The Get To Work Experience

I just tried Get To Work..

.... being detective seemed a bit disappointing especially with the short time span and that arduous...
select "Fingerprint Suspect"
stands there with the criminal...
45 minutes later of standing...
fingerprint action.
select "Take Mugshot"
stands there with criminal...
49 minutes later of standing still...
take mugshot action
"YOU HAVE DONE YOUR WORK FOR THE DAY, TIME TO GO HOME NOW"
=="

I cant stay at work and do overtime and make the office my second home by sleeping on a chair by a desk?
!?

Try retail...

...hire person.
opens shop
person hired came in... as a customer.
had to fight gloriously to accommodate every customer singlehandedly.
next day...
worker comes in
set duties to answer question
ended up doing all the work and she was on her handphone half the time

....

basically before i sell the shop in day 5
i spent most of my time yelling, criticizing and getting mad at my employee
while doing all the work.
and she goes "oh looks like job is done for the day, i should go home now"
and im like "YOU USELESS SON OF A Llaama!!! DO YOUR JOB OR I'LL MAKE SURE YOU WONT GET A JOB EVER IN THESE 3 WORLDS RELEASED THUS FAR!"

....but whats even more crazy is, I hired her as an elder
and in day 4 she came in as an "adult"
and now she remains in my game as an adult

@_@

WHATS GOING ON!?

Yes you can stay late, just click on that clock-like icon to the right of the advancement bar in the upper left corner. The detective career does move a lot faster as you progress through it, but yes, it is kind of repetitive, Try the science career, it's my favorite. If nothing else, you have several collectibles to sell at the end of the day, and a chance to go into space.

Fortunately my employee rings people up since after the patch. He's getting paid $40+ an hour. I have not played the detective, but I like the scientist career. After reaching the top, things become repetitive so I now have him clone serums for his wife to sell in her store. LoL you can make pretty good money from them. Oh, she sells stuff they harvest on Sixam too. More good money. I pretend it's like a black market kind of thing.

I'd think it would be hard to do retail with one sim.

    The doctor's career is fine.

I heard you can clone sims.
It has quite the story potential.

Interesting post! I really love GTW... I wish we had more active careers.

I find the detective career horribly repetitive after a while. The retail aspect is a pain in the bottom. I enjoy it somewhat, but employees seem to be more of a hindrance than a help. I would love for EA to add in more active careers in future EPs. Not sure that'll happen though.

I haven't gotten that fire in the career yet, but mine can freeze her coworkers with the simray.

@Dariu LMAO your posts are so funny. I'm always dying when I see your threads. Okay back on topic.
The employees are lazy pieces of poo. Even with this last patch. It was suppose to remedy the issue with this but my employees still dont ring up costumers and rather play Blicblock on their phones than work. I just gave up on the retail side because my business was getting more customers and it became overwhelming for me. The only way to do it right I think is to have other members of your family help out. I had my main sim's elderly mother and 2 of their childern (teens) helping out at my electronic store.

The detective career is really boring for me too. Very repetitive. I was so disappointed because I was really looking forward to this active career. I made a bunch of "tough" looking sims to potentially be spawned as "criminals" or "inmates". Instead they were culled and I had cells full of grandmas and grandpas in my police station. >_>.

But on a good note you can download the Get To School mod now that you have GTW. I'm having a lot fun with it making stories of HS drama. C : sorry your disappointed with the game too.

Detective career is cool imo, but I aways extend the work hour days clicking on the green thing, then is enough. There is a mod also to make day 12 hours

That's disappointing to hear though as detective was something I thought could be fun if I ever got the game

It's what you make of it. Forgive me, I don't want to seem like a Negatron >_> I guess I just lose interest in things if they're not what I exactly anticipated. You may have a different experience than me. C:

sounds annoying.. i play only the doc carreer now and most of time it goes well and it is a lot of fun. I just noticed some faults like

    = the same patients
= a good doctor with a lot of insight still makes stupid mistakes at work
= when giving the diagnose i have to choose between 3 or 4 diseases when i actually should have just two left but the option never came
= when a patient passes out they just stand up and walk to the operation table (weird and lazy for new gameplay?)
= my colleagues change their function all the time whenever i get a promotion. Its like u cant have two medical specialists in the hospital? so the other one needs to give up his function to become a receptionist? thats a bit tacky. Just bring in new colleagues and only change their function if they got a promotion. Even one sims that lives in another household but one i play with sometimes changes his function every workday when i gave him a certain level of the career. the game does what it wants!
= colleagues dont do a lot. why cant a doc who has a lower level not take the patients from the front desk at a certain point of the career. I think when u become at level 8 u shouldnt have to do that anymore. If thise care takers can clean of mess, why cant they do that?
= sometimes options are blanked out and that happens whenever another patient left and has nothing to do with a patient that just arrived. All of them become untouchable.

I've also experienced that with the detective career. It takes them FOREVER to actually do anything!! The interactions lag and drag themselves out so much it's annoying.
Most cases take me 2 or 3 days to solve just because of this, even if I stay late everyday (which I do). If things went much quicker, I could probably do a case a day.

Also, has anyone else noticed that the police station is in desperate need of more computers??
It seems like the five or so computers it has are always occupied by other employees. It seems to happen even more whenever my tasks involve things that need a computer. facepalm

I also can relate to what @meeoun said about the jail being filled with grandmas and grandpas. It seems like every person I arrest is an elder, hahaha!! :p

i think its a shout out to real life as to how police stations are usually underquipped... which begs to question where does the money actually go? > .>

they probably spent it more on food.
    but then again...

I come from a 3rd world country which to be promoted in the police career.
    you need money.
to become a police chief you would need literally AT MINIMUM Rp. 30,000,000,000 (divide it by 13,200 for US currency estimate)
to just have your name in the ballot pool of potential candidates.
which shows how badly corruption is here.

U.S. police aren't that great either in the end. Getting worse everyday...

I don't like how the detective career "recycles" the same items from the scientist career.
I rather they made them at least look different.
    :(

I do like the freeze ray gun, and love the cloning machine to make money w/out using money cheats.
(clone potions, etc, to sell - makes more money than going to job!)

I hate the game glitches for time leaving work, but I can't figure out what started it, cuz I didn't have it at first,
and maybe it's connected to Origin? Origin no longer gives correct info for last time played.
(played in April, yet it stated a day in February)

Doesn't the detective career let you edit the place at work, so you can add more PC's, or whatever you want?
I know the scientist career place can be changed, somewhat, w/ no cheat/codes used.

I haven't tried retail yet. Sims going to their job, leaves no time left to run a business. :s
(but I eventually want to try some stuff, esp a coffee cafe, and a mall.)

they advertise the game better than they add content.
