Can you change a cat or dog's traits?

Is there a way to change the traits of a cat or dog without cheats e.g. a treat or something? If not, are there any issues with cheating to change their traits in CAS? Sometimes when you change a sim's traits in CAS they still behave as though they have the original traits.

I usually change any pets who have the hairy or fluffy traits as I don't like finding hair balls all over my house. I take them into CAS and just change the trait. I haven't had any issues with them continuing to leave hair balls. I don't think there is another way to change their traits.

Thank you @RedShoe7 it's a shame there's no in-game way of doing it but it's great to know that you haven't had issues with the CAS method. I will give that a go.

Yeah I think I'll have to go down that route. Was a bit hesitant to use this though as when you change sims' traits using cas.fulleditmode they sometimes still behave as if they have the old traits.
