How is it they would take too long when they were able to do this 10 years ago?

How is it they would take too long when they were able to do this 10 years ago?

I'm no expert but I'm going to say part of the problem is the gamers of today want better and better graphics and more content in their video games. Just a short 20-30 years ago entire games could be created by 1 person, graphics, sound and all. Now games such as this have over 100 people working on them.

I know people like to mock the graphics in Sims 4 for being too "cartoony" but the graphics are better than Sims 3 and a lot better than Sims 1. Hiring graphic designers isn't cheap.

Then you have to look at the content we have in games now compared to 15 years ago. Let's look at Sims 1. You were stuck at your home with what, a hundred or so buy items? A few limited build items? I don't even think you could go higher than two stories in Sims 1 if I recall correctly. Clothes, hair styles, body builds, all of those were very limited. Now there are hundreds of buy items, a lot more build options and the build mode is much more powerful now than in Sims 1, hundreds of clothing options, highly customizable Sims, all of which not only need coding but also graphical resources devoted to them.

It's not as easy as saying "Well 10 years ago Sims 2 had toddlers, how hard can it be?" It can be a lot harder.

Or maybe EA really did just decide they wanted to cut toddlers and pools and sell them to us in an expansion pack. Why the heck not? People are going to buy them regardless.

I was afraid that would be the case. So we're just going to have to settle with Sims walking through everything like ghosts? *sigh*

As opposed to stomping screaming getting stuck and bugging crashing my game....I'll take it. Plus we've some some of the better routing in how they go around things when possible but I guess if doing that is risking a stomp scream or if the player rapidly changes action queue they'll go through stuff instead of clog.
But why would you take it? Why are people accepting this? So you'd rather have sims walking through each other, than have them stomp around? While stomping around was annoying, I find walking through a sim, to be even worse. There was a screenshot of a sim sitting THROUGH another sim. Yes, sitting right on top of a sim, going THROUGH the sim. That's better than stomping around? That's a better solution? How about EA get's their act together and FIX routing issues, instead of going the easy way out.

I have never in my life, seen clipping this bad before. Ever.

I play ((And enjoy)) MMORPGs where I zip right through a nother player and some objects if they're in the way of a route. I do not frustrate with clipping and it doesn't bother me. I DO frustrate with the way TS3 handled routing issues which was....It didn't at all. It had them and no way to get out. I'm glad they go through the other be sides clump to gether into a screaming mass. So it's not an issue for ME. In my mind I'm not settling for less be cause I simply do not care a bout clipping in a game. The only players I see this frustrating most are those that take pictures of their Sims and trying to get that right moment with out any clipping. I'm a game play type more. So....Yeah heh ((Even though I am doing a Legacy with pics I still don't care. It's just not an issue for ME.))

Personally, I'd say that I think it's an indicator of general bugginess. Clipping of some degree happens in just about every 3D video game, however, it's generally not intentional. And the amount of clipping that I've seen in the videos seems excessive. If it is intentional in the case of TS4 and that's their fix for routing issues, then I'm worried about the whole game. What else did they "fix"?

It has some issues. A lot less then the Sims 3 and it looks like a lot more fun too. There will be patch EPs, DLC, CC, & mods. These are early days.

I seriously want a real answer to this...
I can't see how it is okay to replace one bad set of coding with another bad set of coding when routing issues were blamed on the open world of TS3....

Routing issues were blamed on the open world in Sims 3? It's been a while since I've played Sims 1 but I seem to recall there being similar issues in that game.

Assuming the clipping is intentional to fix routing issues then it's simple; I would rather put up with clipping that doesn't affect the actual game play than put up with routing issues which does affect game play.

As for why they didn't just fix routing and cut down on the clipping? Maybe it was too time consuming.

Did the developers really blame the open world for routing issues and thus saying clipping is to fix routing all bull then? It would seem so.

I just don't see how that would be the case though. I would think you would have routing issues whether you're on a single lot or you're on an open world.

Too time consuming to fix issues that have prevailed for as long as you are saying is the very definition of insanity. It means they are doing the same exact thing over and over again and expecting different results, which is the definition of insanity.

That's actually not the definition of insanity but regardless, assuming the clipping is intentional to fix the routing issues then they aren't doing the same thing again; they are trying to fix the problem.

It may not be the solution you want but that doesn't mean they aren't trying to fix it.

To me its a very poor solution. All games have bugs I more then understand that I have played plenty. I am at the point I am sick and tired of excuses and want so actual truth for once. Not smiling thought live play that has things in it leaving people asking whats going on, is this in the final game? Why are Teens, YAs, Adults and Elders all the same heights? The teens and elders seem like a total after thought as do babies and children.

Sounds like it's time for you to move on to a different game. Sorry it didn't work out for you.

So....Yeah heh ((Even though I am doing a Legacy with pics I still don't care. It's just not an issue for ME.))

But a lot of MMORPGs don't use collision detection between players to allow for more players in an area. Also, it cuts down on griefing because if there's collision players can "push" each other around (I saw that happen on a MMORPG that I used to play that had collision detection). Basically, there is a reason for it in MMOs. What's the reason in TS4? Is it really just to fix bad routing? Anyway, I know that it doesn't bother everyone. Clipping usually doesn't bother me at all. But there's just so much of it in this game from what I've seen. And I'm worried that that may mean bigger problems for the game as a whole.

Also, people talk a lot about all of the routing issues that they had in TS3, but I didn't have that many when it came to the sims getting around. For the most part sims walked around each other and around objects in my game. Occasionally they would take a strange route, or "dance" with each other. I had other issues with the game, but I didn't get much stomping of the feet routing failure type stuff.

Well yes and no. When I view an equal amount of LP gameplay on TS3 I see a lot more glitches and they affect gameplay.

A more elegant routing fix would be a simple animation of them passing each other side by side. With 3 sims involved,
    a squeeze through.

This is a bug, not a feature.

Well, who knows? From my point of view I haven't exactly seen fewer issues, just different ones. I have a feeling that there will be a lot of bugs and frustration throughout at least the first month or two. If they have indeed built on a "stable foundation" then hopefully they'll get on top of fixing any issues that arise. But, still, I worry about the overall stability of the game. It's hard not to after seeing how buggy TS3 was.

I did notice a lot of passing/walking around that is new or improved. I'd call it more of a workaround than a bug. I hope it's improved. It one of those things that really bug some people. I rarely notice it; when I do, I don't care.

The musical chair issue bugs me a lot more.

If it was too time consuming, then maybe they should have delayed the game though, I know people really would like this game
but if you had to pick between waiting 6months and getting it without errors or getting it now and getting it riddled with them
I'd go with the first option (then again i'm a patient person).

The release date has already been pushed back about 6 months.

I know :) but again I'm a patient person, I have waited 2 years before on pushed back games and they ended up better for it.
they could have waited with this game another year easy, and if it means that this would have made things better so be it.

In TS3, sims didn't walk through each other like ghosts, and they didn't keep getting out of their chairs to sit in another random chair. How is that better routing? Even the producers were annoyed. That says something.

Definitely what I've decided to do. I've decided not to buy it, but I'm still going to check out LPs, reviews, and keep up with the feedback here on the forums. If I see great gameplay and stellar reviews, I may be swayed. But I'm just not ready to buy it yet. Guess we'll see how things go. Not much longer now.
