EA silence on family play and family play fans

Been seeing people comment that they think this thread will be closed, it will not. While some of the conversation was previously focused around the lack of Toddlers in Sims 4 the majority of this thread is a place for family players to share what is going on in their games and to voice their opinions on what they feel is missing for their play style.

So please keep conversation in this focused on the topic of family play and do not attempt to derail the thread :)

    Have a great night everyone!

I have to commend you and your team, I honestly thought we would never see toddlers ever in this game. I thought this game was all about shortcuts on how to milk it for the most money etc. Since the toddler update, I've been playing everyday, its truly a great game now. I can't wait for you guys to pull out your guns for the other lifestages. I do hope #freethebabies is next :D

I'm actually pretty shocked we're not getting a toddlers/kids themed stuff pack this quarter. They would have made a fortune if they had released one this week.

I think that as they had a 'Kids Room SP' last year you don't need to make one at the moment. Maybe later this year or next year once they have picked up on some new ideas they could have something that includes toddler stuff as well

Currently there are no pushchairs in game, would love those. Another poster has made a venue that has a toddler play area is trying to find a workaround to make toddlers spawn there. More content for toddlers is definitely needed and obviously one cannot expect it to be free.

I'm hoping this new bowling stuff pack is actually a venue and that we will get more stuff packs like that.

So happy to hear this although it would almost be criminal to close this thread after all this time.

Just another 'omg I'm so happy with toddlers' post. Please keep up the good work. If the rest of DLC comes outs like this I'll be a happy customer.

    Oh - #FreeTheBabies and #ShrinkTheTeens

I finally got my two oldest toddlers to age up and have one toddler left in that family. Going from toddler to child is now very jarring.

I wish some of the interactions were also available for children. I went to try to tuck the kids in, it became a natural part of my routine. I couldn't anymore. I'd love it if the "check on" interaction was available for children, too. They can say something like homework help, hungry, or needs to play outside. Maybe even like...I broke something, can you repair it?

They also need more childcentric things to do. I don't know why, but the urge to get my kids running around that open space is really strong. They need to play tag, hide and seek, red hands, can they link handheld video games together?

Also, I don't know if it was just me, but my toddler and big kids couldn't talk while playing with the dollhouse. That was the one thing I thought I could count on to be there. But I also do like that children can help the toddlers skill and show them how to do things. That's awesome!

One more thing, I think traits need to be reworked for all other ages. Toddlers are so different from one another. I want to see that across the board. Trait need to have meaning. And skills...I really think that TS5 should completely use this sliding scale. Open up more interactions as you skill. It seems so natural. I like it. Seeing it in the toddlers highlights the contrast between them and every other age.

They still could, I think!? It couldn't be in the teaser, because they weren't here yet, and he quarter isn't over until... when? I don't know, these details interest me little. They could just come out and say, here's a toddler pack TaDaaaa!

They probably won't lol. But I want one, changing tables and strollers are necessities in the real world.

@SimGuruDrake Thanks for stepping in

I don't see any need for the thread to be closed just because toddlers have been added. Some threads can evolve over time. There is only one successful long term thread that is 'what happened in your game today?' in the TS3 GD and it is good to see another long term thread that is now 'positive' rather than 'negative' like most long term threads are.

Thank you for the clarification, @SimGuruDrake !

I wouldn't have minded a seperate thread since this one has gone on so long and I wanted to make sure you gurus and devs see it, but if this thread is allowed to live and is helpful for you gurus and devs and is allowed to stay awesome for the community, then I am cool with it.

They won't release a toddler SP so soon because some people will complain that stuff was intentionally left out of the update to be sold separately.

Good points. I already said in another thread that it is fortunate that no one had to pay for toddlers. One suggestion was that toddlers could be free and an 'Generations EP' would flesh them out but even that idea was written off as unfair.

Giving toddlers away for free is the best idea at this point. Later SPs could cater for them in the future

It depends on what is in the pack. If there are new diaper changing options and animations, more interactions between child and toddler, teen and toddler so on... I'd be willing to pay £8. I spend more than that a day on lunch.

One thing I have thought about in the future is active schools. I know there is a TS4 mod for active schools but I am talking about an actual EP here. Maybe have a different school for each life stage. Toddlers can go to nursery school where they can learn to play with others. These day care centres can also take pressure off of parents. Children can go to a primary school or elementary school where they will be taught by a class teacher and then once they are a teen they can go to a secondary or high school where they will be taught by a subject teacher.

A University EP of course can cover all age groups from YA onwards

I'd be happy to purchase a stuff pack with a toddler theme if it had content like you mention and I know many others would too.

That's a great idea!! An Education EP would be awesome! My sim kids don't usually have many friends because school and homework take up most of their time. In real life children and teens meet their friends and socialise in school, so it would be perfect. And so many stories could be told (social groups in high school etc.)...I actually would find this way more interesting that active careers.

Yeah me too. Especially if they throw in stuff like swing sets & other outdoor objects to play on, bunk beds, a few more kid interactions, and just generally cool stuff lol. I find a 1.90 GB patch to be extremely large and unexpected, so I wouldn't mind paying 10 or so for a bunch of other optional stuff, asa it's well done :)

Good idea @king_of_simcity7! I like that idea and it expands on not just University, but includes all ages.

    I'd like that, a uni & school & daycare EP combined :D

I actually installed the game again just to see how the toddlers were (something I thought I would never do) and they did a really good job on toddlers. It's certainly a step in the right direction. Sadly though, not enough to get me to play it. Still too much missing for my taste, but that is for another thread. Family play needs more attention, but they cleared a big hurdle in that respect.

@Pixelsimmer, @Tremayne4260 and @SimTrippy Thanks for the feedback on my idea

I think that gradual aging could work with Sims progressing trough school as well. Preteens fall into what some countries called the middle school or junior high school but these probably function like actual high schools as students are taught by a subject tutor so preteens could go to the same school as actual teens. It would be interesting watching Sims go between different classes during the day, through the hallways and seeing different traits come out. Are their bullies in this school? Is one preteen going to get a 'wedgie' or something else embarrassing?

Or will these schools be like the one in Grease where all of the kids start singing and dancing in the classroom? :D

I want my future vamp tots to bite their toys or have the adults do something like the "Claw" thing from Sims 3, but maybe showing fangs at the tot or something.

Yes, vamp tots or vamps interacting with tots are on my mind currently, and I think it would be cute to add vamp content for tots.:heart::blush:

I hope future EP content will include some content for the tots, like how Pets interacted with the little tykes in past games (or tots eating pet food or napping pet beds), and stuff like that!

The idea doesn't seem unfair to me. I'd always hoped they'd go that direction, and now that we have them, I'm even more interested in the idea. Toddlers are so well done, and they have plenty of content that I would feel fits for being part of the base. Then if they included more content in a Generations EP (like outdoor toys, etc.) along with more features and content for the other ages, it's an EP I'd be really excited about. Plus preteens. I'd be ok with paying for preteens because it's something we've never had before. Then it wouldn't bug me as much that teens are the same height as adults, but I would want them to add more activities & interactions that are teen-focused so that they don't seem like mini-adults.

I'm probably rambling and making little sense. :p Perhaps I need more caffeine. Basically I love the toddlers as they are, they're very well done. But, it's only part of the pie. I really hope they will keep this trend going, because the game needs it.
