The Sims 4 Moments Challenge

ZerbuZerbu Posts: 3,457 Member
About two months ago, I created the Absolute Master challenge. Today, I bring you a new challenge: The Sims 4 Moments Challenge.

The Absolute Master Challenge had two main purposes: to make the game less repetitive, and to encourage players to try features they wouldn't usually try.

However, Absolute Master was focused more on long-term gameplay. The Sims 4 Moments Challenge applies rules to short-term gameplay to prevent it being repetitive, and ensuring you have as few "I can't decide what to do" moments as possible. You can absolutely combine this challenge with Absolute Master if you want.

Note: This challenge is still being worked on, and significant changes may be made over time.

Punishments
There are two types of punishments: Soft and Hard. Whenever you fail to complete one of the challenge requirements, you must use a randomization tool, preferable random.org, to roll a punishment from the appropriate category. You must then perform the punishment in game. If you fail to complete the punishment, you must roll another of the same level.

I am still working on the punishments. Feel free to post suggestions if you have any!

Soft Punishments
8-hour Toilet Ban
Jerk Moment
Stuck at Home
Work Ban
§1,000 Fine

8-hour Toilet Ban - The Sim may not use the toilet for 8 hours.
Jerk Moment - The Sim must spend 4 hours using Mean interactions on other Sims on the lot, and may not even stop to tend to their needs. If there are no other Sims on the lot, the Sim must go to another lot. Going to another lot is not allowed when there are other Sims available. The interactions can be performed on any Sim, including a random stranger.
Stuck at Home - The Sim may not leave their home lot for 12 hours, except for work or school. If they are already on a community lot, they must go straight home.
Work Ban - The Sim is banned from work or school within 12 hours of getting the punishment.
§1,000 Fine - The household must pay §1,000 using the "sims.modify_funds -1000" cheat. If the Sim does not have enough money, it will simply mean their money is reset to §0.

Hard Punishments
24-hour Toilet Ban
Angry Fall Out
Trapped
§10,000 Fine

24-hour Toilet Ban - The Sim may not use the toilet for 24 hours.
Angry Fall Out - The Sim must become enemies with one of their friends. If the Sim does not have any friends, they must become enemies with the acquaintance closest to being a friend. If the Sim does not know anybody, they must make enemies with a random stranger.
Trapped - The Sim must be trapped in a room for 24 hours, and may not ever leave, even to attend work or school.
§10,000 Fine -The household must pay §10,000 using the "sims.modify_funds -10000" cheat. If the Sim does not have enough money, it will simply mean their money is reset to §0.

Holiday/Vacationing

At times, the challenge calls for Sims to go on holiday/vacation. There are two ways you can do this:
  • If you have Outdoor Retreat installed, simply travel to Granite Falls as you normally would.
  • If you either don't have Outdoor Retreat installed, or would prefer a different kind of experience, you can stay at a hotel or similar kind of community lot. Each day you stay at the lot, use "sims.modify_funds -1000" to subtract §1,000 from the household funds. I haven't came up with a complex pricing structure yet, so that will do for now.

Global Rules
(These rules effect all Sims at all times)

Birthday parties are mandatory for all Sims when they age up. The punishment level is variable: not celebrating a Sim's birthday at all is a Hard punishment, celebrating it without a party is a Soft punishment.

Wedding parties are mandatory for all Sims who get married. (Punishment Level: Hard)

When two Sims get married, they must immediately go on holiday/vacation - see "Holiday/Vacationing" above for details. They must be together through the entire duration of the travel. (Punishment Level: Hard)

Emotional Relevance:
Sims may only perform interactions that match with their current emotion. Sims who are not Flirty are not allowed to flirt, Embarrassed Sims may not socialize, Sims who are not Playful or Confident may not tell jokes, Sims who are not Focused are not allowed to program, etc.

Generally, this rule requires your own judgement to enforce, so just do what you feel is appropriate.

Generic "practice" interactions, such as Practice Writing, are exempt from the rule, therefore making them less pointless (since you can use them at any time).

In case social interactions, rules don't apply if with a Sim who is "Good Friends" or above, so you may freely flirt with your partner or talk to a good friend while embarrassed.

Update: Since it can be annoying to constantly avoid "inappropriate" social interactions, I've relaxed the rule a bit: you can use any interaction that appears immediately after clicking on a Sim, regardless of whether it's appropriate for the emotion, but you must be in the right emotion to perform any interaction from the "More Choices" menu.

Interactions that have multiple emotional options (such as painting or crafting) are considered appropriate for all emotions.

Interactions needed for everyday life, such as cooking, are exempt from the rule.

Once a Sim has reached level 10 in a skill, they may freely perform any interaction related to that skill.

Autonomous interactions don't apply as they can be annoying to enforce.

In the event of a long-term interaction (such as working out or programming on a computer) your Sim may continue provided that they were in the desired emotion when they started the emotion. However, once they get off (either manually or autonomously) they may not go back into that interaction until they get back into the emotion.

This rule does not apply if it conflicts with a punishment.

A punishment must be applied every time you break this rule.

(Punishment Level: Soft)

World Rules

When starting a new game or moving to a new world, you are at first forbidden from living in any expensive neighbourhood, defined by whether the cost of a small lot is more than 2,500 simoleons. You must have lived in the world containing the neighbourhood for at least a generation before doing so. If you're not playing generation style, you can move to an expensive neighbourhood after ten Sim weeks. The waterfront neighbourhood in Newcrest (the one similar to the Goth neighbourhood) counts as "expensive" despite the lots being the price of a starter one (possibly due to an oversight by the developers). (Punishment Level: Hard)

Household Rules
These rules apply to every Sim in the household. If you fail one, you must randomly roll a Sim to punish before rolling the appropriate punishment.

All Sims in the household must become either Friends or Enemies with each other in the first week, no normal acquaintances. (Punishment Level: Soft)

Upon moving to a new lot, the Sim must throw a housewarming party within a Sim week, including when you first start the game. If combining this with the Legacy Challenge, or any other challenge that requires you to start off poor, the time you have is extended to two weeks. (Punishment Level: Hard)

Child Rules
Child Sims must make at least one friend every day, though they are free from this requirement once they have five friends. If you make two or more friends on one day, you can cancel the requirement for the appropriate number of following days. To avoid this getting irritating, this rule can be played in rotation: if you have two or more Child Sims in the household, you can rotate between them each Sim day. A punishment must be rolled each day you fail to make a new friend. (Punishment Level: Soft)

Child Sims must have at least one party dedicated to them, other than their birthday party. These may or may not be shared with other Child Sims in the household. (Punishment Level: Hard)

Child Sims must go on holiday/vacation at least once - see "Holiday/Vacationing" above for details. (Punishment Level: Hard)

Child Sims must have at least one day devoted to Sad activities. They must be in the Sad state for at least 12 hours, while also remembering the "Emotional Relevance" rule above. Accidentally getting out of the state for a few Sim minutes is forgivable and can be overlooked. (Punishment Level: Soft)

Child Sims must have at least one day devoted to Playful activities. They must be in the Playful state for at least 12 hours, while also remembering the "Emotional Relevance" rule above. Accidentally getting out of the state for a few Sim minutes is forgivable and can be overlooked. (Punishment Level: Soft)

For each grade below A the Child Sim has when they age up, a punishment must be rolled in succession. Sims with a B grade will get one punishment, Sims with a C will get two punishments, and so on. (Punishment Level: Hard)

Child Rules for Future Development

Aspirations are restricted by Child skills:

Sims must max out the Child Motor skill in order to take an Athletic aspiration.
Sims must max out the Child Creativity skill in order to take a Creativity aspiration.
Sims must max out the Child Motor skill in order to take a Deviance aspiration.
Sims must max out the Child Mental skill in order to take a Mental aspiration.
Sims must max out the Child Motor skill in order to take a Nature aspiration.
Sims must max out the Child Social skill in order to take a Popularity aspiration.

Family, Fortune and Love aspirations are fair game for all Sims.

You may still assign an aspiration the Sim is not qualified for provided that you're willing to go through with the punishment.

(Punishment Level: Hard)

Teens Sim must go to a community lot with at least five other teen Sims at one point in their life. (Punishment Level: Hard)

Teen Sims must go on holiday/vacation at least once, and must bring at least two other Teen Sims - see "Holiday/Vacationing" above for details. (Punishment Level: Hard)

Sims must have their first date as a Teen. (Punishment Level: Hard)

Sims must have their first kiss as a Teen. (Punishment Level: Soft)

Sims must have their first relationship (boyfriend/girlfriend) as a Teen. This does not have to be the Sim's future partner. (Punishment Level: Soft)

Teen Sims must have at least one day devoted to Sad activities. They must be in the Sad state for at least 12 hours, while also remembering the "Emotional Relevance" rule above. Accidentally getting out of the state for a few Sim minutes is forgivable and can be overlooked. (Punishment Level: Soft)

Teen Sims must have at least one day devoted to Angry activities. They must be in the Angry state for at least 12 hours, while also remembering the "Emotional Relevance" rule above. Accidentally getting out of the state for a few Sim minutes is forgivable and can be overlooked. (Punishment Level: Soft)

Teen Sims must have at least one day devoted to Flirty activities. They must be in the Flirty state for at least 12 hours, while also remembering the "Emotional Relevance" rule above. Accidentally getting out of the state for a few Sim minutes is forgivable and can be overlooked. (Punishment Level: Soft)

Teen Sims must have at least one day devoted to Confident activities. They must be in the Confident state for at least 12 hours, while also remembering the "Emotional Relevance" rule above. Accidentally getting out of the state for a few Sim minutes is forgivable and can be overlooked. (Punishment Level: Soft)

For each grade below A the Teen Sim has when they age up, a punishment must be rolled in succession. Sims with a B grade will get one punishment, Sims with a C will get two punishments, and so on. (Punishment Level: Hard)

Young Adult Rules

Young Adult Sims must get a career, and must keep that career for at least two Sim weeks. (Punishment Level: Hard)

Young Adult Sims must have at least five dates. These can be with either the same Sim or different Sims. (Punishment Level: Hard)

Young Adult Sims must have at least one party dedicated to them, other than their birthday party. These may not be shared with other Young Adult Sims in the household. (Punishment Level: Hard)

Retail Rules

Any retail lot you own must be worth at least 15,000 simoleons in price and contain a bathroom before you're allowed to sell anything. (Punishment Level: Hard)
