Sims 4 Build Mode_by ehaught58

«1
We can finally talk about build mode in the Sims 4! Well, at least what they have done so far with it. The basics of build mode have been established, but there is a long ways to go before we see the final product. Many of the questions that we, the builders, asked at Sims Camp ended up with the answer, "We can not discuss that at this time." or "We are looking into that." So, obviously, there is a long ways to go!

Before I started this post, I checked out some of my fellow Campers posts to see what they have reported so far. I will tell you that their pictures and reports would put anything I could post to shame, so I have decided to point you towards their threads for the pictures and information. Here is a link to Bill's thread; he brought a really good camera and took some excellent pictures of the Master Class for build mode.

http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/300/328094.page#11318474

If you have any questions about Sims 4 build mode you would like for me to answer, please post them here and I will do my best to answer them.

    Thank you for posting this

it seems intuitive... but am I totally wrong when I get the feeling of it being a little more building block you put togthere than it is in sims 3?

    love the curved fencing.

Thanks for the link, I hadn't seen his post!

I'm just curious as to your overall impression... are you excited about the new build mode? Do you think it will do for you what you want it to?

I want to know the same. I get more from builder's point of view. Thank you.
Nothing to see. I don't even care about the forums.

Thanks ehaught58 for posting. I am kind of overwhelmed by all of this and it will take a while to sink in. It seems rather complicated especially with build/buy combined. I don't see how you will be able to change colors if there is not CASt. Cas was much easier to comprehend.

I have a question. If CASt is no longer will it be a deal breaker for you or did you see enough creative ability to say you are ok with the changes?

    ehaught58,

Thank you for the link to hmsdrco2001’s build mode review from Gamescon. Lots of good information giving those of us that like to build much to think about. I can see from all the “no comments” that you and the other attendees were dedicated to compiling as much information for the community as possible.

    Thanks again :D

It sure looks that way! But the nice thing is, you can shape each block anyway you want! I love the curved fencing, too! I think there is a lot of potential for the curved fencing than meets the eye. I have already thought about some things we can do with it.... outside the box!

Yeah, Bill has posted some awesome pictures and info. As for my impression... I think that there will be A LOT MORE coming for build mode in Sims 4 than what we were privy to. As stated earlier, we asked a lot of questions that they would not comment on. So, right there, that tells me there is a lot more to come! I was impressed with what I have seen so far.

On the contrary! I think what they are doing will make building less complicated. As for colors, though they have not completely ruled out CASt, from what I understood, there will be a lot of color choices for clothes, objects, wallpaper, tiles, etc. to choose from at your fingertips.

I think that if CASt is not included in Sims 4, they will include a color system that will satisfy most everyone. It is hard for some people to accept change, but I am not one of them. What I saw and heard at this point will add enough choices that I think most people will embrace.

Thankyou very much Ed, the new way to buy/build mode gives us so much to think about! I can´t wait to put my hands on it, There have been so many times I have wished to move a room just a little bit or to change it to another storey! and round fences! wow it open so much possibilities!

Though I think we have to wait, may be till the first EP, to judge, sims 3 basegame was not what it is now with 10+ EPs, we should not compare, they have to sell the sims 4 EPs

Now we can think that we can´t do without seasons for instance but we did quite well without them for a long time, so we have to be patient...

You are probably right, junceda. We can only hope that more will be included with the Sims 4 base game than what came out with the Sims 3, otherwise we will have to play the waiting game.... :?

Hi Ed! There are SO many very cool building construction tools in TS4’s base game. I’m happy to see that parking-strips have made a comeback that no one mentioned. As I recall, there’s a pic of one somewhere that shows a grid map of a lot overlapping it indicating that you can decorate it as we were able to in TS2 but I’m sure we had to use the “move objects” cheat to accomplish this. Regardless, it’s cool that they’re back. I really missed them.

As for all of the “no comments,” I’m not as optimistic or trusting as you are after the broadcast of “Island Paradise.” The ONLY reason why I bought it was the claim that we could use this EP in other worlds which was true but they failed to mention how unbelievably DIFFICULT it would be! Ports and Dive Spots: I’ve never had to look for simmer-made tutorials, struggle with and/or use so many cheats that much EVER! And I hated its “Isla Paradiso” world because there weren’t enough big vacant lots to move mine into and it was too dark. I haven’t officially “removed” the program from my PC but thinking about. I did delete my saved game of it as well most of the lots I collected in my library. In my opinion, it was a total waste of my time and money for that reason alone.

Learning to be patience and WAITING for other simmers’ reports before even thinking about “buying” is something I’ve regretted not doing SO many times in the past but certainly will THIS time so there will be no pre-ordering.

My major question is what will be the PC specs for this game? No one has touched on THAT subject yet or maybe I missed it.

I hope you had a good time at the camp and I thank you SO for your input.

Hey Cam, it sounds like you have been having some bad luck with your game lately. I can understand your frustration when things do not work the way we expect them to. I have not been having any problems with IP, but I have been building more than playing with it. I agree that it was lacking in the amount of empty lots that were available, but I just bulldozed prebuilt lots as I needed to, so it didn't matter to me.

I never noticed the parking strips in Sims 4. If you could find a picture for me, I would like to see what you are talking about. Though the demo of build mode seemed somewhat lacking to me, I did like what they have shown us so far. However, it is pretty plain to me that there is a long way to go before we get a true picture of what build mode will be like.

As for specs, I looked at the specs of the machine that we used for the demo and didn't see much difference between it and my computer at home. I did ask questions about what the specs for the game would be, but it is still to early to say since the game is still a long ways from completion. I tried to find out if the Sims 4 would utilize 64 bit so we could take advantage of more memory, but they were pretty tight lipped about that, because frankly, I don't even think they know for sure at this point.

Yes, I am optimistic about the Sims 4, but we still have a lot to learn about it before I can make an honest assessment of it.

BTW, I had a GREAT time! The only bad thing that happened was that when I got back, I was told at school that for some reason the administration changed their mind about approving my personal days for the trip, so I will be docked a weeks pay! :( But, even so, it was worth every penny!

“Hey Cam, it sounds like you have been having some bad luck with your game lately. I can understand your frustration when things do not work the way we expect them to.”
Ed, I don’t consider it bad luck at all. I guess my main complaint is that I have to rely on other more savvy and skilled simmers for how-to information. It was my fault for not waiting to read from them about just how difficult it would be to utilize IP in other worlds. Lesson finally learned.

“I have not been having any problems with IP, but I have been building more than playing with it.”
And you’ve built some fantastic house boats too! But have you built a dive spot yet and/or used this EP in other worlds? No need to answer because I don’t want to beat a dead seahorse.

“I agree that it was lacking in the amount of empty lots that were available, but I just bulldozed prebuilt lots as I needed to, so it didn't matter to me.”
I get that but after looking at the logistics it just didn’t work for my existing lots/sims and I simply didn’t like the world Isla Paradiso anyway.

    Moving onto TS4…

“I never noticed the parking strips in Sims 4. If you could find a picture for me, I would like to see what you are talking about.”
Here’s a great definition of parking strips: A strip of land lying either in the middle of the street or in the space between the building line and the sidewalk, or between the sidewalk and the curb or curb line intended to be used as a park-like space; that is, not built upon but beautified with turf, trees, flower beds, etc.

This is a pic of an office building that I replicated in TS2. See the grass between the curb and the sidewalk? I didn’t decorate this one but did many others and you could even decorate the ones across the street from your lot too. Parking strips were not incorporated in TS3.
    <a href="http://s305.photobucket.com/user/Cameonet1950/media/TS2 pics/RockPointeIII.jpg.html&quot; target="_blank"><img src="http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn232/Cameonet1950/TS2 pics/RockPointeIII.jpg&quot; /></a>

This is a pic from the first TS4 trailer that shows not only parking strips between the sidewalk and curb but also in the middle of the street, aka medium. Surprise! I just NOW noticed the rail tracks in the street which explains the park bench there! I’m hoping for authentic vintage looking Cable Cars. My city has shuttle busses modeled after them and they are adorable!

Thank you for your reply. I am not too concerned with how the new build/buy works or even the new CAS. But I am concerned about the choice of colors that will be in the game without CASt (that has been confirmed it will not be in the game). Having read most of the posts made by those who attended Gamescom, I did read somewhere that EA said each clothing item would have 10 color options (I am assuming they would be contained in the color swatch that appeared at the side of some of the clothing items displayed in the CAS promotion.) Undoubtedly, the colors chosen will have to fit in with the color - emotion - object scheme of things leaving the player no choice but to use in-game colors. They certainly will not be able to add their own colors like we did with CASt. To me this is going to limit and not enhance the creativity of the game. In Sims 3 there were a lot of choices for walls, wall papers, tiles, and floors etc. but not always what players would choose hence the popularity of CASt.

I noticed in all the clips of the new game, the Sims were all dressed alike. The females had tops, jackets and jeans and the males, with the exception of one, had T-shirts and jeans ( I believe there was one picture that showed some males wearing suits). There was one male Sim shown in 4 different versions but all wearing the same T-shirt (different colors) and the same jeans (same colors). All were in strong, plain colors, some with a small stencil added but no texture hence they look flat and non-dimensional. In the clip that showed the Sim of Ryan Vaughn(?), there was nothing to make him stand out from the crowd. He was dressed in a black T-shirt and jeans. In fact I did not recognise who it was until we were told. The same was true for one of the SimGuru women that was created (Jill?). Is this the creativity that EA wants us to be excited about after what we enjoyed in Sims 3 and in Sims 2? They keep telling us it was pre-alpha but I hope they showed you something different which you are not allowed to talk about and which the general public has not seen yet.

P.S.: I don't know how to import pictures to this forum but I think most have seen the clips or the trailer so you will know what I am talking about.

Edited to insert a misplaced word.

Thank you FrogPrince for setting me straight about CASt. When questions were asked about that during the demo, they did not really make it clear that CASt was out. I am assuming that other Simmers got more information from the Gurus about that individually. I spent most of my time trying to find out more about build mode than CAS and CASt. As for the limited amount of clothing, they did make it clear that they were going to put a lot more choices in the game than what we were shown. Everything that was shown to us has now been revealed to the public. There is nothing more that I know of that has not been revealed. As was pointed out before, Sims 4 has a long ways to go before we see the final product.
