Can I move my sims to another computer?

Hi everyone.
I currently play Sims 4 on a PC, but it's just awful performance so I have invested in a gaming laptop which will arrive this weekend. My question is this: I am playing my Simself family on my PC and have become very attached to them, and they have lots of money and skills etc which I don't want to lose. So if I were to upload my sim family and their home to the gallery, would they keep their skills and money etc? My plan is to then download them into a new game on my new laptop. Or even better, is there a way to transfer my entire saved game?

Absolutely! I've done it twice already. The folders you need to copy over are these:

My Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims4 > Tray (your Library houses and Sims)
My Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims4 > Saves (your savegames)

I have a slightly different situation. During a period while my computer was down, I created a family on a temporary computer. I would like to move that one family/ save back to my restored computer so I can switch between games. Will copying those files effect the existing files in those directories? Do you know?

I think you would be able to copy the family to the restored computer but I'm not too sure if the saves would work or if it will affect the ones in the restored computer.

Just rename the save file with a different number (even a letter works!) from any of the ones in the other directory, and you'll be fine.

Did you ever lose your saves? I have been trying to get my created sims to show up on my new computer. I transferred everything and I went to my sims and I clicked play and it just goes to create a new sim. Now my sims is updating ONCE again.... It keeps getting to like 40% and says update failed. I don't know what is going on with my game. Please help if you know of anything. Thanks! :smile:

Hello @jessim392. When you installed the game onto your new computer, did you play the game once to generate a sims folder, then replaced the saves, trays etc folders in the newly generated sims 4 folder with your old saves, tray folders? Did you go to the " load " button ( with the floppy disk symbol ) in the main screen to load one of your save games?

Make sure that no background programs are running that may cause issues whilst you are updating.

Try clearing your temporary files

Try uninstalling and reinstalling origin and see if that helps with the updating of your game.

@jessim392 which one of @rosemow 's methods did you use? I'm having the same problem, I've tried everything, moved both Tray and Saved files over but they are still not in the game! The floppy disk icon isn't on the main screen either. Please help!

Did you replace the newly generated saves and tray folders that are in your documents -electronic arts - sims folder with your back up save and tray folders?
Try moving to the desktop the saves and tray folders that are in the documents -electronic arts -sims 4 folder. Then place your back up saves and tray folders into the sims 4 folder.

Yeah I did. I started the game up once to have it create a new Sims 4 folder. Then I deleted the saves and Tray folders in the Sims 4 folder and replaced them with the saves and Tray folders in my back up

Launch the game. Start a new save game. Create a random sim and play the game for a little while. Then save the game. Come out of the game completely. Then go back in again, go to the load button ( that has the floppy disc symbol ) which should now be there, press the load button and see if you can load your other save files now.

@rosemow I began a new game, but now when I try to quit and save it it says 'the game failed to save. Error Code: 0'. I'm so confused!

Hello .
The autosave file may be causing issues. Go to your save folder in Documents -Electronic Arts-Sims 4 folder and move the slot_00000001.save file. to your desktop. That is the autosave file. Then launch the game. Go to the load button ( the one with the floppy disk image) in the main screen in the game, load your game file, play the game and see if it is working okay and if you can save the game without error.

I spent two days trying to figure out why my screen was flickering while on a lot. I'd get a black screen covering the whole screen for a second or two. This post finally worked (so far!) so thanks so much.

I have played Sims 4 on my gaming laptop for about three years. I've never even had a freezing issue. Then I just bought an ultra widescreen monitor, It's 21:9 ratio and awesome for Sims 4. When I started Sims 4 the first time is was still 16:9 and there were black bars on screen. I couldn't get the ratio I wanted so I messed with the Sims 4 heightresolution and lengthresolution parameters. That's when it started.

I tried everything you can think of. Windowed, fullscreen, uninstalling, updating the graphics card and endless other things. When I came across this fix I was worried I'd lost all my characters so I saved them to the community. But this fix worked like a dream.

I'm not sure if it was because of the monitor or me messing with the parameters, but this resolved it for anyone with a similar issue.

I think you can just upload your sims to the gallery then download them on the other PC. Am I wrong about this?

Hello @CDMplaza
If you registered your old sims 3 games with Origin, you can log in to Origin , go to My Games, click on the sims 3 picture and redownload the games onto your computer. You don't need to rebuy the games.

Hello @xKaileenSimsx
Make a copy of your " tray" and " saves" folder that are on the first computer, and place them on an external drive or flash drive.
Then on your other computer, install origin, log in to origin and download/install the sims 4 game. Play the game once to generate a sims 4 folder. Then replace the new " tray " and " save" folders that are in the new sims 4 folder, with a copy of those same folders that are on your external drive.
