I like the first picture. But in general, I like the "cartoony" art style of TS4. I've never been into that super-real look of some console games. But that's just me.
Yeah I may be the only person who is very happy with the look of the Sims in Sims 4. I like the fact they look kinda unique since we can already see these guys in existing game but with Sims 4 if I see them I already where they are from.
Those designs look like characters though, not actual people.
That's what you have to be careful of with The Sims. The Sims you make have to resemble actual people, not look like too much of a fantasy character design.
I don't mind the art style in TS4. It's the other things that frustrate me. But as for your pictures, they're all pretty cool looking. My personal favorite is the updated one of the TS3 sim in the red turtleneck, tan shorts & thigh-high boots. If TS5 sims looked like that, I'd be very happy.
If there is a Sims 5 and they go with the cartoonish route again, I just hope they choose something that looks less like Pixar! I love Pixar, but their style is suited for movies, not games!
But I really hope they go with similar more similar to Sims 3. Not photo-realistic or hyper-realistic. Just smoother and not cartoonish!
While the OP's photos are beautiful, I like the way the sims look in TS4. To me personally, it would feel odd playing characters that look too real. Too close to home I guess and like someone else said, it would be weird when bad things happen like them dying, etc.
~Chihuahua Momma~ Sims fan since day one with TS1!!!
They look pretty in still pictures, but I think with actual animation and facial expressions of the Sims it would go into uncanny valley territory.
Plus, those are 3d renders and not part of actual games. None of the current big graphics intensive games out/coming out soon have graphics anywhere close to this. The lighting, textures, and meshes and such look much more high quality than even the new Tomb Raider game coming out next month, for example, because they're still renders with highly controlled high quality assets that video games have yet to reach.
I honestly wouldn't mind Sims 4's graphics so much if they didn't give me a headache! I have never had a game's graphics give me a headache before I played Sims 4.
I like what Sims 4 looks like, so I'll have to disagree with your post. I don't want super realistic for a game like this; maybe sharper detail and something like what we had in Sims Medieval.
And a well made open world. I hate what the closed world backdrops look like. Just sayin'.
now that i hate what they've done with the sims 4, maybe they can learn and improve the sims 5 (if there is one)
Or maybe this... It wont be too realistic, but just enough.
now thats my personal opinion. whats yours? post a pic.
I actually saw the second pic ehen they announced ts4, a lot of ppl thought it was gonna be like that. Imagine my dissapointment when i saw the actual sims
Please no. I don't understand why everything needs to be ultra realistic looking these days. The style of the sims is unique and that's the way they should stay.

he's daddy af! my sims need a baby daddy like that. so do I tbh

I don't wanna feel like I'm watching Someone ... or it will be hard to kill them in game.
I don't mind some cartoonish style- it's the quality of the details and the game play that makes or breaks a game for me.

Wait.
I thought she hated divination.
That's kind of what my CC TS4 sims look like...
...until they step out of CAS.
These are what my sims looked like when I first got the game...
These are what they are like now.

Olivia is stunning.
I have a bunch of links to hair in my TS4 thread.
You can check the creators for other hair styles that I don't have listed.

I'm very picky about those.
I don't like the ones that look dried out, or blistery, so I really have to dig through their collections.
More culturally diverse Sims like this:
Sims and lighting and shadow and texture like this:
Basically I want somewhere in between the Sims 2/Sims 4 cartoon look and the Sims 3/Medieval realistic look.
But of course a Tim Burton inspired look could be an interesting change too.
