What is Custom Content?

Hi everyone! I'm not sure how this works and I don't know if I even have the right category...but I hope I do! I'm new at the Sims. I have the Sims 4 - got it at Christmas time & it's the first Sims game I've owned. I really enjoy playing, creating new characters and building lots of homes. I've heard of the term "Custom Content" but have no idea what it is. So, what is it? My idea of it is this...it's where players can make their own furniture, sims, clothing, etc. that's not offered in the game. I'd be really interested in downloading it or creating my own but I don't know how. Can someone explain it all to me? I'm getting a little bored with the furniture I have now in the game so it would be really cool to make my own or get something new! Can someone also explain to me how you go about downloading custom content? I actually bought the game on the disk - I didn't use torrents or download it off the internet or anything. Thanks so much in advance for all the help!

Mods add other features to the game or fix up issues.
CC commonly refers to items such CAS items or build/buy items. They come as package files.
Mysims4blog is a great site to find cc and mods. They post new cc/mods each day.

There is a feature that when there is a game update, mods/cc are disabled. This link explains about it,

If you decide to install cc/mods into your game, then after each game patch update, you need to reenable your cc/mods. Go to options and tick the " enable custom content and mods" button which is found in :
Options | Other | Enable Custom Content and Mods. Exit the game. Then go back into the game again and see if the cc appears then.

You are correct, custom content is furniture, clothing, and all sorts of other things made by players to enhance and personalize the game. There is a lot of great custom content at Sims 4 Studio forums HERE.
If you're interested in learning to make your own Sims 4 Studio is a great tool that many people use to create Sims 4 content. There are a lot of tutorials designed especially for people who are beginners at making things for a game that show how to use Sims 4 Studio. There is a large list of tutorials and video tutorials to choose from HERE. If you've never tried making CC before one of the easiest projects to start with is a recolor. LexiconLuthor posted a very good start to finish video tutorial that shows how to make your own painting recolor HERE. If you try that tutorial, or any of the tutorials posted at Studio forums, and run into questions please feel welcome to post them in the tutorial thread.
