I feel your pain. I just wanted to join in some of the picture topics but found out the hard way.
You guys can get points from badges, I know you guys already made it, but you could've just looked at badges, see how many points are rewarded for what, then do the little quest.

Do I get points when I "like", "awesome" or "insightful" on other people's posts? Sorry I'm just trying to understand what to do.

Hello @JLBDreamer .
No, you only get points when another simmer likes/awesomes/presses insightful on your posts.
You don't need to be sorry at all! It is good to ask questions when you have queries
If someone posts something worthy of being liked, it gets liked.
If a post is insightful, then that will be clicked.
To get an awesome, the post needs to be awesome.
Typically, either being super helpful, witty, or just posting god stuff about your sims, are the main ways to get a lot of likes and etc.
Does that make sense? Does it answer your questions?
I really need points too... it's so difficult to get them! Also can anyone tell me how to make my own discussion? I really don't know
Hello @iplaysims24
New discussion threads may have been restricted for new members. You may not be able to start a new thread until you become a full member.
If you have a game issue, you can post it on another similar thread that another simmer has already started, and there will be simmers that will help you with your issue.
Honestly, this new system for ranking is very frustrating. It's taken me way too long to get "points". If I wasn't so close I would abandon all hope and never come back to these forums. This new system dictating that you have to have 50 points to do something as simple as post your own thread will surely be a turn-off to new members.
Admins, if you see a decline in new membership, ^^ This is why.

I think I'm like 3 points away from 50. It hasn't taken very long honestly. I can see some people getting turned off the forums from it though.
Hello @A_Culler
You have the required posts/points to become a full member. Try logging out of the site, then logging back in again and see if it shows you as a full member then.

This was done as a result of heavy and even gross trolling activity in autumn 2014. Lewd avatars, signatures and so-forth--- The decline in new membership they are looking for is a decline in the numbers of those who come in here (or any forum environment) just to be annoying (putting it mildly).
This happened shortly before I came in here, and I had to go through the same process as everyone else - including a ban on new avatars even for full members until December 2014 because of the same ridiculous activity.
Additionally, earlier this year came the Spambot attacks. Relentless "bombing" of the forums with spam in (often in Korean) which, even when read by Korean language speakers-- was nothing but nonsensical and disjointed babble.
As recently as earlier this month there were spam-bot attacks on a couple threads in here. The spammers don't give up and it is not all that unreasonable to think that they have "inside help" because these bogus accounts are opened in spite of "Recaptchas" and "double verification" for new accounts.
One can thank those behind those attacks for the fact that New Members are not allowed to start threads, too.
Also, ranking and privilege levels are not unique to this forum, for the very same reason. Some people simply have too much time on their hands and too little constructive purpose to their lives..

Reading your post, I certainly understand why they would do something like this, but this is overly strict. It's punishing regular people. I am a member on a hell of a lot of forums, including a couple I moderate, and this is the only one that has such a restricted ranking privilege.
Not being able to change your profile pic or sig is not a big deal really, but not being able to start a thread for help on a gaming forum is ridiculous. You have to spam yourself first? No, sorry, this is not the way a reasonable forum is handled. This is just in place to keep mod work down instead of finding a proper solution.
What's going to stop those spambots from overcoming this? They will just spam themselves 30 times, and if it's done well enough, they might even get enough likes to make it to member. Then what? New people will need 100 posts? This might stop the nasty pictures, but it's only a matter of time until spam gets through if it was already getting past the recaptchas and double verification before.
Like is there nothing surround the Sims right now that is not overly limiting and restricting? GAH.

You also need to have made at least 30 posts to become a member. You've only got 16 so far.
