empty homes?

in this game does the game auto populate & fill the empty homes? or do i have to manually add sims & move them into a home?

No. There's no Story Progression in The Sims 2. It's time to add and live their life manually. Only your household ages (At home), only your household have babies and die by old age, only your household get's career and get promotions and demotions.
The Sims 3 have Story Progression and it's new there. The Sims 2: No, And I actually like that.
You can never discover The Sims games 100%. Even when you think you know everything, the game manages to surprise you.
That's why I do experiments in the game from time to time and tutorial videos on YouTube.

Relationships might change for sims while they are non-playable visitors.
