LAPTOP USERS - UPDATE Your Card Assignment For 64bit

«13
Hey all, if you have a laptop with dual graphics like intel /nvidia or intel /amd and are running the game on the new 64 bit platform you will need to update your card assignment to have the dedicated card run the new version of the game.

the steps are the same as when you first assigned for nvidia or amd card when the game was a 32 bit. see

Just wanted to add this screenshot in:
    gq0NkQM.png

For anyone with a fps drop, make sure you pick the file that is ts4_x64.exe to add to your Nvidia Control Panel and using high performance Nvidia processor.
    Same for AMD cards.

hey @CoffeeBeanPopcorn at least for AMD dual step ups there is no global setting in the CCC that im aware of and this is intended for good reasons. the global setting for dual graphic is for everything to run with the intel chip. this way my gaming card doesnt stay hot and active when im merely running simple tasks. intel chip is more than capable of running normal programs and my card doesnt get overworked thus prolonging its lifespan

the only way i know how to globally change this is to disable intel and at least with my amd gaming laptop this renders the system inoperable.

Not anything that isn't explained by the age of my toaster. I got this hp when 3 came out. It still plays 2, 3, and 4 so I am going use till it dies.

I'd rather not. I would rather use my intel chip to run for internet browsers, videos, etc and reserve my Nvidia card for The Sims 4 or heavier programs.

I had this EXACT same problem today. I haven't played the sims in weeks, logged on today and the game kept crashing when I tried to start it. I reinstalled the game twice, removed all custom content, even deleted the entire folder and reinstalled the game from scratch. Nothing worked.
THANK YOU for passing along this thread. It saved me from putting the game down again for months (again)

I take that back. it still has the same issue.. deleted origin and the sims.. reinstalled all.. ran ccleaner.. tried it in 32 bit version.. tried running as administrator.. no mods.. still crashes on startup

I wouldn't suggest that. That's going to hugely reduce battery life on a laptop, and will generate more heat than needed most of the time, which will reduce the lifespan of virtually every component in the laptop. There's a reason the newer NVIDIA laptops toggle between the concrete and discrete cards, and when it's working properly it's a large benefit over the way laptops performed pre-Optimus.

Well, my game isn't working right at all now. I uninstalled/reinstalled and it was running okay (except for no custom music), but it didn't last long. My Sims are standing around looking lost and aren't following commands. The queues are ignored and instead they use the toilet or eat when those needs are still waay into the green. I wish there were an option to retract the patch. I was much happier prior. I'm still looking around for any new information. Maybe another patch to fix the last one? I used to love Simming. Now I"m just frustrated and sad. Oh well, I guess it's not the end of the world, except for my poor Sims.

Check your mod and cc files. Patch broke a lot... more than usual. To be expected with G2G coming.

@egwarhammer Thank you for trying to help. I don't have mods, but have custom music folders...I'm sure you've heard about no custom music showing up on playlists in game. I'm going to try repairing game and/or replacing the save file, etc...when I have the energy. I'm exhausted from trying to fix the game. NO fun.

hey @Lindsmd113 are you confident your system has a nvidia card as well as an intel then? did you set up a nvidia card to run the game before and if so have you run the game yet with the 64 bit?
  • Lindsmd113Lindsmd113 Posts: 196 Member
I have no idea about the card. I'm kinda a computer newbie. I've played in 64 bit before installing GT and it worked fine. Now with GT its really laggy

ok :) you can post your specs for me to confirm you dont have the option because you dont have a nvidia card. you can also simply switch back to 32 bit and see if that helps any

how to post hit windows key + R enter dxdiag run report hit save all info and notepad doc will open copy/paste the whole long report here

    and how to switch back:
How do I run the 32-bit version of The Sims 4?
If you are on a 64-bit version of Windows and would like to run the 32-bit version of The Sims 4, do the following:

Right click on The Sims 4 tile in Origin.
    Select “Game Properties”
Change the “When launching this Game” setting to “The Sims 4 32-bit”

    http://forums.thesims.com/en_US/discussion/861799/64-bit-faq#latest

though i will say if you have anything in your mods folder i would pull that out first and test again.
