Sims will not sit down when eating!

I've tried to post in the respective thread at Answer HQ but for some reason it will not let me post there so I have to report this here instead.

My sims will not sit down when eating anymore, instead they stay right next to the fridge or wherever they got the serving from and eat while standing. It happens to me since I installed the toddler stuff pack patch yesterday. They also will not sit down when I direct them to sit on the chair, they just keep standing infront of the fridge or counter without reacting to any of my commands. It's very frustrating!

I swear, the dining room chairs or the couch are much more comfortable than standing in the kitchen yet my sims will not sit down. The only way to get them to sit at the table is by first telling them to sit, then putting the food in their inventory and then directing them to eat it, which is quite annoying if you have more than one sim.

I hope this gets fixed soon.

I am sorry that you are having this issue. It can sometimes help to direct a sim to sit on a chair, then they will eat the food, and other sims will also follow. I am sorry that that this is not helping in your game.
If the fridge is in the corner of the room, try moving it to another position in the room, as that can sometimes help.

Repairing the game may help. To do that, right click on the sims 4 picture in Origin and click repair.

Try resetting your sims 4 folder and see if that helps. To do that, move your sims 4 folder ( that is in Documents -Electronic Arts - then the sims 4 folder is there ) to the desktop. Then start the game, and a new sims 4 folder will be generated. Exit the game and then copy back the "options.ini" or " options " file and the "saves" , "screenshots" "tray" "custom music " and "mods" folders from the desktop sims 4 folder to the new sims 4 folder, replacing the new generated file/ folders with the old file/folders from the desktop sims 4 folder.

It apparently did post my post in the answer HQ thread, I just for some reason couldn't see it. Luckily it didn't triple post!

I've repaired the game but it didn't change anything, neither did resetting the folder or removing the mods alltogether. It also happens with both the Mahan household and the foster family and they have entirely different kitchens with different fridges so I don't think it depends on the objects. What did work for me is to tell them to grab a serving and before they do so tell them to go sit on the chair. It's still fairly annyoing but a little more bearable.

I think it's just a game bug, though I'm wondering if I'm the only one affected by it right now? I found other threads with the same issue but they were all older so I don't know if the issue was fixed and just reintroduced with the latest patch or something like that.

Hi @Karlia, my sims are also standing in front of the fridge to eat rather than choosing to sit down and eat. It's really annoying, because apart from anything else, it blocks other sims from getting to the fridge. It is an old problem that was fixed for a while, but then revived with the Toddler patch. In my case, though, I am able to make my sims sit down - at least most of the time - by clicking on a dining chair or barstool as soon as they have taken the food out of the fridge. Is it possible that there may be a problem with your chairs?

@FKM100 No, I found the same solution as you did (mentioned in my last post here) and my chairs and fridges are different in each household. It works when I tell them to go sit down before they start eating but they still should choose to sit down by themselves.

This was all cleared up a few months ago, but came back with this month's patch. It is one of the first things I noticed. Someone in a smaller household may not notice as much, but standing in front of fridge, not being able to get leftovers again if someone else is going to fridge, too, and not going to the near by table to sit is all back with the Aug. patch

I've just had this problem since a few days ago too. After updating as well, just like you. Hmm, does seem to be an issue with the patch. Hope it's sorted out soon.

Try directing your sim to sit at a dining chair and see if that helps.

Same issue here. Sometimes they'll go sit with someone else at the dining room table, but if nobody's there, nope, they will block the fridge.

Asking them to sit doesn't always work, sometimes it causes them to put the food back in the fridge instead of eating it (if they autonomously decided to eat something).

Same, my Sim now stands in front of fridge. She used to go and sit down :(
