TS2 everything gone

I built a new computer so I made sure to save my Sims 2 folder. I'm just now getting around to replacing the folder with the one I had saved. The game loads like it's the first time starting up.. My families and CC are not there. I checked to see that I switched out the folders correctly and all my stuff is in folder so it should work. I'm so confused and sad. All my stuff gone. :'(

Are you using the Sims 2 Ultimate Collection?

If so, what's the name of the Sims 2 folder you're trying to get to show up exactly?

Just The Sims 2? Or The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection? Or something else?
  • SimplyJenSimplyJen Posts: 14,828 Member
The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection and that is the folder name.

Did you put the back up in the correct EA Games folder?
  • SimplyJenSimplyJen Posts: 14,828 Member
Yup only one place for it to go and I even removed the folder first to make sure it was the right one. The play button will change to download if the right folder is removed. After that I restored it from the trash bin. Download button turned back to play as it should. Then I replaced it with my backup. Launched the game and it loaded just fine except for my saves and CC not showing up. Opened up the folder and I can see my stuff is there so it should be showing in game.

Can you make a new neighborhood at all? I know there was a reported problem with neighborhoods not showing up and people not being able to make any new ones (no .sc4 files to pull from at all).

And did you delete the usual .cache files just in case they're causing issues? groups.cache comes to mind. And maybe try pulling the NeighborhoodManager.package file in the Neighborhoods folder as well and see if that helps with the neighborhood issue. I believe it's a safe file to delete, but keep a back up just in case.

I can make a new neighborhood and I did delete the cache files. Tomorrow I will uninstall and instead this time only copy over the folders I need instead of the whole folder.

I think your problem is too complicated for me to be of much help and I'm sorry if this suggestion sounds insulting, but did you remember to enable CC?

enable CC? I don't remember doing that last time. I'm not really sure what you mean by that. It's been a while.

I haven't played for a while either but, from memory, before you get to the neighbourhood screen there will be a large pop-up with an option at the bottom to check a box in order to enable CC.

ohh ok I will look for that next time I fuss with it. Today I just don't have the sanity to. That must not be the only problem since I was playing the Dreamers and now they are reset as if I never played them. Thanks for help guys. This thread was more of a whine but the help is much appreciated.

I have no clue why but my backup folder is named The Sims™ 2 Ultimate Collection and the folder that installed to this computer is called The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection. Does anyone know if it matters that the old computer was Windows 7? Could that change something?

That might make a difference. Worth a shot trying. Nothing to lose if you make a back up of the back up before permanently changing the original back up.
  • SimplyJenSimplyJen Posts: 14,828 Member
I did change the name before and the game launched but of course, my stuff did not show up. Pretty much giving up at this point. :p

One other thing you can try. Create a bunch of new folders in your Neighborhood folder N### up to the one right before one you want. Then load up the game and make a new neighborhood. Then exit the game. Delete the contents of the new neighborhood, put your back up N### guts in and delete the NeighborhoodManager.package.

    Then load up the game.

As for your CC, is the folder with it named "Downloads" or "downloads"?

I would just replace folders within the documents folders, like replace the neighborhoods in the new Documents folder with yours etc. The whole folder. I would copy and paste the Downloads folder over, I would copy and paste Saved Sims over, etc. The tm is probably why. It seems to cause trouble with registries or something if I remember correctly. So whatever folder it automatically creates when you run the game, like I said, go in and replace the folders with your old documents folder individually. Either that or try this, copy the name from your new folder and copy it over to your old folder, so that it doesn't have the tm in it, and see if it accepts it that way. At least I am understanding the new folder doesn't have the tm? So you will have to remove it from your old copy to get the game to recognize the old one most likely.

She did that and they didn't show up. So there's something about her folder that the game on her new computer doesn't like. Hence just moving over what's needed.

oh sorry, missed that! Just move over the stuff inside then?

Yeah I tried all of that. I'm just giving up at this point. Thank you both for trying to help. :)

I have one more question if anyone knows. Can you organize CC (subfolders) with the Ultimate Collection?

Yes you can :) I have like 40 different folders (with folders inside those, too!) lol, I'm completely crazy when it comes to organizing. -sometimes- there will be certain mods that state to keep it out of subfolders because they may not work.

Were you moving from one operating system to another by any chance? Just wondering.

    Hi Simasurus09,
How did you make out did you get your cc up and running? I love how you did your own computer build that is awesome. When I first read your post I thought the same as Ratsrbest. To use the game options and bulls eye the custom content option. That can be found in game options, The third one over that looks like a gear. Then in the top middle of the page it is "Catalog display custom content." Hit the bulls for on.

I am sure you know that. I am hoping that it is not anything that can not be a quick fix. Maybe do all the other things like make it xp compatible and give it the admin rights. I do not know. I was just wondering if you got it up and running.

Here to hoping you did and you are back in the game and having fun. :)

Hello winterloc :) Thanks for stopping by.

No I did not get it back. CC was enabled when I checked but it wasn't so much about the CC.. I'm pretty sad about losing my Dreamer save. I think it has something to do with switching over from Windows 7 to 8.1

    Oh Simasaurus09,
Sorry to hear that. I think you are right could be something with windows 8.1. My hubby has it on his lappy. I really get very frustrated with that operating system. I like widows 7. I am waiting for windows 10 to come out. I am just concerned about my old sims games if they will work on that. I just thank my lucky stars that window 7 works with the games. However I am really glad to know that windows 8.1 will work with all the Sims games.

Once upon at time I too lost all my Sims game saves when I installed window 7 on my computer. I lost 4 years worth of playing. Everything and I have never got it back to where it was. Someday maybe.

Well maybe you will figure it out. :) As long as you can still play the game and have fun with it. :)

Nice chatting with you and hope all ends well for your Dreamers.
    Your Simmy friend,
    Winterloc

Windows 8.1 is not as confusing like I thought it was going to be. I too can't wait for 10. Let's hope all the sim games works on that.

Ouch! That really stinks losing 4 yrs worth.. Nice talking to you too. :)
