The Long Haul Reading Circle

I know a lot of them have busy schedules and barely have enough time to work on their own stories! @lilypadmeulin could you give us a few details about your legacy so they all can determine whether or not they can take it on? How many chapters do you have so far? Would you mind if we started reading at the current generation instead of catching up? Sorry for the pending answer.
So, members of this reading circle, would you mind another member joining and do you have the capacity to start reading another story?

@ny275, I wouldn't mind taking on another member. After all, you all were kind enough to let me in at Generation 3. I would like to see some of lilypadmeulin's story, though, before there's a final decision.

(Also for the moment the Fitzgeralds are sorta on an unofficial hiatus until my schedule decides to be considerably less ape-plum loco. Just so we're clear on that)

My question is, @lilypadmeulin, How many generations will you do? I think a decent amount of us are stopping at 10. I saw in the rules that the legacy can repeat for as long as you like after the 12 signs are cleared, will you be doing that? Or will you be stopping after 12?
Also, I saw you @MVWdeZT! Thanks for catching up with Markus and Natasha, they're my favorite generation yet! I certainly agree with you and @ny275 that Markus seems bound for trouble...

@allysimbuilds Well, I'll probably aim to clear all twelve signs! But if I end up doing more than that, then I'll repeat the cycle, but it depends. However, I'll probably stop updating the blog after twelve.
Daughters of Hesperia
I agree! Having the legacy only at 5 chapters though is helpful and shouldn't be too hard to catch up on. I'm totally fine with it.
@lilypadmeulin. I've enjoyed what I've read of your Zodiac legacy. J makes beautiful children.
@allysimbuilds @PurplishSimEater and @MVWdeZT I appreciate you three taking the time to share your thoughts as well!
Okay, it looks like majority of the people are okay with you joining @lilypadmeulin so I have added a spot for you! Welcome!
Since we're welcoming new members we just welcomed a new member, I'd like to take this time to think about what we do in this circle. I like to keep it laid back (e.g. no obligatory discussions/ schedules) because I know so many of us are super busy. That being said, we can still be casual and have topics of conversation or something. What would you guys like to see?
I do like the random questions we pose to each other sometimes. Maybe that is enough!

Welcome @lilypadmeulin!
I always love the random questions, it is always nice to be able to share ideas and get everyone's input.
It has been super, super helpful for me to just have a space where I can come and ask any random question - especially with the MCC stuff.
IMO- I couldn't ask for a better reading circle with better members!!

Just popping in to say Hi! I have nearly finished my dissertation and will be back shortly!
I love the fact that we keep things causal, it helps a lot. Perhaps we could have a question of the week type thing? Then it still keeps it casual but it can relate to the legacy writing process? Just an idea!!
I've updated the blog btw

I like the idea of having questions that someone poses and everyone can answer about their own story. We could also choose to highlight one story, and everyone asks questions to that one writer. Kinda like the first thing in Reverse if that makes sense.
I also love the idea of just having a question of the week thing, as stated above. That might work better for everyone's busy schedules.
Also, welcome @lilypadmeulin! When I'm back at my computer later today, I will start your story.
Most of us are doing legacies in which traits have to be randomized. How does that affect your planning for each generation? Do you try to match traits with skills and jobs?
Since I've spaced out births over 10 generations, I can roll once the spouse is chosen as I'll know the trait sets I'll be working with. This allows me a preview of every child's traits and aspirations, so I can get a baseline picture of what to expect from each Sim and start filling in a bit of a personality.
However, since my play style is also Sim-directed, I'm going to have to wait and see what direction each kids takes me with autonomous interactions and choices. That way, I can flesh out their personality.
For example, Sim Andrew might be a Genius, an Art Lover, and a Kleptomaniac with the Mansion Baron Aspiration, so I'd start with plans to make him part of the Painter or Art Critic career who becomes an art thief. However, Andrew also likes to autonomously work out and spend time with his family (having high relationships with all of them) so I could take this direction to make him feel conflicted about stealing to support his family and have the workouts become an outlet for the stress in his life.
As for job-matching in Aspirations: I try to do it more based on personality and autonomous behavior unless their aspiration requires a certain career (Public Enemy to Criminal, for example). Going back to my example of Andrew, if he autonomously chose to be more social, I'd go the Art Critic route, whereas if he were more introverted then I'd go the Painter route.

@MVWdeZT I actually don't plan anything, lol! I'm literally "flying by the seat of my pants." Everything in my legacy is sim and generator led. I generate all traits at once plus aspiration, per child, to know what kind of a personality they have for writing. I use their aspiration and traits to develop hobbies and such (like athletic sims do a lot of working out). I hope this answers your question. I just let everything up to random chance and then do my best to string it all together for the story. If sims suddenly want to cheat on their spouse (ie gen 4, Cooper) then I find a way to have it make sense.

I have an update for everyone: Natasha Goes to College (greatly inspired by jbest's character's going to San Myshuno for schooling...monkey see, monkey do, you know? lol) I'm finding myself losing steam, and I have a huge desire to take time off before generation 5. Anyone else feeling that way about their saves? Or if you have, how did you get through it? Just pushing through? OR, did you take the break and feel/write better for it?

Ahh I'm happy I gave you some inspo!!! And yes I am feeling exactly the same way I am even having trouble completing G4. I am taking a little break and starting up a new build newcrest legacy in the meantime... but I'll still try and update like once a week if I am feeling it... we'll see lol
