Appaloosa Plains Conversion: Country Club focused, Modern Sleek World IN PROGRESS

Robyn1XPRobyn1XP Posts: 341 Member
So, I've fiddled with CAW for a while now, making terrible worlds... have yet to really like anything I've ever made myself.

I've made entire playable worlds but the terrain was never pretty, the lots were really random and thrown together (or bin lots used A LOT) and nothing ever looked good together.

So... I'm trying AGAIN! (You know what they say, if at first you don't succeed, try, try again.)

I was playing in Appaloosa plains (Pets EP) and I really loved the land, with the plateau above, the sprawling area around the river. I knew I liked the map A LOT but I really hated the layout of AP, and obviously it didn't have all the content I wanted in a world. Throwing in The Lucky Simoleon Casino really made everything look terrible, but I know I wanted a casino and other lots!

So, I used AP's heightmap into CAW, and decided I would just redo AP from the ground up (except, obviously, I didn't sculpt the ground, lol) I imported the bottom 4 paint layers from AP so that the terrain would still match the Distant Terrain, and then I made a few edits to the paint, particularly in the areas where I've changed the terrain. (This stuff is still heavily in progress and nowhere near finished.)

I'm still making edits, mostly small to the terrain, to make it suit my needs more, but it still looks pretty much exactly like Appaloosa Plains.

Now, the focus of this town is a Country Club area, private neighborhood type dealio on the raised plateau-like area of the terrain:

I've used the Monte Vista walls to give this area a private, secluded feel to it.

Next, the area where the river splits, there was a peninsula with a large hill, forming up into the mountain. I've flattened a bit of this peninsula, and am still working on re-painting and making the terrain look more natural. This area will either feature homes, or a seasonal changing fairground.

I've built the science facility and am using Jynx's rabbithole rugs. The plan is to make all the buildings in this town with a sleek, modern style. I hated finding really beautiful modern lot designs, then placing them in neighborhoods I was playing only to have them look horridly out of place. This whole world will be very modernized with sleek buildings. I plan to make them all myself, unless others feel inclined to make builds specifically for this world :-)

So this is the science area, and the military area will also be here.

Lastly, here is a more distant view so you can see just about the whole map:

As you can see, this is just the beginning of the world. I'll update as I'm working on it! I hope you all like what you see. Feel free to add in suggestions or any criticisms too! I'm still very... unskilled at CAW but am trying my best to get better!

I hope when your done you'll share this update, I never play this world because I don't like how it looks. Though I was thinking of flattening it and getting it updated to a sort of western type world. So much I want to do, I just don't know where to start. :-)

I am most definitely going to be sharing this when it is done!

I also really love your idea of a western version of AP! That sounds like a lot of fun.

The plan with this one is to pretty much have every type of community lot as well (I hate playing most EA worlds because they are lacking something of everything, if you know what I mean?)

So this world is going to require all EPs (except ITF until I get it) and will have lots of premium Store content venues (bakery, casino etc) BUT I will make lots to replace those if a person does not have those store venue items. :-)

So it will be an everything-world, but I'll make replacement lots for venues that require Store items :-)

Edit: ALSO! I'm ALMOST done with the actual Country Club lot (I wanted to build it first as it is the focal point of this world) I'll be posting some pictures of that very shortly!! :-D

Current lot in progress: A combination lot with Bakery, Bookstore/Comic Bookstore and either a General store or a Consignment store (I haven't decided)

Aw thank you so much! Do you mean the Country Club lot or the strip mall thingy-majig? :-P

    EDIT:

    Update!

Here is the exterior finally complete for the combination shopping lot. I'll be playtesting it this afternoon :-) And taking photos of the interior when in Live Mode.

I also realized I've forgotten exterior lighting on this lot, so I'll be fixing that as well.

Before you go too far, the only EA worlds we have permission to edit (for upload/sharing) are Sunset Valley and Riverview. CAW files are out there for others but they are forbidden for upload due to EA copyrights.

I would imagine that once EA finds out, you'll probably be hearing from them (if you share). Writin'Reg is a good person to ask as I believe she has knowledge of some people who tried to do the same (perhaps not with the same world).

You could edit it for your own use, though.

Well that is VERY good to know!!

I suppose I should package these lots up and... try to make my own terrain then. :-/

I really, really, REALLY want to make a world I can share!

Thank you so much for the information.

I suppose for now, the Appaloosa Plains Conversion is getting scrapped, but I'm saving these lots I've built for it. I've worked so hard already.

Ah that's too bad, I don't imagine they would have said much. They are focused on Sims 4 now, however I think once you buy the games you should be able to do whatever you like with them.

I would still keep playing with the world and use it for your own, personal use since you went through all that trouble. U can still focus on another World to share but don't scrap AP after all you did.

When I do over a world I just delete all the Lot's and Families and put all new Lot's Etc.

Also you could still share all the Lot's you made I would love to use them in my World's. I like how they combine so much into like one or two Lot's.

I also love all your Build's you have an amazing skill for building an a since of style.

Don't freak too much. I was worried that you might do a major amount of work only to find out you could not share it. Ugh!

However, absolutely put those lots back for re-use. There is no sense wasting! You can also find height maps online, to save some time, as well. Sculpting is an extreme pain and takes a long time but I am sure there is something out there that could work for your project.

Yeah I'm not freaking out, just was more or less disappointed haha!

I ended up starting a new world, so once I get that one going I'll share pictures of it here on the forums, I love the CAW community here :-)

I may someday finish this world for my own use, maybe. At the moment I really want to finish up a world that I can share with everyone :-).

I do plan on sharing a lot of the lots I've made for this world, especially since I will be making non-Store premium content replacement lots for those players who don't have the Store content I'm using in the world :-)

Thanks everyone for being so helpful!! I'll see you all around, especially once I post up pics in a thread for my new world!! (Hope I can terrain-sculpt okay!)
