Forced Origin? Are you kidding, EA????!!!!

I`m strongly annoyed by EA - again. If you're too, just post your opinion down below.

Today I had to reinstall all my Sims3 packs and got something else delivered too: That teeny tiny little update, that doesn't allow me to play my game without starting origin online AND offline. I don't even had the option to refuse that update and with the new launcher I can't refuse any update in the future too.

That EA doesn't care for the client's happiness, I did already know. But that they would go that far, is quiet unbelieveable. I'm getting tired of being EA's punching ball; that's why I didn't bought the much too expenssive, contentless sims4 in the first place and sticked until that update happily with my beloved sims3.

I strongly dislike how sim 3 makes me have to use origin to play the game and it gets on my nerves. What if I don't have WIFI? What if I don't want that EA knows how often I start their game and what downloads I have installed? If there is any way to bypass the launcher and origin, please let me know. If EA would be a person, I would hate that being to death...

Best,
Rapunzel

I already have to start sims with origin for more than a year, come on, it isn't that bad?

For YOU it isn't that bad. For me it's aweful. I tried to avoid EA since they came up with the launcher. And if you are good with it, why are you posting in that tread? You could have ignored it.

If I would like to play an online game, I would play an online game. If not, I want it to be offline. EA did catch enough data by the launcher. Connecting it to Origin and the Internet is the top of the mountain.

And you have to click every single addon every time before you can even start the game. I am asking myself if they want us to play sims4 instead.

Hate having to run Origin all the time too. Irks me more that a company thinks they can make something automatic on my friggin' computer. I don't want to run Origin all the time, what is the purpose??? Sincerely ticked off. :D

Check your installed game files - TheSims3->Game->Bin for an application file called TS3 with the sims 3 icon. With the Steam version of the game, starting the game using that bypasses both the launcher and the Steam client - it allows you to play the game as a stand alone without Steam even being installed. So try starting the game by double clicking on that and see if it does the same for the Origin version.

If it works you can right click on that file, create a shortcut then drag the shortcut onto your desktop and never have to bother with the launcher or client again unless you want to.

If you have the game on disk (base game disk must be pre-2012), you can reinstall - go back a page or two on these forums and there are instructions. Note that the first thing you will need to do is turn off automatic updates in the launcher. If you don't have the game on disk, then you're kind of stuck with Origin. It's awful, I know. Sorry you're having to deal with it.

You can usually buy older versions of the base game from Amazon on disk and install from the disk and manually superpatch to 167 after the base game is reinstalled to fix it if you updated by accident.I've managed to avoid this update because my notice was glitched and had no download button to allow me to update.I didn't care about that because it broke CAW and I use it heavily.

@Kiya_Elle My Sims3 doesn't even have a Game folder with bin. :( Any other tips that I am eagerly awaiting to try? :)

Never mind, I found it. :) Gonna give it a try. Thank you so much.

This won't work if the base game was purchased after Sept. 2012 or if the player has Patch 1.69 that was released by way of Origin last month, which is what this thread is really about. All the shortcut will do is bring up Origin and the Launcher again as for those players the three are now totally entwined.

Those of us still on Patch 1.67 with older base game purchases (disc or digital, doesn't matter), on Steam installs, or playing the Mac OS version of the game can still use the bypass with shortcut trick.

That's how I bypassed the launcher, but the bin application does require origin too. Can I connect my games with steam somehow?

And, yeah, I miss CAW too...
  • igazorigazor Posts: 19,330 Member
You can go from Steam purchase to Origin install.

But I beleive you can't go the other way around. You would have to repurchase your base game and all of your EP/SPs on Steam and reinstall them that way. Quite an expensive proposition.

Im seeing the newer versions on amazon accept for the collectors edition which is the original base game and its $100

    Better off on ebay

Try to find an original base game disc that does not require origin. The original will have diamonds all over it with sims faces inside the diamonds. Also look for a collector edition because that will also have the original base game that does not require Origin. You will have to use the disc, can then manually patch the game to 1.67 and make sure origin is set not to update the sims 3 for the 1.69 patch

Thanks, I have one myself. But after installing the addons via origin, it ignored the not-update-on-it's-own-launcher-thing... :-(

Then just make sure you check off origin not to update the sims 3. Uninstall the base game. Use CC cleaner to clean your registry to remove any leftover sims 3 base game files. Reinstall your disc and manually patch to 1.67

PS pull your sims 3 file in documents to desktop before you do this. You can then delete the new sims 3 file you created and replace it with the old one you saved at desktop

Yes OP, I wholeheartedly agree. Not that I'm a big fan of the launcher, but I dislike to depend on an online service to play my game. On top of that I don't need what they had to offer in that update. If it would have been bug fixes that would have been something else, but this feature feels like a bad excuse really.

I got my TS3 game in Feb. 2013, so I HAVE TO use Origin. I hate that Origin part as well. I always forget to X it out from the task tray, and when I go to turn my pc off, it basically says how a program was left running. Go back and close or Shut down any way. I wish Origin turned off by itself so I wouldn't get that message - not that it really matters. I always close my windows any way.

I guess it was the horror of the 1.63 update, that made me turn my "Auto-Update My Games" feature off. I won't speak of the 1.63 update - too many bad memories! :scream:

Now to do this, Here's how to deactivate "Auto-Update" on the Origin side:
    Open Origin
Go to the top left corner and click on "Origin"
Click on "Application Settings" (it's the 5th option from the bottom)
    Scroll down to "Updates"
Uncheck the "Automatically keep my games up to date" box
Also, make sure to check the "Ignore non-mandatory game updates" box
Now, you Should be able to reinstall from your disk without Origin "cutting in" with the update.
Finally, go to your "Sims3" game (as if you're about to play) and press the "X" on the "Update is Available" bar
Top blue bar will go away and should not come back
Once you got your game launcher - go ahead and uncheck that "Auto-Update" box on the launcher (just an added precaution)

NOW, the only down-side to this is, ALL your store items (worlds, venues, sets, etc) won't work because your game is now out-dated. :rage: The ONLY way you'll get them working again is to update! :rage::rage:

Don't know why they felt the game needed "updating" when it worked fine before. I guess they want to remind you that they've got you "over a barrel" if you want to play your own games. :rage::rage::rage:

    Hope this helps.

THAT ^^^ in a nutshell is why I want to break my contact with Origin! I still play computer games from years ago and always want to be able to play with what I bought.

It seriously is a great idea, people get very possessive of their Sims so having several backups "just incase" makes perfect sense to me. I'm buying double of all the EPs too!

Im not going to by doubles of all eps just ITF and the base game . Base game for no origin. Since you play with last disc issued which would be ITF, if you have the whole game on disc , ITF disc would be the most used. ITF has more potential to get damaged over time. The other discs your just using to install and put away. I just bought KP's showtime because it was cheaper than regular show time on disc. Bought Supernatural on disc and need a few more. I have 1/2 the game on download only so I still need some more discs for future keeping.

That's true, ITF is the one that is in my laptop constantly, the others are shelfsitters. I think I'm one of the few that actually likes the KP EP, I saw it with Showtime but already own Showtime by itself (and wasn't buying doubles at that point) so I bought it by itself. I have all discs, downloads freak me out for some reason though I used to have a Big Fish account and had a bunch of digital downloads. Wonder if I could reactivate that account, Fairy Godmother Tycoon and Grimm's Hatchery were two of my favorite games.
