I agree with @undressyourbones about the shy/introverted people part. I don't normally post outside of art/video related threads on forums and mostly lurk. I've had this forum account for a few months but didn't really get to reading anything on these forums until recently when I noticed there's an Artist Haven and I thought to myself - oh yes. I want to share my art! - but can't. not yet.
However! I actually like the point system. I mean, maybe it can be different but this is enough to give me the motivation to finally look through threads other than the help center, and learn even more things about the game and the community itself that way. So far it's looking friendly. And way thank you for this thread! Its very helpful.
@Ritens You know, you make a good point! It did make me come out of my comfort zone , post and explore! Otherwise I suppose I would've lurked my whole life o_o lol , just kidding, but also half serious .
I joined the forums from being redirected from a friend on Reddit. But I am highly dissapointed since I joined for the purpose of making some posts, especially to show case my build project I am currently doing and a post to look for friends as I recently left a community and lost a large group of friends. Now I must waste time commenting on a large amount of discussions. I was on the forums years ago but had to make a new account because my old one was deactivated or something. What a shame.
@DoritosConfirmed Eh, I don't see it as a bad thing. People flock to the forums eager to post their things for downloads and favorites, there has to be a filter.
I don't see it as wasting time, on the contrary. I'm taking my time and getting to know the community here on the forums just by lurking and reading, and even posting once in a while if the topic is of interest. I see this system as a form of "initiation".
I guess people want to see activity from a person rather than have loads of individuals only show up to share their pictures and nothing more
(Plus this system keeps trolls out! Always a good thing.)
How do I make a post?? I looked at the tutorial and it says there should be a button that says "create new discussion" but its not there for me?
Hello @amanderan_oranges Welcome to the forums
There is usually a blue new discussion button at the top right hand side of the screen in the forum sections. But new discussion threads though may have been restricted for new members. You may not be able to start a new thread until you become a full member. This occurs sometimes, especially at weekends and at holiday times.
You need to have 50 points and 30 posts before you can become a full member and can then post pictures, have a signature, edit posts , post links and change your profile picture.
When you are a full member you will be able to start a new thread.
@amanderan_oranges , as the first page says you have to become a Member in order to post new threads
As said: You need 50 Points, 30 Posts and have an account older than 24 hours to become a Member.
So you have to hang around here for a little bit! Until then, I suggest using the Search option up in the corner to see if there's similar topics with what you want to post or ask, and then posting there!
Oh wow! I tabbed out to play the game a bit, tab back and I'm a member! Amazing, thank you!
Took me a while but I really enjoyed my "new member" rank and making my way through ^^ Hope to get to know the community a bit better now !

Hey y'all ! I'm trying to become a full member so I can share pics and links with y'all ! Can you help me out please ? Can I get a few likes ? Maybe a couple of awesomes...some at mentions lol.
I've made a post before though that's the weird part..
We had a rash of spambot attacks last year to the point that EA had disabled the New Discussion button for a few days to keep the attacks from happening. The last round of spambot attacks took place last November and that was the last time that I have seen any new threads being made by new members as I believe that the EA moderators had gone and disabled the button for all new members until they become full members.

I do understand the system, But I have been using the forums for years. And now I am force to start over, having only 13 points at the current moment yet need 50 in order to be a member. I've been engaging the off topic discussions the past few days, have gotten some badges but apparently that isn't enough. So that tedious bit does feel like I am wasting my time. I don't feel like I am involved at all, when I was on the forums years ago, I could make a discussion of what I actually cared for passionately. Now I just have to reply to discussions just because I need the activity to gain points. Even though I was a member who used the site often years ago.
I was a member of the forum, I know why they changed the system. But I am, very frustrated. I lost my old account as I believe they deleted it. But I had used it for years. And now starting over would be fine, but not when I've been trying to get points and am stuck at having 13 yet need 50 in order to have an enjoyable time.
@Samaramon I've had this new account since January, and have been engaging in the forums since when I started this new account. A month later and still am considered a new member. I am very anti-social, it's very hard for me to engage with specific aspects of forums. Especially since all I've seen at the top of the forums are forum games and not discussions that I could engage in.
You will get there! Yeah it's a bit unfair if you did have to start over (especially losing friends) but technical hiccups affect happen and affect everyone... Once again sorry, seems I misunderstood the first post.

Besides posting over in the Off Topic section, you can also find threads that may be of interest to you in whatever Sims game that you play. Just join in on some of them as they too will help get your points up as well as your post count...
Ugh ok I agree with the need to keep spamming to a minimum but it is annoying that they're forcing people to have to post around on things they may not care about in order to be able to post stuff they do care about. Not to mention that this is not very obvious as to why people can't post things. For instance I want to post a challenge I've made but I'd like it to have it's own thread and not be lost in the giant legacy and challenge thread that's in place.
There's also the fact that I have been playing for years and I'm on here pretty often I just don't post much. Honestly I feel that the post requirement can backfire a bit. While it does mean that people are posting more I'm pretty sure for someone like myself I'll only really do the required posts at the start and then not really post that often but I'd do it just so that when I have something I'd actually like to talk about on a forum I'd be able to.
Again I understand why they do this it's just a bit frustrating.
