Well why are they booing me?

Something i noticed is that people have been shouting at me and booing and taunting my Sim, with speech bubbles showing my Sim and a cross over it. One thing is that I joined the Musical career and only a lvl 2 at it. Is it because of a bug or the music career?

Does your sim has the inappropriate trait? Sims with this trait frequently go to parties with the wrong attire and get booed because of that.

He does not. They either cheer next to him with a happy face speech bubble, or be rude and show a cross.

Has he been accused of doing something by the paparazzi? That will damage your sim's reputation, too, and cause other sims to boo and heckle.

I don't have Late Night installed, which is very weird.

It shouldn’t be from the Music career. The “heckle” interaction comes from Showtime - do you have that pack installed? If you’re not against using mods, I’d definitely recommend using the mod that GraceyManor suggested. It works great for me.

Only the base game, sorry for not saying it earlier.

Those little bundles of digital attitudes will find any reason to boo, heckle and belittle their fellow Sims. No telling the cause.

Maybe there's something making its rounds through the grapevine about your sim which you are unaware of. Maybe your sim did or said something inside one of those rabbit-hole buildings which is getting them negatively talked about. Or maybe another sim has spread a lie about them which is gaining traction. Who knows?

While all of the heckling can be stopped with a mod, I choose to use a different method to resolve the issue. I simply have my sim just talk to the heckling sim and raise their relationship standing. I find by doing that the (heckling) sim changes their opinion of my sim and soon whenever they meet, my sim is met with the thumbs-up animation and the little smiley face next to their image.

Could be trait related. Could be outfit related. Sometimes when a sim is in an outfit marked as revealing they'll get mixed reactions like you're getting. It's hard to say without knowing anything about your sim.

I think the romantic reputation feature from generations was patched into the base game. If you've earned a negative reputation, sims will boo you. Edit: If you're getting both cheers and boos, that could be the evil trait. Do you have that one?

If it is reputation related, asking any Sim "What do they say about me?" would expose that.

I have a teenage female sim whose mother didn't like the guy she was dating so she asked her daughter to 'break up' with him. The girl agreed and they were instantly broken up. Because of this, the only person who gets booed is the mother whenever the ex-guy sees her. However, the daughter still has the 'cheaters' reputation which doesn't seem to be causing her any social harm.

Just a single one Sim. Never did any romance.

Well, not certain what to tell you. If it isn't job, trait, rumors or a romantic reason behind the booing, there's only two options left:

1). Maybe your townies just enjoy heckling. Or, and I hate to suggest this but,
2). Maybe the townies just naturally dislike your sim. Although that seems very highly unlikely to me.

BTW, if your game is fully updated you don't need to have the expansion packs installed to get certain interactions as some came active for all players in an update.

Maybe. I deleted that Sim. Could be something very hidden to the Music career as it started happening after he joined it.

Pointing and laughing is different from the heckling interaction. If Sims in town keep pointing and laughing at a Sim, that means the game broke somewhere, like it still thinks that a party's dress code still applies, or thinking that a Sim that a fairy used Inner Beauty on still has it, or even something a bit more tame like wearing a swimsuit on a lot that doesn't have a pool or celebrity disgrace.

Just use Master Controller to reset the Sim who keeps getting laughed at. That is, if the problem is more in line with the first two examples. For the latter two, just wear the everyday outfit or wait it out. If you can't tell where it came from, just reset as well.

Here's what someone said on there, I don't see anything inappropriate on this thread, but I also don't browse other parts of reddit. So Idk what the rest of the site is.But might be the problem?

I found out. There is a permanent "celebrity aura" that is secretly applied to someone that joined the Music career, even after quitting. It makes Sims either cheer or boo the Sim with the effect.

Wait. You said your Sim had only reached level 2 of the Music career. I don't understand how the game would consider them 'celebrity' enough to assign a permanent aura of fame to them. It seems to me, coding like that would be better applied to someone who has reached a higher level in the career and not to every Sim who applied for the job whether they stayed or not.

Had your Sim possibly achieved the 'celebrity' refinement which came with the base game? It's the one which is tied to the charisma skill (not the Late Night celebrity system). Or, did they play an instrument to crowds of Sims who were then added to their relationship panel?

    Just trying to understand.

I know. But it's something that I can't understand either. Some weird feature in the game.

It's called heckling. I think it is supposed to be part of the music career. I does happed other times though. I got sick of it and added a no heckling mod to my game.

Some sims will boo your sim if they are... nekkid. I do not know if there is any trait involved with that behavior or not.
  • AnthonydyerAnthonydyer Posts: 1,180 Member
I've been wondering the same thing. This wasn't a huge deal, so I let it go. :p

I have noticed within the past few years, non played Sims will go out of their way to boo/heckle my Sims. There doesn't appear to be any reason for this. None of my Sims have evil or any other bad traits. They have not done anything foul in public either. Maybe this behavior came in through one of the last updates?

Did your sim EVER join the Music career?

Just for the record, Sims have been autonomously booing and cheering each other long before the Showtime expansion pack was released. Showtime introduced controlled 'heckling', meaning you could now choose to have your active Sim perform this action (and others).

In the past (before Late Night or Showtime) it was only Sims who were public figures which the cheering or booing would happen to, such as those who were employed in the Music, Sports or Political careers. As I stated earlier, there is a celebrity system in the base game via the charisma refining challenges. Although this celebrity system isn't as refined or fleshed out as the one which came with Late Night, it does create public response. Keeping your Sim's relationship healthy with the public is one way to put a stop to the booing.

For some reason, when creating and developing this game, the Sims Team chose to put emphasis on 'creating drama' and nothing stirs up more drama than some negative controversy of some kind; although the player won't know what that drama is, the Sims will and may respond to it.

Since you mentioned you don't have Showtime installed then it's just one of the annoying reaction idles the game has. Luckily those don't have an affect on the sims mood just try to ignore it.
