
For more patterns that are in package format, Ktarian has manually converted some of her favorite Exchange patterns. She has permission by the authors to offer them as package files. Check it out, she's got quite collection, at least 7 pages on Simbler.

These converted Exchange files are not all seamless, and not all of them are completely recolorable, but they are package files that can be dropped into Mod folders. Installed this way it's easy to delete the ones you decide not to keep.
I highly recommend naming subfolders by author or type of theme.

I didn't expect it at all. I'm surprised. My boyfriend kept telling me to contact them even though I was sure they couldn't do much. When I got the refund he was like "I told you so!" I'm over here like "oh hush!!" Lol!

short version: i missed my set that i waited months for. now i have to wait a whole other rotation. sigh.
long version: i didn't make it to 10 am because i was falling asleep in my chair. so i went to bed and set an alarm so i'd wake up, but it never went off.
i woke up on my own and panicked because i missed it by minutes. so i checked to make sure i my volume was on and i hadn't set my alarm for 10pm or something ridiculous... turns out i hadn't: the alarm was set for the right time and my sound was on. it just didn't go off.
so i did the first thing i could think of and completed charmingly simple kitchen for 55 sp to see if it would make a significant dent in my cys, but it didn't. so now i have to wait for 327 because i am a super plum.

@meerkattime, I would have deal alarms schedules MONTHS in advance! So, no, it isn't weird. And, yes, it was horrible when it either didn't work or I simply messed up. The AM/PM thing was the culprit often enough.
@JennaIsGhost I had purchased an install disc from eBay for Island Paradise a couple months back to replace my scratched one. It unexpectedly came with a code, printed on the glossy paper that comes with a retail package. I contacted the seller and he said he forgot it was in there and he didn't think it was used. I passed it on to a friend to try on Origin, and it worked! So I got to gift someone IP for about $4 US. I know EA is clamping down on pirated codes, but I figured this was clearly EA published, so either it had been used or hadn't. My friend figures if they take it back, then at least she had it for a while.
