Likes and Dis-likes, Yay! But there's at least one problem

«1

So Yay, in that I'm glad we finally got something like, the likes and dislikes feature meant to enhance gameplay. Only now, just like with some things EA adds to the game, it comes with an annoying issue. Such as during gameplay, the game keeps stopping to open a message box asking if you want to work on some random (or not so random) sims likes and dislikes. Which makes no sense. Now imagine if you have family of sims along with the Parenting Sim Game pack where you already get annoying message boxes asking how you want to discipline or advise your kids every few minutes. Ughh...

Not sure if EA play tested this likes and dislikes feature before adding it or not. But I hope they will adjust this new feature so it stops doing that. Also, the game seems to be also now acting more buggy and lagging in a way I haven't experienced before. I tried to play it the other day and gave up after twenty minutes of it freezing and seeing all of these message boxes keep coming up every five to ten minutes.

Does anyone else find this part of the likes and dis-likes addition annoying, lol? Problems with this addition may have been brought up before, but not sure if anyone mentioned this particular issue.

The pop-ups usually annoy me, too. I wish it was an option within a notification instead and didn’t interrupt the game. I get these pop-ups when any of my played sims are doing activities that trigger them on the lot, even if they are visiting. I’m glad to have that level of control but it takes me offguard and I would rather it happen less intrusively.

I think this kind of thing definitely contributes to lag. I notice the game slow down and then a bunch of things happen all at once, like multiple chance cards for sims at school or work, plus those career phone calls. It’s like they were all coded in to happen at the same time of day instead of randomly at other times.

Recently there has been a new thing happening for me where it gets choppy even when paused or in bb. But if you click the ellipses where the save options are, do nothing and go back, it clears it up for whatever reason.

Pop ups less so than sims still autonomously doing things they dislike and then being tense about it. I love that there seems to be more autonomy with the likes but gosh can they stop doing things they don’t like lol.

Pop ups can be a pain as well though but I haven’t had enough of them to really bother me. But they should do something more than once for the pop up to occur. Cooking or working out once doesn’t mean your sim likes those things. I also don’t like the odd glitch where you pop ups for unplayed sims nearby.

As far as lag I haven’t noticed much worse than normal other than the occasional random spike. But I could see lag worsening with this.

They probably could have been notifications but many wanted their sims being more lively, for their actions to matter more so if they are switched that would be better than not being there at all. Things like that don't bother me so hard to say for anyone else.

I wouldn't mind the pop ups so much if they were for sims in my active household.

Problem is, in my game, I rarely get pop ups about likes/dislikes for my active household.

Instead, I get them every few seconds for households I don't actively play.

This past weekend, I clicked through pop ups for close to an hour asking if every sim in my town liked fitness - none of the other likes/dislikes, JUST fitness, and ONLY for sims I wasn't actively playing.

This happened while my active family was on a community lot, specifically a park. I wasn't able to actually play the game with that happening every few seconds. Gameplay became all about clicking through pop ups about what my NPCs like and dislike, so...I gave up and sent my sims home. At least there, the kids could play in the backyard in peace.

It happened again when they went to a club. I had an influx of pop ups about whether or not every sim on the lot I WASN'T playing liked dancing.

I've gotten ONE like/dislike pop up for my active household. The rest have been for NPCs. Yes, they're sims I created...but not sims I actively play.

They need to tweak like/dislike pop ups to trigger based on the ACTIVE household only and not every household you've ever created. I created replacement households for all the premades, so I'm constantly spammed with pop ups about the likes/dislikes of every sim I created to replace premade NPCs. I kept them all marked as "played" households so they wouldn't get culled, but that's going to be problematic now since likes/dislikes pop ups seem to be tied to all played households instead of the active household.

Seems like getting pop ups for the active household only would have made a little more sense.

Exactly. Hey, that's a good idea. If it popped up in the notification, that would definitely be less intrusive than having the screen frozen.

Right, that's what I mean. It would at least make more sense if it's about the sims household you are already playing and you may even feel encouraged to fill out their likes and dislikes while playin that household

That MIGHT get fixed eventually. I'm betting it's something (one of many things) that didn't get tested prior to release.

There's a post in this thread of a Twitter conversation between a fellow Simmer and a SimGuru about this issue, and the Guru's response was "eeeks, no - you're not supposed to be getting those from Sims you're not actively playing. We'll look into that."

Just depends on whether they consider "actively playing" as the current active household or any household marked as a "played household." Hoping it's the former, because getting pop ups for every sim I've ever created is a touch disruptive. I completely replaced the entire population of Windenburg with a bunch of 8 sim households I created - like, I filled EVERY lot. I loaded each of those families long enough to assign beds, set skill levels, etc., so they all count as "played" households.

I'll pop in on those "minor character" families once a week or so just to make sure everything's cool, but aside from that, I only actively play my main family, so I'm getting pop ups for over 100 sims I don't actively play right now. It's not OK. :p

Strange, I have 3 played households and I haven't seen a single popup for this.

Maybe it's affected by how many Sims have likes/dislikes assigned? I've only assigned them to my main Sim that I'm actually playing with and I've made a point to NOT ask townies theirs because I didn't want them all having the same ones.
Or maybe it's because I picked all 20 and didn't leave any open? I also have autonomy off for the selected Sim, so she can't do things she hates.
Or because I don't own the new pack? Or it's just my luck so far...

I had this happen last night actually. My active household ran into my SimSelf at a club while they were out and about. SimMe dislikes dancing, but I was dancing anyway, looking all grouchy and complaining to Bella Goth the whole time. :D

It can't be a notification because it's a question. I would hate if the game autonomously assigned likes and dislikes based on what the sim is doing. At least we get a chance to refuse. (I wouldn't mind if we didn't have this feature at all though).

I've had a lot of pop-ups come from households I'm not currently playing and it's really a problem that I hope they'll fix.

I love these because you can just choose to like everything and hate nothing. I usually just choose 4-5 types of music and then like activities till I’m full up. I do get a random pop up for a NPC household it’s one that I “played” aka editing club locations, careers and suck. When I do I just choose the option I pick what would be best for their personality. That is unless that particular Sim annoys the heck out of me then I always choose hate just to make them miserable 😈(We all have our liked NPCs and the ones you live to annoy any chance you get).

I'm getting random messages saying that "Sim A" has become friends with "Sim B" have become friends. Both Sims that I'm not playing at the time & have never played. I mean I'm glad they've become friends but I don't need to know about it!

I kind of like it, that way I don’t have to go into every family to pick all their likes and dislikes in manage households, I have a big rotation.

Really bizarre that the guru seemed so surprised that you get pop-ups for sims you aren't playing at the time. That would happen within a few minutes of playtesting would it not?

Does anyone know how to set the like/dislike for decor styles? I only see how to set color, music and hobbies.

I think most simgurus expect QA to pick up on things like that (which they don't).

Do you have the dream home decorator pack? That's a feature from that pack.

Aha just got the pack last night to let minisprite live out her interior designer dreams, practically had to pry it away from her at bedtime, haven't played it myself yet :) thanks @logion

Thank you! This is what I was referring to in my last comment. Wasn't sure how to get the images to show up.

I would prefer for the discovered likes & dislikes to be completely random with no popups. Just let the sims discover what they like or dislike and give them the traits automatically. I just don't want to have to decide every single detail of their lives, randomness it's what keeps the sims interesting for me.

This happens to me also, and it just not getting pop-ups regarding household I am not playing at the moment, I also have to take it in to concideration and ponder the question. Do Don Juan like training, he does not have the active trait and if I say no will my world class seducer turn very fat?! The question is obvious for active Sims but for the rest who I haven't assigned likes and dislikes for...

My game is a pretty complex, interwoven, multigenerational story at this point. I evicted all the premades from Windenburg way back when I first started this game and populated the whole town with large families I'd created. My active family are the main characters, and every other sim in town is a minor character in the story.

I have ideas about each character's personality. The minor characters aren't QUITE a fleshed out as the major characters are, of course, but (after I spent 3 days fixing my game after the patch and got everything working again) I DID take the time to go through town and set some basic likes/dislikes for all my minor characters since I've developed basic personalities for them as part of the story.

I wondered if maybe that's what triggered the pop ups for non active households, but I'm not sure because it seems it's happening to other players who did NOT set likes/dislikes for their non-active households, too.

It happens mostly on community lots in my game. Going to a community lot is an exercise in frustration right now. Because my entire town is populated with sims I created, I get pop ups for every sim on a community lot every time my active family leaves the house.

I think pop ups are coded to occur for anything flagged as a played household as opposed to just being for the active household...which is fine for players who only have ONE played household...but not so much for people who play rotationally.

As for me, I focus on my main household and do quick check ins on the other families I created, but I don't actively play them...and I already took the time to set likes/dislikes for the minor characters anyway, so I'm just like, leave me alone, pop ups! Gah! :p

I jump between households and they all have a part to play in my world, some much more then other so I have to contemplate all this basic questions that pop up, does he or does she not...I also suspect that all these likes and dislikes comes from base game

This is what 99% of my likes notifications have been about: fitness. I finally realized it's because this is triggered every single time a random sim goes jogging through the neighborhood. In other words, every few seconds. So, that's a serious problem.

The other 1% of the time it's for video games, if some random sim in the area pulls out their phone to play with it: including some sims I deliberately gave a video game dislike.

I haven't had it (yet) ask me to work on likes and dislikes...it's probably coming, though. What I really don't like is when it tells me about other Sim's likes/dislikes, and they're not even one of my Sims. Examples; "Should Geoffrey Landgraab like electronica music?", or "Should Dominic Fyres like working out?". I don't care what they do, or what they like/dislike...
