    Got a little behind recently. Just getting caught back up. :smiley:

    Chapter 5.8

    Poor Taz. :cry: Always hard to see them go. Didn't realize he was getting so old.

    Venus and Steve's wedding looks beautiful. Not too much glamor, but just the right amount of style and cozy with family and friends. Gorgeous lighting on those ceremony shots! :love:

    Interesting to get the update that humans are starting to move into New Sixam. Luke certainly put his heart and soul into that book. Good to see that it's making a difference.

    Awwww. Venus and Luke's hug is heartwarming. "Sometimes, a hug is worth a thousand words." So true!

    Woah. Alien abduction? :open_mouth: Poor Steve! What a thing to have happen on your wedding night! This hasn't happened for quite a while. No one was prepared for that.

    Chapter 5.9

    I love the little detail of all the aliens in the room glowing blue with sadness because of Steve's abduction.

    Of course Cassy and Venus aren't going to just sit around and wait. They're definitely going to try to rescue Steve. :smiley: I love that they are using the rocket from their school project. :joy: Totally awesome!

    Oooo. Interesting that Steve and the others were found on the moon (in a cave) and that there appear to be some new kind of aliens involved. Very curious to see what happens next.

    Thanks a lot for the comment @GlacierSnow ;)
    Don't worry, with the ongoing holidays everyone (me included) is focusing on other things (understandably).

    Back to the legacy, I admit that I love that spot for evening weddings because the arc is well-aligned with the sunset, I was quite lucky when I placed that bar and I used it quite often in the parts set in New Sixam.

    But yes, the big turning point in the last few chapters was the alien abduction. That was really unexpected, and I really needed to put some effort to find an explanation at this point in the story. The explanation will come quite soon, but that single event (the abduction) really changed the course of the legacy in the long term, I would say. Consequences are coming...

    Chapter 5.9!
    Ooh so the school project rocket came in handy! Fifteen abductions- I wonder if it's random, or if there's a sort of pattern? The cave looks so pretty! Ohh interesting, so we have what must be a new alien species added to the mix too... I wonder if they have any history with the Sixamians? Woah, I was worried when she said she'd neutralise them, glad it was just freezing them. I wonder what their plan is with abducting them?

    Thanks for the comment @SnowBnuuy !

    The last chapter really closed with a lot of open questions, so many it's actually hard to answer them all without slowing down the story too much...

    Meanwhile, completely unplanned, I've actually just posted Chapter 5.10 on my blog (link)

    This may be the most complicated explanation I've ever given in a story, it's a real mess...

    Awesome!!!
    The Sixamians who have been the victims of discrimination for so long must now figure out what to do with this new element, possibly not so trustworthy, but either way understanding is needed on both sides... Now the shoe is on the other foot!
    Luke's speech at the end melts my heart. <3
    Happy new year!

    Good new twist!

    I was wondering if these new arrivals would turn out to be related to the older generations of Sixamians, since you mentioned back in an earlier season that they used to look a lot different (and I remember something about tentacles). So, very cool to see that they are. I can see why the younger generations (who have really become very similar to humans in more than just appearances) would have a hard time trusting or understanding them. And they definitely didn't make first contact in the best way, so that just made things worse.

    I liked Luke's speech, though. It very much seems like the position he would take. It will be interesting to see what happens with this.

    Chapter 5.10! I actually somehow have time to give you a proper comment today.
    I'm glad Steve is mostly okay at least...Can we just admire the worldbuilding here? The fact that the Sixamian-ish aliens even have their own calendar, something that never comes up amongst different groups in any story. And I like that they're actually sort of 'proto'-Sixamians. Part of me is wondering what made them 'devolve' the long head tendrils now, and what they were for, but that's just me being annoyingly curious : P

    Still, with old civilisations come old viewpoints...not always good. So they want to settle in New Sixam- but at the same time, if they saw Earth as a place to conquer, is that the sort of thing the very modern and more progressive Sixamians will want? It's a tough one, and morally messy at the same time. You don't want to deny them a place amongst your people, but at the same time, you don't want the old Sixamian 'take over Earth' mindset to seep into a town that has done its bit to mend relations fairly well...

    However that said, Luke makes a very good point. Their accusations towards the ancient Sixamians are almost exactly what humans threw at the more modern Sixamians, and there's almost a 'pick-me' element to the modern Sixamians immediately demonising them in a way. He also makes a good point about history. People seem to think that devastating beliefs and events of the past are in the past and we all know that's not true, history repeats itself more often than people will care to admit.

    Thanks a lot everyone for the comments! I realised that chapter 5.10 would have been a quite serious turning point for this generation already when playing it, and I'm glad that you're enjoying reading this part!

    @mightysprite
    This point in the story really was like a role reversal compared to the previous humans-sixamians dynamics, and surely Luke seems to realise it much more than most of the other people in New Sixam. Let's see if now the others will decide to listen to him or not...

    @GlacierSnow
    You really have a good memory for details, I'm quite sure to have mentioned tentacles just once at the end of generation 1!
    Right now instead, a lot remains to be seen about the actual attitude of the newcomers, and how the people in New Sixam will respond... It will probably take a while to answer to all those questions.

    @SnowBnuuy
    About the calendar in Sixam, that's just the kind of thing on which my brain tends to focus a lot instead. I didn't write many details about it in the story because it didn't seem fundamental, but I imagine the Sixam planet calendar to be based on the rotation and revolution times of the planet around its star. Thus I imagine the length of a day and the number of days in a year to be different from our calendar, and the conversion between their calendar and ours not to be very straightforward.
    I also like the use of the word "tendrils" you used to describe the newcomers' heads a lot, I was planning to describe them as tentacles because in my language we don't really have an equivalent word but it sounds quite fitting and more "SciFi-like". Anyway don't worry, at some point more details will be given. Someone else in the story could be at least as curious as you currently are about them...

    About the ancient sixamians current purposes instead, for the moment I can just say that they are very rational beings, which implies that they will pursue what they consider to be the most rational path. Whether their aim will remain the same as they had back in their original epoch or not, remains to be seen...
    As for the possibility of the rest of New Sixam being influenced by their mindset instead, I suspect that they would need to be extremely convincing to succeed considering how few they are (the ancient sixamians introduced in this chapter are about 50, New Sixam makes a few millions of inhabitants). It is not impossible though, it could actually be a quite interesting dynamics to follow. At this point it remains to be seen if it's the same progression I've in mind or not, I guess :P

    I also think Luke's speech to be quite important as well. He immediately pointed to the new dynamic emerging between ancient and modern sixamians, let's see if others will be listening to his warning or not...
    And I'm not only referring to generic people in the country, also some of the story characters could have quite strong and conflicting opinions on the topic at this point.

    I'm all caught up so now I can join in here! :)
    5.7 - I'm so glad that both Venus and Cassy made it through university okay. With how hard Venus was working and with how many activities she had, I was a little worried that things might become overwhelming for her. But she did great and even got engaged! <3

    5.8 - Beautiful wedding! I love Venus' hair for the wedding.

    I'm glad (I think) that things are opening up in New Sixam and that humans are moving in. Hopefully, things will be able to go the other way as well. But Steve is abducted?!?! Yikes.

    Also, RIP Taz. I hate how quickly animals die in this game.

    5.9 - I'm so glad they found Steve! I'm concerned by how quickly Cassy and Venus were to neutralize those two others... I hope they won't regret their decision. These last few chapters have had great suspense.

    5.10 - Interesting revelations. They abducted Steve to read his mind. Hmm... Fascinating that they've turned out to be ancient Sixamians. I wonder how they'll adjust and get along with everyone else.
    I think Luke achieved a lot during his life so far and he is absolutely right. The ancient Sixamians shouldn't randomly be discriminated against, but at the same time old ideas about taking over Earth can't be allowed to flourish.

    I love how you add author’s notes to some of the chapters. I always like to understand behind-the-scenes stuff.

    @haneul , thanks a lot for all the comments!
    Venus was working really hard when in college, but in the end I managed to make her obtain top grades in the courses and play with the soccer team without her ever fainting of exhaustion. I suspect that university in the game could be a bit easier than the one I attended, because otherwise I can't explain how it was possible.

    The wedding was a very enjoyable little parenthesis before the next big turning point in the story, that alien abduction was really difficult to justify and now here we are with ancient sixamians moving in town!

    As for the author's notes instead, I'm actually trying to limit myself in how many personal thoughts to add to the chapters because, otherwise, I could often be tempted to write way longer analyses about what happened, about my intentions or the details I decided not to include in the story. It's the kind of thing that, when I read it again after some time, makes me wonder: "do people really care about this boring wall of text?" :P

    5.11 :)
    I hope Cassy is able to make friends with some of the ancient Sixamians. It seems like she was off to a decent start with the one at the library, but their encounter was awkward (which makes sense given the cultural differences). Hopefully, there will be a next time where things progress more smoothly. I see that the next time does go better! As much as Cassy can show him how to enjoy things like painting and games, I hope that she's also able to learn from his unique perspective too. I like that she also tries to find something nice and encouraging to say about his simple painting. Maybe these two can serve as cultural liaisons for their larger communities.

    I don't know anything about Star Trek/Star Wars/Star anything so any references to these series will be completely lost on me, but it is interesting to see where inspiration for the ancient Sixamians comes from and to confirm that they aren't intentionally similar to any Star ... series.

    On a side note, I love that Nacho is still around as a ghost. <3

    New chapter :smiley:

    I'm happy to see ghost-Nacho still hanging around!

    These interactions between Taq and Cassy are interesting. It looks like they are both curious about each other even if they express it differently. Taq's comment about "spying" in response to what Cassy said about telepathy made me chuckle. After all, she was standing there watching him for a long time. I like how they are making an effort to reach across the divide and try to understand.

    I really like how the ancient Sixamians look.

    Thanks a lot for your comments, as always! This last chapter was quite funny also for me, both to play and to write, :P

    @hanuel
    Cassy for the moment mostly seems curious to learn more about her new neighbours, but she definitively doesn't seem worried about the idea of befriending some of them in the process. To try to guess what's passing through Toq's mind is much more challenging instead...

    As for the "Stars-series" references instead, I admit that I was just looking for some alien-sounding naming system and some more alien-looking accessory to use on the ancient sixamians (the tendrils), but I've never really watched either series either. I usually read books or manga instead of watching movies or series, and so they both remained on my "to-watch" list for a pretty long time now. I know, it's quite a shame for someone writing about aliens... But at least when I'm saying that "any similarity is completely random" I really mean it, as I don't really know the material I would be supposed to be taking inspiration from :P

    Also thanks for the feedback about my own comments at the end of some chapters, I will definitively keep it in mind!

    @GlacierSnow
    Nacho officially (i.e. I decided so) became the mascot of the whole legacy the moment I saw him, even if he's just a ghostly after-imagine he's definitively remaining until the end!

    The ancient sixamians definitively have a very recognisable look, and together with their very serious attitude it could actually make them quite intimidating at times...

    As for Cassy and her new acquaintance instead, they both showed curiosity, that's true, and the differences in their communication habits are also causing already some quite funny misunderstandings (like the "spying" comment).
    Who knows what could happen now though, sims' lives are so short that I really needed to hurry up with the next few updates...

    New chapter : D I really loved this one.
    Ohhh no, Luke has reached the 'wise old man who doesn't stop spitting wise quotes at his kids' age! He's right though, the same story told over and over can lose important details, so it's good to think critically about things. I forgot to say this bit so this bit is more relevant to the past chapter, but, What I find interesting- and what a lot of stories with a central theme of prejudice rarely confront- is the potential of prejudice within a broad group. Modern Sixamians seemingly fearing the ancient Sixamians or at least distrusting them, being very wary of them, and thinking back to what Luke said in the last chapter...It's a really cool angle to add to the story, and it makes it very different from the past generations.

    I get the vibe that ancient Sixamians' way of life is very practical and rigid- enough to live and survive on, but also not much space to thrive or to deviate from what's expected of them by their own society. It seems to be entirely focused on needs with no space for wants, if any.

    I really liked the picture of the ancient Sixamian looking at the art piece; it's a fun contrast between their way of life and the modern Sixamians. Art is very much an expression of all sorts of things, as well as done for pleasure- and that kind of pleasure/expression is something that would likely seem alien (no pun intended) to someone like him. Ah yes here we go, he's asking about the art and I LOVE THIS so much, of him asking about why people here do things with no apparent survival benefit. I really really love Cassy bringing out Toq's creative side, allowing him to express himself for what's likely the first time. Though I feel like it might cause something of a conflict within his own society. A rigid, practical-societied species having a free thinker is not going to down well.

    @SnowBnuuy , thanks a lot for your comment!
    Luke really seems to like the "wise-man advising people" position, and in particular with his daughters it's impossible to hold him back XD

    The dynamic between modern and ancient sixamians is definitively tricky for me to write, but I'm liking all the possibilities given by this new scenario. In the last two generations the protagonists have always been the victims of discrimination, but now the new situation is a bit more complex. Leaning more about the ancient sixamians' perspective could also be useful to understand more, who knows if/when this info will be included in the story... :#

    The painting scenes was actually one of my favourites of this generation, so much so that it will be cited a couple of times in the future chapters, actually.
    As for the ancient sixamians response to all this as a group/society instead... Well, I'm leaving this story to another day :P

    Nice!
    Did you say you had already written the whole story before in Italian, or just a portion?
    I'm kinda curious as to whether any of it is new to you this time around :)

    @mightysprite
    I've actually already written most of the legacy in Italian already, I'm about 10 chapters in Gen 10 with the original version already (and I'm currently trying to elaborate an engaging ending to the whole Legacy!) When translating the legacy here I've added a few extra chapters, such as the one about the octo-idiots in Gen 2, or a few scenes here and there in the other generations. I'm also preparing a couple of other extra chapters to post in about 5-6 chapters, in which I plan to show you the other point of view about a certain plotline which still has to happen (and here I stop spoiling my own story :# )

    As for how much of the story is new this time around anyway, all the core of the story is always remaining the same and at most I'm adding some collateral short stories or making some short portions more detailed.

    Anyway, in the meanwhile I've finally managed to prepare the next chapter, chapter 5.12 is out! (link)

    This chapter is... I prefer not to write any preview this time, you will see by yourselves when/if you decide to read it.

    New chapter thoughts.

    Really sad to see Luke go. I really liked that awkward intellectual guy. :cry: I actually wasn't expecting it quite yet either, and it hit me kind of harder than most of the other character deaths. I think, partly I can just relate to him very easily. 😭 Will miss him for sure.

    I like that you show the family trying to process that event and their emotions. Cassy seems pretty shook up by it.

    Ooooo! But I like Taq! He was really sweet to Cassy in his own way. This is an interesting friendship that's forming between them. Definitely curious to see what else might come of that.

    5.12:
    I was immediately alarmed by the title of this chapter, "Goodbye." I don't want to say goodbye to any of the Millers. I like that Toq is trying to help or at least he seems to be trying to help with Cassy's sadness. I really like Toq.

    Poor Luke. Luke was great. I hope everyone will remember his wise words. Despite it being short and about a fictional alien, this chapter was actually really sad to read.

    Thanks a lot for your comments, as always.

    @GlacierSnow
    I'm going to repeat myself, but I remain of the idea that sims die of old age way too soon. But this is the game, and (sadly) this is also part of playing a Legacy. I tend to bond with practically all the sims belonging to the main household I play with, and losing Luke was definitively not an easy moment :'(

    As for Toq instead... He's quite hard to read in general, but in his own way he seemed to care. His friendship with Cassy is quite, ehm, unusual... Who knows how he's really interpreting this situation, there is definitively still a lot to uncover about it...

    @haneul
    I didn't really know what title to use for this one, but so that I eventually decided to dedicate the whole chapter to Luke's departure this seemed the most appropriate one. I also agree that the chapter was very sad both to write and to read, and the other sims in the save were even sadder than we are. I agree that such sad chapters can be tough to read sometimes, but it's also hard to avoid them. And, as many of you, I was bonded enough to Luke to think he deserved a chapter like this one.

    Toq is a bit unpredictable sometimes (well, I could also say "often"), but he also seems to be quite harmless and good-intentioned (at least for now). Cassy definitively seems to be enjoying her time with him as well, let's see where this will bring her...

    Great chapter!

    Cassy and Toq! :heart: I love these two together. Their moment outside after the dinner was adorable. :love: I've been hoping these two would make a pair. They seem somehow well suited to each other.

    Venus and Steve, on the other hand, don't seem to be warming up to the new arrivals quite as easily. Definitely seem to be some tensions lingering (or perhaps building) between the groups. Arizhel and Antaan are pretty arrogant. Not much effort to try and understand each other there...

    I'm really enjoying this new "ancient Sixamians" twist to the story. You just keep surprising me, and I love it.
