@GaiaHypothesis , I got the same general eyebag/red from crying look (Jared was meant to be crying for hours) with only the eyeshadow and some fiddling of the colors on one of the eyeshadows. Will try it on a girl next I need loads of criers for my story! I love your girl's look!
A lot of my simmer friends don't use CC and yet I can tell their sims apart when I read their stories. I played the game for the longest time without CC and never thought my sims looked dull and same-looking. The EA sliders, when worked properly, can give a very diverse range of looks.
Even without CC, I prefer the look of TS3 sims. I haven't tried TS4 yet (although I will one day), but I can't help but have seen millions of screenshots so I can say that for me TS3 sims and their surroundings is more to my taste.
@Simanite Thank you That is Odessa Cross from Barnacle Bay,she is a regular townie and lives alone in a house there.Just has a light lipstick the one with the shine on it and the base game under eyeliner.Go snatch her up.
? Can you show me your super dull sims 3 pics. Here are a few of mine.
Omg is that the cutest toddler ever
Everyone has such beautiful pics and the sims without CD wow. I guess I need a little skin CC or my sims look awful haha XD but really you don't need it at all.
These pictures are all fantastic, and if the sims in sims 3 all looked like this I would love playing it, but they don't, not without loads of CC. Even with my graphics set on the highest settings my sims in 3 don't look this good, they never do. sims 3 is a great game but it only looks as good you re making out because most of you have a ton of cc on your sims. Without cc sims in 3 are pretty ugly, it's still a great game though.
I'm sorry you weren't able to come up with a better way to phrase this, since I feel like you kind of brought down the vibe of the whole thread. Even just saying something like, 'I wish my sims looked as good as some of these sims but I don't use CC' would have been sufficient.
As many people have said, not everyone is using CC. How they look in game depends on your PC hardware and after that it's just personal taste. Personally I prefer CC skins and eyes at a minimum, but some players can make great looking sims without any CC at all. I'm not all that big on making sims so what I usually do is to take a sim I like and just tweak them in CAS.
In both games, Maxis intended for the sims to look like dolls. A lot of people like the look of the default dolls in TS4 without CC, but I see plenty of people loading up their TS4 sims with CC as well. If you prefer a more realistic or refined look, then the use of CC is perfectly OK. In fact there has been more than once that I saw a sim picture on the internet and I couldn't even tell if it was a TS3 sim loaded up with CC or a TS4 sim loaded up with CC. In all cases I finally concluded that it was a TS4 sim.
Back to the topic at hand, here's a dull screenshot in Hidden Springs. My fireman had an emergency happening at the hospital.
The Sims
Where are we going, and why am I in this hand basket?!
YAY, excited for this thread! Love the other ones two but they're so huge, it's overwhelming trying to keep up haha. @GaiaHypothesis and @GITTE2001 you two always have the most gorgeous sims! Makes me jealous.
@brackencat31 I highly disagree with you. I'm one who uses CC but minimal because I don't like to change the look of the sims too far outside of what they were originally. Here's two pre-made sims from Hidden Springs for example;
Both indoors so no custom lighting (though I find that argument irrelevant anyway because a lot of EA worlds have custom lighting too), they are even wearing EA hairs and clothing. Only CC on them is their default skin, eye, and brow replacements, and mascara on the blonde. And in my opinion, they're GORGEOUS. So no, it doesn't take a buttload of CC to make good looking sims, period.
Now to share some of my own super dull pictures, under the cut because I can get a little crazy. Try not to fall asleep guys xD
Wow you guys have some wonderful landscape shots @06Bon06 ( on topic ) you really hit the mark with those MH trees against the fall foliage ( off topic ) I just wanted to say ty for your tutorial on how to use the forums, it saved me when I was floundering
I love everybody's pictures here and have a few more dull ones from my Glen Harbor legacy in Glenvale County which is in Maryland. These boring pictures were taken in the winter of 1662.I don't use HQ or lighting Mods and only edited the weather report shot to look like a news article from their newspaper.
I had to adjust the traffic delta in NRaas Traffic because the default setting was generating too many decorative taxis.I set it to -400 and the traffic vanished. Here's a picture showing how empty the roads are with the new traffic delta setting.
so many I wanted to comment on but I'll limit it to just the first I don't want everyone sitting there reading my comment for an hour lol I'll just say love them all!!!
Dull?Umm,yeah,oh sure I totally agree ...now where's that animated eye-rolling emoji when I really need it?
@ everyone, truly awesome way to get a point across.High-fives to all! Appaloosa Plains during autumn always was beautiful I thought..... oh,monkey whiskers,I meant terribly excruciatingly boring.
so many I wanted to comment on but I'll limit it to just the first I don't want everyone sitting there reading my comment for an hour lol I'll just say love them all!!!
On the topic of Sims 3 sims all lookking the same - I shared these pictures in a previous thread when someone said something similar. I don't use any CC on my Sims (although I use some buy mode CC for interiors). These two sims are both YA women with long, blond hair wearing red lipstick. I don't think they look even remotely alike!
@CravenLestat, I don't want to argue with anyone, I play sims 3 a lot still, it's a good game and I enjoy it, but the sims in your pictures, they have different hair and outfits but their faces are all the same, they don't look as good as the cc sims. That's all I wanted to say really, there is nothing wrong with my graphics card, i just think it's amusing that you re all posting fantastic pictures of how great sims 3 looks yet most of you are (not all) are using lighting mods, sliders, plenty of custom skins. Your sims look lifeless, the Cc ones are wonderful however but that's due to the wonderfully talented people out there who make Cc not sims 3 itself.
If CravenLestat's sims look lifeless, give me lifeless (and thanks for standing up for my sims so passionately Gitte haha ).
The thing with yes or no CC is a matter of preference. There's a lot of CC that is far from appealing to me, I'd never want it in my game. Does that matter? No, it doesn't, we all decide for ourselves what we prefer and not prefer. It's not up to you to decide whether they look or not look as good as CC covered sims. It's definitely hard to create unique faces in Sims 3, that's not the same as 'lifeless' though. In fact I've never been a fan of premades in Sims 3, CravenLestat has made me reconsider that opinion.
I use kurasoberina's primer skin now (indeed thanks to Gitte) and I love it on my new sims. It suits them. But when I put one of my old sims in my current game, I must say I prefer him vanilla.
Silas is my old sim, on the left. The upper picture being vanilla, the lower with a CC skin. I prefer his vanilla version. Lance (right) is a new sim. Him I much prefer in his CC version below.
And comparing vanilla guys in 2, 3 and 4, the Sims 4 guy is the dull one for me (the females appeal to me more in the game, and the todds ).
So you see, what you are saying is not a law set in stone. Besides, yes, I see people using CC and lighting mods in the pictures shown here (like the OP's gorgeous sims). So? It is all Sims 3. Nobody claimed they were showing vanilla, they just show how their games look.
Small word of advice btw, if you don't want to argue with people, don't start an argument.
P.s. I read your later responses after typing this, so I may sound more snarky than I would have if I'd read that first
Time for another dull sim of mine and Hi @JoAnne65
PS: Is a EA premade untweaked NPC firefighter no CC and the shirt pattern is made by a guy I know who knows a guy who looks exactly like me.The top is from 70s,80s,90s stuff.Hair from frightful hair limited edition EA set, skirt is base game I think might be Late Night, gloves are base game makeup is base game.
I guess compared to the over saturated eye bleed that is TS4, TS3 with it's relatively recognizably realistic palette is dull...in all it's soothing, non-migraine generating glory. Cool pics guys x
@GaiaHypothesis Thank you so much for the links to your sims. Nosemasks are a new item for me so those should help a bunch. I was wondering how you got the noses to look so realistic. The Hair link for Rory is not working, I searched around but couldn't find it anywhere. All links for it seem to be to a broken sims file share link. Finally found it on the creators page on TSR. My current sim was actually using nearly the same style, just more flat vs sticking up.
Again, thank you so much. I only started playing sims 3 again in December after a two year break. Restarting with no CC at all. So my Sim CC was only like 12 files of 3 skins, 2 eyes and so on. Mostly things from Sims I had downloaded. Now I have a much better start and extremity more indepth sliders.

That be a fireplace. No mods, just used fog emitters to make it.
This is Stevie:
And this is Tilly:
Ultimate cc-list
My top 5
The sim in the black and white stripe dress was made about the time University Life was introduced and has no CC on her.
Nate is one of my favourite sims and he does have a non default skin. His hair may be cc as well. Baby is wearing a default baby skin.
This would be Judy before I gave her some CC skin.
And here she is after I gave her the CC skin.
EDIT: I thought I'd add a few more -
This is Kitty and she has CC skin
This group are without CC
This is Rose. No CC and she's in my studio
My Gondola lot - no CC and it's in my studio
Some sims I made when first experimenting with CC skins
