I couldn't find any info on this via Google, so for anyone who is trying to do the same thing, I thought I'd share how I figured out how to move my entire house to a new lot.
So I started out with a household with my mind set on not using any cheats (way more fun than expected!). I started on the Bargain Bend lot as it is a cheap one and didn't have a lot of money. As my Sims progressed in their careers and became more and more wealthy I eventually built a house I wouldn't mind actually living in in real life. However, once the family started to expand, I found myself short on room to accommodate for the latest family additions.
I wasn't keen at all to move to a different lot and build a new house as I was really proud and happy with my current one, I wanted to move my house to a larger lot so I could expand it. Here's how I did it:
- Save the house in My Library (build mode, top of screen); - Make sure that all items crafted or improved by your Sims (paintings, improved furniture, etc) are added to the Sim's or the household inventory (crafted items won't be saved with the house, and furniture that had been improved will lose their improvements upon moving); - Go to Manage World, choose a bigger lot (doesn't have to be an empty one, but if there's a house currently built there it will be replaced), and click Build; - Go to Gallery, and select your house in My Library, then place the furnished house (button in lower right hand corner of the house details window); - Go back to Manage World, select your household, choose Move, and move them without their furniture to your house on the bigger lot; - (Optional) I found it a bit odd to have two identical houses in the same world, so I went to the old lot and replaced the house / lot with an other one from the community gallery; - Load your household who now live on the bigger lot, place the crafted items from your inventory back to where they belong, and replace the standard furniture with the improved ones; - Remember to save!
" - Make sure that all items crafted or improved by your Sims (paintings, improved furniture, etc) are added to the Sim's or the household inventory (crafted items won't be saved with the house, and furniture that had been improved will lose their improvements upon moving) "
By "improved furniture" are you referring to upgrading electronics, plumbing, etc? Or is "improved furniture" something else?
Fabulous! Exactly what I was looking for.....love my house but wanted a bigger lot! Thank you for taking the time to help those of us that aren't as savvy.
This was very helpful and it was easy to do. It makes perfect sense. My daughter wanted to move her house to a larger lot as the lot had not yard. Thank you for sharing. :) Now I can also do the same with some of my sims houses.
I'm using a Xbox 360. Is there another way to do this with my station instead of a computer ??? I can't find anything on google but if anyone can find something can you send me a link!!!

I found that if you save a house with a family into the Family Bin, they will lose their connections/relationships to everyone else in the town. They'll keep all rewards/promotions/skills, etc. but it clears on the relationships. Just go to world editor and look for/place a lot that is the size you want, then click the little hand icon that says 'move'. You simply place your current lot into a larger lot. Be sure to put it ON the lot where you want it, and you can do that by the arrows on the bottom right.
It says that I "cannot place Lot in this game mode" I did everything you said and I dont know what I did wrong.
Hello @BluePanda880913
Welcome to the forums!
You need to load your save game file first, then go to the Gallery. You will be able to then place the lot.
hi all. sorry to (sort of) resurrect a thread, but this is the closest i found to what i want to do. i'm also sorry if such a question has already been asked.
i have a house which i want to move to a lot that already has one but with some space left. i assume i can't place the house directly, as it would replace the one that's already there, right? (i have brain fog). is there a way to "add" it to the lot, without it touching the original one?
i don't understand what i need to do, if this can even be achieved. as you can imagine by now, i've never built any houses, ever since i started playing TS4 (never did in TS3, either)... so my building skills are at less than zero.

Hello @fewlines
You are unable to add a house to a lot, without it replacing the one that is already there. You can though add rooms to a house that is already there, so you could save rooms of the first house to your library and place the rooms on the lot with the other house.
great! i'd forgotten that it was possible to save separate rooms. thank you.
i can try to add everything, room by room. if i can't, i'm going to end up with more than a few houses to move around the map, to get things right. XD
Very usefull, thank you. Now I have my house on another bigger lot how can I ’delete’ the one I moved out of? Still standing there available at the moment and the map/town looks silly to have 2 identical house on.

Hello @shatinn Welcome to the forums!
You can go into build mode on the lot, and bulldoze the lot.

Make sure you are in build mode, and not in live mode before going into the gallery/library to place your home.
That's the only time I get this error, and I get it quite a bit, because I forget I am still in live mode
