This article intrigued me by questioning the motives behind the free trail of the game. This is all just speculation at the end but intriguing none the less.
As much as EA Games and their subsidiary, Maxis, are trying to do damage control for The Sims 4, the fact is that fans have been increasingly disillusioned with the lack of content available at launch, going so far as to compile lists of features available in previous games, but missing from The Sims 4. The biggest missing feature so far is the tiny toddler life stage.
The trial offer and the recent announcement that Maxis is searching for a new Creative Director may mean that EA Games is finally ready to admit that The Sims 4 is as big of a disappointment as some fans have said.

A new article seems to support these claims

The publisher also confirmed today that another expansion for The Sims 4 has also been delayed to sometime in fiscal 2016. EA did not provide any further details about the expansion.
EA is currently holding a earnings call discussing these results and answering analyst and media questions. Check back soon for more.
What do you think? Is EA giving up on Sims 4? Is the trail a last attempt to gain an audience for the game? Sims 4 has yet to have a expansion pack announcement and we are closing in on 5 months after release.
Special thanks

In case anyone is interested.
Why haven't we heard of a expansion...hmmm.
Oh and EA, when hiring your next Creative Director....try to get someone with talent, and someone who actually loves to make good games, and who doesn't have his head up his "plum".
Awe and thanks for special thanks Bon! I feel so special!
I really love the game, despite it's faults. But for me, just this
tweet alone screams "desperation".
I must be terrible at google searching because I can only find the guy that left in 2013 after Simscity failed miserably

Anyway, it doesn't mean Sims 4 is flop. It's not as successful as they wanted it to be otherwise we'd see some numbers.

However, Sims 4 has constantly been on sales, shops still having old stock that just isn't selling.

I find it amusing that the article mentions toddlers, considering it seemed like EA was laughing at everyone for complaining they weren't in there and OH WAIT, people really DO WANT toddlers in the game! Imagine that. Anyway... This article just points out what a lot of Simmers have been saying, and it looks like EA is finally realising it.
Ray left in February of 2014, they have been operating without a creative director for almost a year?!
I went to my local Wal Mart and they were sold out of the game.
The sales are pretty normal especially since two were for Black Friday and after black friday online Monday sales. The first sale was right after the initial new game launch period, which I have seen other new games do too without people saying it's a flop. Sims 3 was also constantly in stock in stores, I got sims 3 collection edition in best buy a week after the launch. There were still several copies on the shelf.
edited: Won't let me say a non-bad word lol so explained the long way.
I say to heck with 🐸🐸🐸🐸 and move onto TS5. Focus what made this franchise great. Bring back CASt, the open world, and give us graphics that don't make us facepalm in 2015. It's time to give this franchise a proper follow-up sequel, because 🐸🐸🐸🐸 is not it and never will be it. The damage is done. Scrap it and move on.

Oooh I can feel how desperate he is from my computer...
If the Sims 4 isn't successful, then there won't be a Sims 5... Ever.
And you can say bye to all of Maxis, because they would be shut down and lose all their jobs - and the forum will be shut down.
