Why pokemon? They're cute, ridiculous, funny, pretty, etc, and there's a wide range of diversity.

You guys are srsly making me consider playing pokemon again I'm too old for this
You'd be surprised how young it practically keeps you. I stopped playing due to not ever getting a DS, but had to jump back in because I made a promise to myself as a kid that "I'm so playing the Platinum version after it comes out after Gold and Silver." Little did I expect Crystal version would come out instead, while Platinum followed Diamond and Pearl. Guess Game Freak switched it up on me. Still I don't even regret getting it (as I look at the new little plush Giratina I have sitting atop my desk.)
Oh, and Cauli is obviously the Sunglasses Squirtle!

had all gsc on my gameboy colour. Silver and Gold was my childhood but then Crystal came along and vroosh there goes my virginity sorta not rly...
skipped ruby and sapphire but got emerald
came back for pearl. Remember skipping school that day with some buds to get it because: Reasons
heartgold but never finished
then got white but never finished
then too old and broke to buy a 3DS :<
still do shoddy battles from time to time but man it gets harder when your real life friends are busy drinking instead of playing <_<
