More to the game then what I thought,
Well put together,updated,more useful items,
Things don't like
Very stripped down game thus far,
No weather(EP's not out yet)
No cars or trucks,
Basically have to start from scratch with all the EP's spending hundreds of $$
All in all the game is more then what I expected yet lacks depth thus far.
Things I like:
I'm having a lot of fun. I can't wait to see what is to come. The biggest issue for me is that I need an NRASS Relativity style mod. This would alleviate the "spending too much time chasing emotions" complaint. If the days lasted a little bit longer I would be so much happier because I'd be able to experience life outside my house. If I had a single sim it wouldn't be such an issue.. but with a family having such crazy different schedules I can't really take family trips or do things with sims simultaneously without missing work the next day or whatever.
Overall.. I'm having a blast. Thank you.
-The map is way to small only 26 lots is too small, when the sims 3 had over 100+ lots and only 4 families when you in a new world and not to many community lots.
-No cars, no school bus, no work car.
-No edit town.
- Too many loading screen for every lot I was thinking it would only be for when you are going to neighbourhoods like sims 3 on console.
- No pools.
- Teens being the same size of adults making hard to tell who are teens.
- No terrain tools.
Things I like:
- How towns all work together.
- CAS.
- The gallery.
-Chatting in a group.
-Multitasking.
Edit: miss family trees.
Thank you first for opening this thread so we can share ideas and opinions!
What I liked : I liked everything! I was worried at first, but as soon as I started playing, I was pleased by this gameplay. It's like everything was simplyfied so we can concentrate on what our sims want. The graphics are lovely, the animations are crazy fun! I never liked building houses like I did in the sims 4! And the gallery is maybe the best thing you created so fare to help players share their créations! The emotion system is very nice, because I felt that my sims were more influenced by what is happening around them and the multitasking is quite surprising! I sincerly think this is going to push the sims somewhere else in the future.
What I didn't like : I'm so happy that it's hard to say. Maybe some so little glitches that it's not worth telling them. I would have liked more lots to build. I hope unplayed sims will be able to find jobs and get babies on their own soon.
Suggestions : I really like the wolrd concept. I hope that the expansion packs that will come will use this. In the sims 3, when there was an expansion pack, you had to change town to get the full experience of the new features. The original town did not adapt to it. For exemple, if you played with Sunset Valley and bought the Island paradise expansion, you had to move your household to the new town so you could played with the islands. Now, I feel that the world system will permit our household to get all from the new features of the expansions pack but while they live in the same neighbourhood! So, that's my suggestion.
Overall thoughts : People who thought this game would be bad are wrong. I personnaly enjoyed it a lot so far! I see the possibilities of the new concept and I'm having a lot of fun! It's sure that I felt destabilized at first with the new build mode, the new camera, the needs and the emotions! It's new and it's fresh! Thank you for making this game so fun!

Things I've enjoyed:
-Not having to switch between build and buy modes. It makes it simple to quickly throw in a dining room table to see if I need to adjust the size of the room or window placement.
-The build tools. While there are some glitches (building out wall nooks, it doesn't register as the room when placing floor or paint) I have been waiting to move whole rooms for as long as I can remember. I'm looking to building my own house in "real life" and so it's been a fun tool to pick up rooms and move them around to find a good floor plan that I like.
-Height options- Good and Bad- I love that I can select different sizes for my walls however I hate that it limits my door and window choices. I wish all door and windows were adjustable.
-Emotions- While I have played the game for over 10 hours tonight and only the last half hour was played in live mode, I love the role playing aspect of the game which is why I play it. I create very in depth back stories to my characters and the emotions really help me bring them to life.
-Create a Sim functions- One.word.Awesome However I feel like clothing is VERY limited. My only other complaint is that for necklaces and earrings, you have to switch from clothes to the head and then select accessories again. Also when certain clothing items are selected, it limits the accessory options like tights and what not. But the actual push and pull features are beyond words.
MULTITASKING- Hallelujah
Detail- The detail is amazing. Rugs actually have trim and things look very real. The decor is awesome. I actually want to live in my kitchen.
Things that I've disliked-
-No Camera control- You can't change the camera angle other than birds eye view or a very weird top angle. HATE IT!!! The most frustrating part.
-Buy mode- I hate the drop down list for functions. I don't know why they would have rooms listed in grid form and then give a drop down list for features.
-Limited features- I know I'm beating a dead horse here....but no pools. Which means no swimwear. I don't care much about toddlers, however I didn't know there would be no cars or forms of transportation of any kind? Not even bicycles? Granted I haven't left my house yet so I don't know how they travel but I built a garage and then searched aimlessly forever through drop down menus, to find a "model" car and get very excited then get very confused why it was so small. I feel like the game is extremely stripped down, no doubt to make expansions necessary and cost fans a lot of money. I don't feel like they are very loyal to their fans. Give us something without giving us a nose bleed. For real.
-Very limited decor- There are like 4 counter options. I mean really?
-Limited personality traits- I don't like only being able to select (3 or 4, can't remember) They added emotions but stripped down other crucial parts of the human make up.
-Time- it seems to go EXTREMELY fast, or maybe the sims are faster? It makes having more than one family member pretty difficult. I had free will turned on but they kept ignoring my actions to do their own so I turned it off. However actions are completed so fast I can't keep up with three people and their emotions and wants. It leads to playing most of the game in pause lining up actions and then playing for a few seconds only to pause again and do it again.
-Locked features- I can't get an upgraded pots and pans set unless I get my character to level 10 as a painter? Say what???
-Small neighborhoods- Teeny tiny, miniature. You only have 3 lot options and a few houses. It's completely ridiculous. I haven't explored it in live mode but just having to select my house was a huge let down.
-Buttons- While I love being able to play on a less crowded screen, I feel like I'm constantly trying to find everything in individual drop down menus. Took me forever to find out if my Sim was hungry or not.
-No basements
-Limited life time wishes- I wanted my Sim to be athletic but the only aspiration that went with it was being a body builder. Nothing about sports.
-Can't adjust Sim height- With all the push and pull features I really thought you could make them short or tall.
-Walk styles- While I like the idea of being able to select a walk, I feel that most of them are really strange looking. The goofy walk looks like a rabid warewolf.
It's now 11am, and I haven't slept yet because I've been playing this game so obviously it isn't terrible. However I don't know how long it will keep me occupied without expansion packs. I'm sure I'm forgetting a ton more things I had thought about, but this is it for now.
About what I love the most so far:
- The huge amount of sims that walk around in the neighborhood! I'm going for a family/home playstyle atm and not visiting the city that much so its wonderful my sims can meet new sims just by going outside
- The group chat and how easy to meet a new sim and he just joins the conversation!
- How sims now properly enjoy the parties and the party goals! in TS3 I always had major issues with sims getting stuck, getting bored, all trying to reach for the food at the same time etc... now they interact, eat, have fun properly! Oh not to mention the staff you can hire for the parties!
- I liked the new realistic things added like pregnancy test, breast feeding and pregnant women being able to do more activities!
- I like the achievements, the super fast 'save game' and above all, how smooth the game runs compared to previous versions!
This is what I love the most so far but do note I didn't explore properly the community lots, the building mode etc yet!
About what I disliked, I didn't really dislike anything horribly, I wasn't expecting it to have all the gameplay items I have at my TS3 because there I have tons of EPS and store content... but if I have to pick one, I would say I would love the city to be a bit bigger. A few more lots without compromising the current awesome performance the game has
I was going to suggest that their needs would decay a bit slower but I just noticed I can upgrade that with aspiration points so I guess i'll work on it a bit since they seem to decay a bit faster than I was expecting
What I like: The way the sims have personality again. The way the game its self looks like. The art work is amazing, I love the pixar feel to the game. The multitasking, being able to talk to other sims while reading. Group interactions. How all the towns are connected, The map as a theme park feel to it. For me that makes it feel fun, love the game save.
Things I don't like: So far only one thing, I don't like the load screen for my sim to go next door. I thought as long as they were in their neighborhood that there would not be a load screen.
Not sure about suggestions at this time except a small one if there is ever away to not have a load screen in the neighborhood so my sim could go next door that would be amazing lol
My over all thoughts: I thought it would feel a little more bare then it is. I really like the feel of the game. While I am not thrilled with the load screen to go next door, I can live with it. I don't mind the load screen to leave to go into the town. I think with new more fresh Eps meaning not the same old Eps this game will be a good edition to the sim franchise. I feel some of the nay sayers should give the game a chance. Not having toddlers, pools or cars is not a huge thing. I am still excited about this game!
Emotions! I assumed I'd dislike them from the previews, but they've been a wonderful addition.
Multitasking.
The new intuitiveness of the social pie menu.
Leveling skills feels fun. It's no longer something I fast forward through.
Graphics style.
Great, great sim creation system.
It's a little thing, but I really enjoy the automatic daycare change, and I loved being able to work while pregnant.
Dislikes:
Severely limited job options! No medical, education, science, law enforcement, miliary, etc, careers? What the heck? It almost feels like that was intentionally done in order to set up an "Ambitions" style expansion.
Days do not seem long enough. Taking care of basic needs leaves little time to "play". As soon as my sim got a job, I stopped having time to explore community lots. That's a bit *too* realistic. o:)
Not being able to click through the sim's interface while they're at work is a bummer.
Why is there no skill journal?! *tears*
I want a visible family tree. I didn't realize how much it mattered to me until it was gone. Having this back, alone, would make me fully switch from TS3.
I want a "living world". I want to see sims in the town get married, divorce, move, have children, etc, without my direct involvement. I had a mod for it on TS3, so I suppose I'll just have to wait for one here, but it feels like something that should be a default option.
I'd like some way to change a sim's name without using CAS.
I would like to be able to "save" their wants again.
Lack of toddlers. That was my favorite life stage.
Babies being tied to a piece of furniture. It just feels bad. I do appreciate the new interaction options and how much less annoying they are to keep happy.
I don't mind the lack of an open world, but the towns feel much too small. Specifically the number of homes available.
Overall I think it's a fantastic game and I'm happy with my purchase. However, it is missing so much of what I loved about TS3 (when comparing basegame to basegame). The sims themselves are much improved, but the play experience as a whole leaves me feeling wanting.
Bigger neighborhoods, yes (having a "jog" down three houses and turning around is pathetic looking.... lol, and if/when cars get added, there will be all of two seconds of drive time before loading screen. Maybe when CAW comes out, we'll have the option to get larger hoods? That would give it at least a bit more of the open world *feel* if not the real thing.)
Family trees for legacy players, yes. Although seeing all of the dead ends from the children who get moved out to die in the unplayed houses without getting married and having kids of their own would be sad, so if you can figure out a way to write in *some* kind of story progression, that would be great too.
Other than that, I'm pretty happy. There are a lot of things I like. I have to get used to how much more *busy* these Sims are.....
I will start off by saying if EA meant for this game to be easier for the average player to build lots, they have succeeded and failed. There are some nice features that make building lots easier, such as the different shaped room and having the ability to resize rooms once they are in place. The rounded porches/balconies are a nice touch. My favorite feature is the roof tool and the ability to resize and choose different colors for different parts of the roof(this has long been a complaint of mine about the other sims games). **BUT** they do not have a octagon shaped roof to go over the octagon rooms. I am truly befuddled by this and as I create mostly Victorians and Castles I am quite annoyed.
There are other nice things, such as being able to place windows and curtains at different heights, but let’s talk about terrain paint and the over-all cartoonish look of the exterior of the homes. The terrain paint just looks wonky to me, it doesn’t look good at all.(I have a high end gaming PC, so i am sure it’s not my graphic card) Not to mention that the horrid controls for moving around the lot (camera controls), make doing anything a chore if you can get to the angle you need.
Controls, the UI, what a lovely mystery mess if you do not know where things are located. And don’t try to edge scroll where the UI is as it won’t let you. I found this out the hard way and I have noticed many people complaining about edge scrolling not working! Oh, it works, you just can’t do it if the UI is in the way. Maxis/EA should fix this asap.
The lack of lots that are empty and not knowing how to bulldoze the ones that are pre-made. It took me two hours of building and accidentally clicking on something whilst in build mode in order to figure we can bulldoze the lot. There is a little house icon towards the top you can click on that has an option to bulldoze lot, but you have to be on the lot to bulldoze. Wouldn’t this be so much simpler to do from the world screen much like every Sims games? Who really plays the horrible Maxis pre-built houses anyway?
I hated the tutorial part when you first open the game. You had to go into Create A Sim and well, create a sim. Plenty annoying as I don’t actually play the game and could care less about the tutorial phase. **But** there is a light at the end of the tunnel, go to Simsvip and she explains how to shut this off in origin. Otherwise you will have to complete the whole thing before it shuts off.
In buy mode there are some items, I seem to remember some lamps that you have to be at a certain level in a job to unlock. 🐸🐸🐸🐸? I guess I will never use those lamps as I don’t play the game and don’t see myself doing it in the future.
Last but not least, I see no way to share the lots with the exception of the gallery in game. Just what I wanted, my creations floating around on the Sims 4 exchange and no possible way to save them to my computer. This is by far the biggest annoyance to me, the whole reason I buy the Sims games is to create houses. I am beyond annoyed.
Over-all there are certain things I like about the game and there are other things that I cannot stand and I hope EA will fix these items.
-Animations - They are much more realistic.
-The Emotions - I was so scared of these at first, but I really like playing with the emotions
-Build/Buy Mode - This is so awesome! I love that buy mode is incorporated with build.
-Cook - I adore the fact that you can make pancakes for dinner or tilapia for breakfast. In TS3 my sim always wanted waffles near dinner >:(
-Load Time - the individual loading screens don't bother me since they are sooooooo much faster than TS3 is on my comp!
-Job Goals - I like the fact that they have specific promotion goals!
Things I Don't Like:
-Color Choices - Bring back CAS or at least a color wheel.... please?
-Multitasking - Yes! My sim will keep reading even if she needs to pee! ::does happy dance::
-Camera Controls - Overall, I actually do like the camera, except where is the tilt? Please let me tilt the screen!
- Working - 2 things. One, when they're at work, I want to see their needs, even if I can't click, please let me view. And 2 - Where is the go to work button if they are late. I accidentally cancelled the go to work option and couldn't manually send them back.
Things I Can't Figure Out:
- Romance - where the heck is the romance option? I get friendly, funny, mean, and mischief.... Where is romance?
I'm sure as I keep playing that I will like/dislike many more things, but these are the main ones!
1. What I like:
-CAS is great, my only complaints are that the white clothing option looks incredibly grey. I may be blind, but are there watches for women? I could only find bracelets
-Multitasking is such a neat feature!
-The social interactions are engaging and make sims much more "alive"
-New build mode tools are fun to use; I love the rooms you can buy!
2. What I don't like:
-The camera is incredibly finicky; I enabled edge-scrolling, but it can be quite unresponsive and hard to maneuver. I still have not figured out how to edge-scroll down while in build mode, and it is incredibly frustrating
-Taking a shower takes a long time...an hour at times
-My curtains disappeared in one of my rooms and I don't know why...
-My largest complaint: complete lack of story progression. I made two different households and made everyone get a job (funds were only about $400 in one house). I went to my first household for a few days and then came back to my second house, expecting more money to have been made, skills to have been worked on, etc, but NOTHING had changed. We still had about $400 and that was it. The lack of any kind of story progression is crippling and makes it much more difficult to balance households
-Need more residential lots
3. Suggestions:
-Please, enable some kind of story progression! It doesn't have to be some big aspect like in TS3, but something!
-Enable the ability to turn off the noises when emotions change
4. Overall thoughts:
-This game is fun to play and very engaging, but some aspects need improvement
-Thank you for your hard work, but please take into consideration what others and I have said about making it even better!
2. I still cannot tell the difference between teens and adults. Please implement a preteen stage along with toddlers. The jump from kid-to-teen is too drastic.
3. Touchpad users do not have a way to vertically tilt the camera. Please fix this. I don't understand why the camera controls can't be like SimCity's.
3. Edge scrolling is broken. This should be an easy fix.
4. I don't understand why there aren't any family trees in the game. How hard could it be to implement that?
5. The controls are clunky and the new UI is so simplified that I fear new players will be lost. Yeah, it looks better, but the FUNCTIONALITY has deteriorated. Build mode was confusing, honestly.
6. The default volume for the radio is so quiet that I can barely hear it.
7. The careers are really lacking right now. Since this is mostly a text-based feature, I do not understand why there are so little options to choose from. Also, half of the career choices are so childish that I would never consider them.
8. It should be easier to add NPC townies to the game. Right now, we have to move a family in and then evict them. The "manage households" feature should have a button to create a family right there. Also, the term "Not in World" is misleading, as they are technically in the world, just NPCs.
EDIT: Almost forgot this! Right now it seems like roofs are only made for square rooms. Why is this?
I really liked the amped up interactions, especially when the sims went into different emotional states. That was very fun and a big step in the right direction.
Love how the building works
Love how the sims look and how goofy they are.
I'm excited to recreate these worlds since the ones made by the gurus are BORING! Can't wait to see what others create!
Love the gallery feature. I think this is a huge step up from Sims 3
What you didn't like
How come I can't simply walk over to my neighbor's house??? At least let Sims explore the neighborhood. I don't mind flitting from my neighborhood to the bar, but please let sims walk on over to the next door neighbors.
Both worlds are too small. I got bored after I went to each place. There's only four uninteresting buildings/places. I will have fun recreating everything, though. Looking forward to that.
Where is the coffee??? Maybe I just didn't see it, but I couldn't order coffee or an energy drink when my sim wanted to stay out late and party. I wanted to order that at the bar.
My sims do seem more real, so maybe I'm expecting too much from them, but sometimes when engaging in conversation, I had one sim jump up and go to the other side of the bed and converse while looking at a wall and the other sim was standing up on the other side of the bed. Weird. They do a lot of unnatural things, I think due to the multitasking option. I'm sure you'll figure out how to fix this.
Suggestions?
Let the Sims explore their world. I loved how my sim in sims 3 could look out in their world and see a vista, a mountain, a beautiful sunset (even in Midnight Gardens). I feel trapped in a closet--sort of like Sims 1.
Overall thoughts?
To me, this is just like what Final Fantasy did to its franchise. In FF12, we could explore the world, go anywhere in the beautiful areas, even if we weren't leveled up (and yeah, we'd die, but who cares? It was fun!) Then along came FF13 and they penned us into going from point A to point B. Sure the graphics were breathtaking, but I'd take crummier graphics if I can explore. That's what EA has done to the Sims. Penned us in. I hate that! I want my sim to be able to explore their world, even if it's in the next door neighbors backyard.
1: The worlds are TOO SMALL. Not nearly enough lot's to do much of anything. Still feels like the Sims version of
" Under the Dome"....
What is needed are: EDIT TOWN tool, world objects, ability to rotate lot's and to add lot's of different sizes.
Terrain needs more variation, hills, etc....
2: CAW yes, I dearly miss create a world. I hope that we see something like that down the road.
3; I know that everyone will disagree, but to me, not having SEASONS, makes this only half of a game. I thought it took WAAAY to long for it to emerge on TS3. Snow, beaches & beach swimming, and everything in between made me so happy.
4: The alleged " TS3" control does not work like the TS3 control. Both TS2 & 3 had a handy little dial that was easy to use. In this game, no matter how I try to avoid this, I still end up using the top of the screen Icon, the mouse AND the ARROW KEYS to maneuver. This is STILL HORRIBLE.
5: School, City Hall, Police, fire dept, hospital, you know, all that good stuff.
There are several things I really like. It seems like I have more time at home after and before work, big bonus for not having to leave for work an hour early. I like the mini tasks in Jobs to fulfill and the wants system is really cool. I've only been able to make my guy multitask a little bit, to watch TV and eat and to talk to someone while using the can. I look forward to finding more of these opportunities for multitasking.
The only thing I am really having trouble with, and it's probably my fault with the learning curve, is using the build tools. For instance to build a deck on my existing house the only way I could figure out how to do it was to make a whole new room, put in floor tiles and then delete the walls around it. Anyone else build decks differently? Also the normal camera movement I with edge scrolling, I can't seem to move the camera down towards me. I'm resisting turning on Sims 3 camera compatibility because I want to do everything the new way.
Finally my only suggestion so far: Please put in a way to disable the tutorials in the game menu. I was going to work one day and I saw something pop up about emotions and clicked on it and it dropped the hygiene meter all the way to the bottom after I had just taken a shower, had to go to work like that.
What I liked:
The emotions- I enjoyed all the interactions
The Multitasking is pretty cool, that was a plus
I don't mind the neighborhoods, I love how many people kind of populate and are around to talk to and interact with
The graphics and detail I can appreciate
What I don't like so far:
The camera angles are weird
Edge scrolling can be quite difficult
From what I saw, some tasks can take a really long time (not enough time int he day)
The pop ups can be tricky, I clicked on and my hygiene went all the way down and their emotions changed
I'm sure there will be more pro's and cons, but for now this is all I have...
PS...Where can I get a list of cheat codes? I only know "motherlode" I'd appreciate it, greatly.
First off, my overall impression is wonderful. The game itself has been stable and smooth so far, and I'm excited about that more than anything! I enjoyed TS3, but it did not run smoothly for me, so this has been a huge plus for me in regards to TS4.
Some little things that have bugged me a bit so far...
*I can't eat raw produce that I grow from my inventory? Unless I'm missing something (and I could be hahaha) I can't eat the raw apples and carrots etc that I grow in my garden plots. I have to use them in recipes in order to consume them. I would like to see the option to do more then just plant those items.
*Dancing and watching TV lock you into static queues. I get why the game does this, but it's a little frustrating because if you don't remember to cancel the TV or dancing interaction before you zip off to manage other members of your household, your sim will still be dancing or watching TV with a full queue stacked up when you return. LOL
*The interface feels less user friendly. Switching between floors in live play is awkward with the mouse. I've never been one to use the hotkeys in TS1, 2, or 3, but TS4 has cured me of that stubborn refusal. hahaha Now that I've memorized the hotkeys, though, moving through my game feels more fluid.
* I still miss the color wheel in CAS, but I'm getting over it. lol
* No makeup options for children in CAS. I was kind of bummed out by this and do hope to see some in the future.
*I haven't experienced any bugs that I've noticed, yet, but I'll be sure to let you know if I do!
Likes:
*You have outdone yourself with pregnancy. I could kiss you! I have truly adored the fact that my sim is no longer a homebound useless talking piece of furniture while pregnant. Being able to wear your normal outfits is glorious, the fact that she can go to work A+ THANK YOU!!!, and I really like the element of surprise with the pregnancy time frame itself. That it's not a static 3 days is just awesome. Pregnancy tests too, the whole kit and kaboodle that comes along with pregnancy is just wonderful. Well done!
*Clicking on a single plant to weed or water continues the weed and water interaction with the rest of the garden. I like how I only have to click on one plant to have my sim take care of the whole garden. The fact that plants can evolve when taken care of properly to yield more and higher quality produce is a great feature as well. I like what I've seen with gardening so far!
*How my sims find gems and animals in the wild now is a lot of fun. Actually mining up the gem is a nice change of pace, and when my sim stuck her hand inside a log for the first time I was a little squeamish. hahaha I was worried something bad was going to happen to her, but when she produced a frog I was pretty thrilled! This is a nice touch, and a refreshing spin on collectibles.
*The interface is smooth and the performance of the game in general for me has been spectacular. Well done.
*I like that all objects that break have the chance to be repaired but also replaced without having to go into build mode. After repairing, it's awesome that you get a pile of spare parts. I'm excited to see what I can do with these parts later on in my sim's story.
*Children are more independent and I truly enjoy this! Thank you for revamping children the way you have. They can actually DO things in the world to improve their skills in a meaningful way. Thank you for removing the learning cap. I always found it idiotic that children capped out on how much they could learn in TS3, and I am overjoyed to see you have removed that handicap on them and expanded their interactions. The toys, utilities, and social options that now accompany the children life stage are spectacular. I can't wait to see what teens can do!
*The atmosphere in the game is great. The floating leaves and blossoms that blow through the air on gentle breezes add a lot of ambiance to the game. Even though there are no seasons, these great effects trick you into feeling like the weather is changing. Very smooth play there. lol I enjoy this feature a lot! The fireflies in the evening are also a great ambiance touch. Well done!
*Population! Sims sims everywhere!!! If the price of loading screens means my game will stay this populated with sims, then I will gladly pay it! I have never seen so many sims running past my house, in the park, at the venues. This is wonderful. I feel like my sim lives in a legitimate community. She sees so many sims passing her home and hanging out on the jogging trail near her home. It's impressive that I have this feeling of connection with the sims in the community in a game where there is no open world. Well done on this design. It's a hard thing to pull off, but so far so good. I'm impressed.
That's it for now. I miss a lot of my EP features from TS3, but as far as Sim Base Games are concerned, this one has been the best by far. Thank you!!! Smooth launch and smooth playing. I'm a very happy simmer!!!
