TheStarrSimmerTheStarrSimmer Posts: 206 Member
I'm about to get a new Expansion Pack for my game but I can't deside which one to get...So I thought it would be a good Idea to ask yall's opinions. I listed the Packs I don't yet own. I didn't include Stuff or Game packs though...Also, if you could leave a reason why, that would be great. THANKS!!

To all those who voted and commented thank you very much. I have since purchased my latest Expansion Pack, and going with the majority I went with Cottage Living.

Without knowing anything about your play style I think most simmers end up choosing their favorite packs. For me that's Cottage Living.

I chose Cottage Living because of the content and because I personally like its theme.

I do not know your preferences or your gameplay style, but Cottage Living and Island Living are some of my faves for my own playstyle.

Country Living has new country-style/rural-styled CAS and B/B items, a new little world, some new activities, a few new little events (some types of competitions), some new crops to garden, and, of course, taking care of the new animals like farm animals such as chickens and cows and llamas, and seeing small animals like rabbits and wild foxes as well.

I digged a little thru your profile
    *creep creep*

and I found out you seem to like romance, occassional bad happenings for your sims and seem to like spooky goths as well

well there is some fun in waterfalls, spooky mermaids and island spirits and occassional volcano disaster in island living

and it comes with a lovely new world where sims may have some beachy fun you know those sunglasses might enjoy day in the sun ;)

I have them all but I haven't gotten very far with snowy escape yet the world is pretty though and i enjoy building japanese houses

eco lifestyle i also haven't explored much yet but sure it does have bad things happening to sims aspect that you might enjoy

cottage living you may enjoy agnes crumplebottom attacking your romantic sims again and sure the animals bring some dangers and fun as well and yup theres some lovely things like cross stitching

but idk I just feel like recommending beach fun today
must be cause its cold irl

if you're open to gps though i may suggest waiting for next one since they made it sound like romance is coming

aaand perhaps goths may love to reside in gothy world of forgotten hollow? ;) in which case you may be interested in vampires

    and...

Cottage Living and Island Living are very nearly a tie for me. I will say, as a rotational player, I have spent longer periods of time per household in CL... like, I tend to stay there for a full sim year, or at least a couple of seasons, at a time. On the other hand, I've had IL a lot longer, and still really enjoy going back to those households. So I think that it's fair to say that both have a lot of replayability if they appeal to your particular interests. Both have beautiful settings, gorgeous CAS, and yummy foods. CL probably has an edge in terms of gameplay that you can carry with you to other worlds. Island Living didn't live up to all my hopes for it, in terms of gameplay, but you can't deny that it's one of the prettiest settings in the game and that always keeps me coming back.

Personally, though, I have really enjoyed all four and would recommend any of them eventually, though it sounds like you are trying to prioritize right now.

ETA: I could have sworn I voted for Cottage Living, but apparently not, it's been a long day. :D

Just further evidence that you were not kidding at all when you said "nearly a tie" for you. :)

That was sooooo hard to decide. Snowy escape is nice with skiing, the new tub, new cook thing for the kitchen, and nice snowy town. Cottage Living has it to where you have to get ingredients to make dishes if you want to. It also has a contest at the fair. There are boothes in town to buy all kinds of stuff. More ingredients and foods. I don't like animals tied to structures, but it's better than nothing. The characters in the town are nice.
    Eco Living is OK.
I decided to pick Island Living. The beach, water, and dolphins are nice. Even toddlers can play on the beach. There's a trap to catch fish and a boat. It's very pretty.

They are all great for different reasons, so it's hard to pick.

Cottage Living: What I like most are the new animals, crops and recipes. The new Simple Living lot trait I use often. I also love the old fashioned clothing and decoration items. The villager help quests are fun. I would get this one if you love cooking and farming in the game or like old fashioned style houses and clothes.

Island Living: This world is the most beautiful in my opinion. I love hanging out at the beach, digging for seashells and treasure, making sandcastles, and the mermaid Sims are a lot of fun. I also love the new interactive environmental conversation career where you clean up the beach and improve the ecosystem. The music and decoration items are also really great in this one. I would get this one if you like beachy vacations for your Sims.

Snowy Escape: I love this pack because I really want to visit Japan one day, so I really enjoyed the setting and build buy items. Getting new Japanese recipes and the hot pot and onsen is something I really love. The vending machines, food stalls, and festivals are great. Mountain climbing, skiing and snowboarding is amazing so this is also a really fun pack. I would get this one if you like winter, festivals, mountain climbing and skiing, and Japanese culture.

Eco Living: I really like the crafting in this pack. It's really fun. If you like to create things than you might really like this pack. You can craft at different stations, candles, fizzy drinks, furniture and decoration objects. It's also fun if you like politics, you can vote on neighborhood plans etc. You can also manipulate the eco footprint and create green communities or highly polluted communities, but I haven't experimented much with that, I just really like the crafting in this pack.

From those you listed I own Snowy Escape and Cottage Living. I really like both.

I have to admit I didn't like SE at first because I felt overwhelmed, I didn't understand it but once I got into it I was so happy I bought it. I use it very often. Pretty much more than half of my sims are passionate skiiers, snowboarders or climbers. And I have to say the stress and anger and desperation and oof YOU yourself feel while your sim is doing a mountain excursion... It is all worth it because once you get on top of that mountain (after like 10 unsuccessful tries) it's all gone and you only feel peace and nirvana :D

As for CoL, I love it. I love it so much. I have loved it since day one. I got it about two months after release and I haven't even explored the full pack yet! There is so much to do. The only "downside" is that your sims will be fully occupied with the farm and therefore they don't have much time for fun. But that is what farmers are. I presume when one is farmer they don't want to party hard.

I would recommend both packs 100%. Neither will disapppoint you. Both have extremely beautiful CAS, very very good b&b, so very nice gameplay and super cool music stations!
    -probably just playing Phasmophobia :p

Cottage Living and Eco Lifestyle ate sibling packs. The same is true for IL and SE. The first two are perfect for playing off the grid and off the land challenges. The other two offer beautifull worlds (no really) where your sims can travel or live permanently.

From your list, my recommendation would be Eco Lifestyle, closely followed by Cottage Living.

If you're after gameplay that has more substance to it, and can be used elsewhere (e.g. in other worlds) then these two packs are what I'd look into. While Island Living and Snowy Escape are pretty to look at, I don't think they have much replay value and I've yet to find myself returning to them after the first couple months of gameplay.

Here's a breakdown of the Eco Lifestyle expansion:
    • New world - Evergreen Harbor ships with this pack. It's a decent size, and even has small apartments available to rent. This world also has visual changes depending on your eco footprint.
    • Eco footprint - This pack includes a new environment system. You'll be able to choose whether you want the world to be polluted or clean, and this can either positively or negatively impact your sims. This is done by using renewable and recycled materials and resources, or by using materials and resources that add to your industrial footprint. This feature does take effect other worlds too, but can be toggled on or off in the settings.
    • Neighborhood action plans - Or more commonly referred to as N.A.P's, are community voted plans that will encourage other households to do certain things that can influence the community eco footprint. For example, the Eco-Friendly Appliances N.A.P could be voted in, so you'll be encouraged to upgrade the appliances in your sims home and make them energy efficient. You can influence these votes through socialising, or by completing tasks from current N.A.P's you have active. Again, this feature does take effect in other worlds, but can be toggled on or off in the settings.
    • Community lots - There's a new shared community lot type with this pack. For each of the neighborhoods in Evergreen Harbor, there's one lot that's essentially a dump, but can be turned into either a community garden, market place or a crafting space. These community spaces can be voted for in the same way that you vote for N.A.P's and will turn the lot into whichever option that won the vote. You can also edit these lots in Build/Buy mode.
    • New careers - There's a new Civil Designer career with this pack. This will branch off into two options: Civic Planner and Green Technician.
    • New crafting options - There are a few new crafting machines/equipment, each with a different purpose. This includes the fabricator, the recycling machine, juice fizzing station and candle making station. Items that have been made using the fabricator, juice fizzing station or candle making station can be sold in a retail store or yard sale.
    • Off the grid options - This pack is particularly good for enhancing the Off The Grid lot trait. There are renewable/sustainable water and power sources such as wind turbines and dew collectors, as well as industrial methods such as fuel powered generators. Again, these options can impact the environment depending on what you choose.
    Sims 4 Wish List:
    • > Option to toggle on/off random townie generation.
    • > Turn vacation worlds into residential worlds.
    • > Option to purchase separate worlds or a world pack.
    • > Sleepwear kit.
    • > Atomic age kit.

I would say Island Living as I love it, but I feel like it's a more "niche" pack for if you love island related gameplay, so I'm guessing if it's not one of your first purchases it probably? won't be worth it. A lot of people buy it just for vacations and then get disappointed when they don't get much use out of it as the content is targeted at living rather than holidays. Eco Lifestyles a pretty solid all rounder, it adds a lot of stuff for a lot of different playstyles. Cottage Living, again I'd say it's quite niche, if you're into rural farming stuff you'll enjoy it but otherwise not really. Snowy Escape, it's good for homes and building.

I can't decide between Cottage Living and Island Living. Island Living is better integrated into my game because Cottage Living is still so new. Sulani as a world adds very nice variety to the game whereas the chicken house in CoL is arguably the best object in the whole game. Depends if you prefer tropical island with mermaids or countryside with animals I guess? While Snowy Escape is nice to have, I don't feel passionate about it. Eco Lifestyle has a lot of stuff that I use, but overall I feel a bit meh about the pack.

I have to agree with @Onverser Eco Lifestyle has a lot of gameplay and if your interested in the whole off the grid living it’s a great challenge. I myself have every EP,GP and SP and also all of the Kits as I’m a collector.
