Game Updates and Save Files question

I backed up my save files before updating my game a few weeks ago

After updating, I was tidying my save files and accidentally deleted one of my main saves. So, I copied that save from my backups folder into my saves folder.

Obviously, the save which I copied across was from before I updated my game (and from a much earlier version of the game too). It wasn't 'in' my game when the game updated. And at the time that I updated my game I hadn't updated in I think 7 months so this was quite a big update for me.

I assume that game updates involve changes to save files which this save file won't have got, given that the save file wasn't in my saves folder when I updated. Could that lead to problems? I've been playing it since with no issues so far.

I hope this question makes sense.

Game updates don't literally change your save files themselves; the update only changes the data that will be used by your saves once you load them into the updated game.
FYI: Just because you can see my signature, don't assume that I can see yours.
Because I can't; I keep all sigs turned off. ;)

@VeeDub This. You really shouldn't have to worry about that, other than the general old save wonkiness. As much much as the devs get ragged on for their frequent updates, it never genuinely breaks the save. (Bugs, sure, but I play a few games that are not early access that do just a few big updates and those make all old saves either incompatible or load at your own peril. We have the option to roll back updates, though.)
