I keep asking the same question about a story-idea in mutplie places and no one has bothered to give me an answer.. and i'm getting ticket off..since I probably wouldn't be getting an answer till midnight from Cathytea at the right it's going and I be asking this since like 1-2pm.

I'm so busy! Ahhh! And you're right--I usually answer you right before I go to bed, which is around midnight or later your time.

    My work has been nuts.

But it also seems like you sort of answered your question, right? Which is that the girls would cover their heads for penance? And no one religion owns copyright on head-coverings, so I think it is fine. Just be respectful, which you always are.

Sorry I was so busy at work that I didn't answer. :)

@MadameLee I know how it feels when it seems like no one is responding to your posts, and you wonder if anyone has noticed. There's also a whole ton of things on the forums, and I'm sure no one is intentionally trying to overlook you, but I can't always respond to everyone about everything. Perhaps people haven't seen your questions yet, or don't know how to respond. I would say though be patient. It's summertime and things are busy for a lot of people. Not everyone has access to the forums on every device, and not everyone checks frequently. Also I'd check to see if you're posting your question in the right places... like if it's in the correct category so that it doesn't get lost in the shuffle. Give people some grace and time. I try and wait a day or two before re-posting just to give everyone time to see it, and if I don't get a response, then I'll post again. I would imagine you will get your response. :)

I only posted it on threads (feedback, the Fringe thread) in this section since I know if I asked in GD area I would get heckled for posting in "the wrong place" like I used too with pictures and stuff. I finally got an answer from a FB simmer..and I will get around midnight an answer from Cathytea. Well I'm waiting I could look up something which I kneed to know for my story..

Yep, I'm back. I feel like I have no one I can discuss this with without sounding like I'm complaining so I thought I'd just get it out here so hopefully I can move on and stop obsessing over it...

I love legacy play. If you look at the challenges I've done you'll find that most of them are in some form legacies. Because I hate not knowing how the kids will turn out. Or if it's something like the Room challenge I want to see that they get their happily ever after. As much as I try to say that views don't matter to me in a way they do. Because I like to know someone else is loving my families too. Not that they could love them as much as I do but still. Anyway, I've found that after the first few generations interest starts to disappear. Which in turn makes me feel like I must be doing something wrong. Why else would everyone stop reading?

The only legacy-type story that I've had get past the fourth generation was my Whim challenge. And even that one I'd stopped playing for quite awhile before picking it back up to finish of the third and start the fourth generation. Halfway through the fifth generation, it seemed like only a couple people were still reading it. I was really really excited about them having triplets and when the chapter finally published there wasn't much of a response. Disappointed, I quit playing. I've said before on here that I build up in my mind the excitement I have for certain things and when nobody else seems excited I'm crushed.

The point is, I've finally got to the part in my current legacy that I was really excited about. I've been dying for these chapters to publish because finally everyone gets to see the kids as I see them and hopefully love them as I do. And it seems that everyone has lost interest. I went through all of the chapters that got lots of views and the chapters that didn't get many and I really can't see any rhyme or reason to it. There's no pattern for them. Nothing that really explains what I've done other than the fact that I'm once again getting further into the legacy as I'm ending the 3rd generation soon.

So here I am, I was soooooo excited about the spin-off story that will be played in tandem with the legacy. And I'm losing interest before those chapters are even published. I get annoyed with people always talking about subs and views and all of that on Twitter and here I am doing the same thing. I can understand people losing interest when it's obvious I'm not enjoying a story anymore. But these chapters that have published recently I was so excited about. I guess I just need to either stop playing legacy style or try to find a way not to pay attention to whether anyone reads the chapters. I feel like a big baby now that I re-read all of this. Sorry.

Hi @Rainydayz179 please don't stop playing legacy-style or your story! So, now that I said that, I want to give you my take on this, because you've asked and because I read your story with great pleasure.

You're in my reader and I read every chapter that you publish, but I'm also really busy with university and writing term papers and real life, so I don't get to read it right away, even though I notice it a lot of times. I can totally understand that you get discouraged when nobody seems to be as excited as you are. I promise that I am, but there's a factor that you might want to consider. I hope that this doesn't come off as rude and I really don't mean it, because I really like your story and I like the personality that I see through your commentary and humour. I mean this in the best way possible.
You are posting super fast! Generally, daily updates are a good thing and make me excited, but your chapters are each a decent length and take some time to read and understand. Not because you write badly or anything, but because you have a big family with a big cast. Please keep in mind that you know every single Sim in your household and their relationships, but your reader forget them! I have to keep up with all the names and get into the posts and when I'm done, there's already another post waiting. For me personally, with very limited free time, it's really overwhelming to keep up with the story that moves in such a fast pace. I love it very much, but I sometimes don't get to read a chapter until a few days later.
I have anxiety issues with online messaging and making my presence known, so I feel really bad about commenting on a chapter that I've read while you're already five chapters ahead and I don't want to bother you for some reason. That's probably on me.
I don't think that you're doing anything badly or that your story isn't interesting enough, even though I've realized that legacy style play can get repetitive very fast. But you are always pursuing something else and you add frequent unique things into your story, like Nova's dating game for example. It's a great read!
What I'm basically trying to say is that it's kind of hard to keep up with the story because it is moving so fast. I also don't want to feel like I'm intruding into the legacy collab and stuff (again, anxious) and yeah ... I feel really bad that I didn't comment or like a lot of things. Please don't give up because you don't get enough views and likes and such. Maybe give people some time to catch up? I can guarantee you that I enjoy your story and I'm excited about all the things that are happening!

Gosh, I hope I didn't come off as rude or mean ... It's just my personal opinion that might differ from everyone else's. It would be sad if the story stops, because I gain so much inspiration and joy from it!

@Asaoyoru Thank you for your response. I actually have been worried about posting so often and have brought it up a few times in other places. The problem is if I'm writing a chapter or two a day publishing them only 3 or 4 times a week drives me bonkers! At one time I solved that problem by playing a rotation of a bunch of different stories so that whatever stories one person reads wouldn't be going out every day. Maybe I should think about going back to that. So if you read Robinson's but don't read Alien Adoption you can just skip over those. It's just hard because I get soooo into one story most of the time that I can't switch gears to play a different save. But I haven't really been trying much either. I think that's what I'll do. That'll spread things out a bit. I think there's a lot of people that only read my Murkland story and nothing else.

As to your anxiety about liking or commenting. Completely understandable. We've discussed that here in this thread before. I have that problem with YouTube videos. Even people I consider friends I have a really hard time commenting. But then I feel bad when I see they only have a few comments or likes on a video and figure it would make them happy if I say something. As to blogs, I've gotten a lot better about it but I've also stopped trying to read so many stories. Because I know sooner or later I'm going to go through a phase where keeping up will be really difficult and I'll never be able to catch up.

Also, I'm always surprised when I get views on really old stories. But every once in awhile someone will read through all the chapters and like and comment. It's so exciting to me because I feel like all the work I put into it was worth it. It's also made me restart old "on the back burner" stories because it makes me appreciate them again. So don't feel bad liking or commenting on someone's stuff way after it was originally published. I just read through CathyTea's Shift story and it's fully complete.

Also thanks for reading! I am trying to widdle down on the number of sims in the household to make it easier to remember who is who. I had this problem in Heart & Soul too.

    @Rainydayz179 @Asaoyoru

Rainy, I'm really glad you brought this up with us! :)

Yoru--I really liked your response! So insightful, and it's really useful to hear a reader's perspective. I appreciate your being brave to share an honest response; your view is really helpful!

Rainy, I notice the same things with my stories. The first chapter of a series might get loads of views and loads of likes, then by the time I'm at about the mid-way point, the views and likes are at about the standard level for me, which is a lot less than what the first ones got.

I know what you mean about finding motivation from reader-interest! That can be such a great and fun motivator. I also know that, like me, you seem to often like your writing to keep generally in pace with your game-play (the two are such a tandem part of the creative act of telling the story), and I also know, like you, you seem to enjoy surfing the creative waves.

You could consider scheduling posts--if it is important to you to take readers' capacities, busy schedules, and pacing into consideration. A lot of our favorite writers do this, and their readers seem to really appreciate this! This also gives you posts to carry over during times when you might be in a writing/game-play lull. It's worth considering!

I've considered it for myself--I've decided against because, for me, I like my blog to be an organic record for the creative process I'm engaged with. I view it more like a log--or as a living growing draft--than a finished, polished work. The drafting/publishing is an integral part of the process for me, and I've decided, at least for now, not to work scheduling posts into that. I don't want that delay between finishing a draft and getting it out there in this particular experience (especially since I've got a lot of other areas of my life where that delay is built into the process).

But you could think about it to see if it fits you!

I am still reading and enjoying each of your chapters. I like the funny game-glitches, like the repairman thing, and I like watching how everyone grows and develops.

There is always a slump that happens in every legacy around gen 4-6: I mean, how many flounder at that time, never to be finished? A lot! Even some really good ones.

It can be really rewarding to work through the slump: to just make the commitment to finish, even if it means skipping the documenting of a generation, shifting the writing style, or even exploring the boredom. It's worth it!

Once it's done, too, you'll have readers who go through it simply because they enjoy reading completed legacies: There aren't all that many that make it all the way to gen 10!

So, give yourself permission to change it up as you want, and even to just keep on going through. Think about whether scheduling posts would work for you.

And... cherish these loyal readers you do have! <3

@CathyTea Thanks for the advice and encouragement. I actually do schedule my posts about a week or more ahead of my actual game play. At this moment, I have chapters for Robinson's and On Their Own scheduled up to Saturday. I've found this really helpful because I know what's going to happen in the future and can tweak previous chapters to foreshadow those future events. One nice thing about having less readers is I feel a little more comfortable making decisions for the story that might not be as popular or understood.

@friendsfan367 You're right about using devices. This is the reason I read blogs primarily on my computer.

Congrats on your blogaversary! When it popped up on my phone I was like hmmm isn't mine soon too? LOL I'll have to go look on my old Blogger blog and see what the actual date is. I made that big celebration thing last year, it would be fun to do it again.

I know that you finished your first legacy in something like December 2014! I think @Rainydayz179 is the first official one to have completed a TS4 legacy, right, Rainy? And you were pretty close after that, @friendsfan367 !

I didn't finish my legacy until Dec. 2015.

@CathyTea Sadly, it looks like I missed the official blogaversary. My first post was written 7/30/14. I moved from Blogger to WordPress last June so no, I won't have the popup to remind me. One thing I was surprised to see when I was checking is that my views for that blog are up to 95,372! So crazy since I moved most of the stuff onto WordPress. And yes, when I told Pinstar that I'd completed my first scored legacy after Sims 4 came out he told me that as far as he knew I was the first. He even announced it on Twitter at the time! The funny part is knowing so much more about the game now than I did back then my score now is close to my ending score that first time and I've only just started the fourth generation. I may do a little post just as a 3 years since Sims 4 has been out type of thing.

The point is, I've finally got to the part in my current legacy that I was really excited about. Nothing that really explains what I've done other than the fact that I'm once again getting further into the legacy as I'm ending the 3rd generation soon.

As a major legacy player, I can understand your frustration. There are inevitably slow periods to any story, and I for one don't like to skip time unless it makes sense to the story. For me, the anticipation of a reveal is what keeps me going, even in game-driven stories where that reveal may change over time! I began writing 3 separate stories so that I could still keep to my goal of 1 post per day, while giving my readers a break so they could read only what interested them. As it is, I still have 3 more stories shelved that won't see the light of day for a while.

I've only been posting my stories publicly for 2 months now, and I've run into 3 problems. First, was that I didn't have enough content to interest people. Secondly, was that I was completely out of sync with my play/writing balance. Lastly, was that I wasn't making time to read as much as I wanted to.

This long weekend I took the opportunity to stop playing and catch up on writing and editing screenshots for my stories. I'm both sad and delighted to say that I have content ready for up to Sept 22 right now. Sad, because it's going to be 3 weeks before I get to reveal something! Delighted, because I love being organized.

Now that I'm caught up, I'm happy to say I'll finally get to read some of you wonderful authors, both those that have encouraged me and those that others rave about. I'm so excited!

@Karilan I've only skipped time a few times. I find playing and not screenshotting and documenting everything really boring! I'm liking the idea of trying to do multiple stories again. I'm glad you and @Asaoyoru have suggested it. I actually was about to start playing my Xenophilia challenge again when I realized the rules are really outdated and haven't been updated in two years. So instead of playing I spent several hours updating the rules and adding in the second option for the challenge that I'd thought of and was going to suggest to the person who updated them from Sims 2. So much for getting to play today!

Give yourself time to have more content. I'm sure most people who stumble upon my site are overwhelmed by the number of stories on there! I have a rhythm to my playing/writing balance that really works well for me. Unless I'm trying to tell a particular story in a single chapter I keep my chapters 25-30 screenshots plus whatever stuff like moodlet pics that I've screenshotted. So I constantly check my screenshots folder to see how many I've taken and when I get close I try to finish out that day and once I get everyone into bed I do the whole formatting of the pics and writing of the chapter thing. Then I clear out all the folders of pics and do it all over again. I've found if I wait to write a chapter even a day I will forget why I took a screenshot. But that's because of my goofy writing style. I'll see something I think is funny and take a shot and then later look at it like what the heck? LOL

Also, I go crazy waiting a week to reveal something exciting that happened, I can't imagine waiting 3 weeks! Now that's dedication. Have fun reading! There are so many talented people in this community. I wish I could read more!

@Rainydayz179 Since I started writing again, I have trouble playing without telling a story! Having multiple stories helps with that too.

Prior to this long weekend, I had almost 20 chapters of screenshots or writing that needed to be matched up, and yes, I looked at some screenies like "what was going on here?!"

@friendsfan367 The temptation is so high!! I just babble about plot points to my fiance :D

Hello, I'm new to this section of the forums but not new to writing. I am new to SimLit however and have been working on my first story for a little over a week. I haven't done much writing in several years and after a decent start, am feeling anxious and creatively blocked. Any tips or constructive criticism would be really helpful :)

    Hi @NyteRose and welcome!

Like you, I began writing again about 2 months ago using SimLit as a platform. I currently have 2 game-driven legacies going that provide me with inspiration and writing prompt style stores, and one plot-driven story that is obviously more of a struggle since it's completely reliant on my own inspiration. It was difficult to get going at first, but a lot of fun to build friendships here while you write.

Writing prompts aren't for everyone, but I find them great practice for writing random stories if you go into it thinking "this is just for fun and might not develop into anything major". Keep the pressure off. Sometimes I can read prompts for an hour before I find one that kicks off an idea, but it's worth it!

The challenge list pinned on the Stories & Legacies first page is a great place to get some ideas to start.

Hi, @NyteRose and welcome! One thing that helped me (aside from just diving in and posting my posts even when feeling anxious) was to start feeling like I had a place in the community. I was really happy when a few people whose blogs I loved began following my blog and commenting on my story. When one of them left a comment that said, "I'm really enjoying this!", I suddenly started feeling brave enough to share more of myself and more of my perspective! :) It was awesome!

Even though eventually I drew some criticism for sharing my own individual perspective, by the time I became aware of the criticism, I'd already developed a really strong support system here, lots of really good friends and readers, and a full bushel of confidence!

So... dive in! Chat with us here! Before you know it, you'll have a group of readers that you resonate with, and that'll go so far in building motivation and confidence!

And if those ever lag (which they sometimes do) you can always plop right back on the Kindness Bench for a dose of support and cheer!
