$30 CAD for Dream Home Decorator?!

sims2freak737sims2freak737 Posts: 2,543 Member
Can someone please explain to me why the new Game Pack is $30 CAD?! I swear everytime they release a new pack it gets more and more expensive! Did the price go up for U.S. based customers or any other countries? Is anyone else fed up with this?

The Sims 4 is around $800 CAD!!! EIGHT HUNDRED DOLLARS and now the price of packs has gone up yet again.

I can already say that based off reviews there is no way in heck I'm paying $30 for this pack... From what I've heard, it's not even worth the usual Game Pack price of $26 CAD.

I hadn't looked at the price yet. I did notice that the usual places like Best Buy or EB Games doesn't even have a game pack on their sites. Even CD Key's doesn't have it listed
I guess I am waiting until a sale or I can bundle with an expansion (might need another stuff pack to come out) :(

I saw a lot of people on Twitter wondering why they can't bundle it yet. I'm so tired of the blatant greed with EA.

Double checked as I hadn't paid much attention when I ordered, but it was 19.99 when I bought it so US price hasn't went up. :#

I did some sleuthing and noticed it was the same. I'm so tired of Canadian prices going up without any explanation. And it's not the exchange rate because $26 CAD is mere cents below the $20 USD.

The last time prices went up everywhere OUTSIDE of America. American players were all "Oh, it's not happening to me so it doesn't matter." The prices went up in America six months later. And they were all "How could this HAPPEN?!"

So you can bet if they go up somewhere, they'll go up everywhere.
Every time a pack comes out, I upgrade my Special Project.

Did EA release a game that flopped recently? Usually EA ups other country's prices when they lose money. They tend to keep the US prices the same, though. I think I remember reading a thread about it back in 2018 when the same thing happened.

When specifically are you talking about? 4 has been going on for 7 years now and the US prices have been a stable $10, $20, $40 (which is pricey for DLC), and now $5 for kits.

The only real difference I remember is the launch and preorder base game prices. ($80 for some versions in 2014.)

If that's true that is such garbage they would do that...

That's insane that a Game Pack costs more than half the price of an Expansion Pack.

I live in the US and the price is still $20 USD. Is it possible for you to switch your country on EA to the United States and purchase it for cheaper? It sucks that they're charging more, I hope for your sake that it's just a glitch.

Can we do like a game/$$ exchange? US simmer buys a game and a Canadian simmer sends $20 USD through PayPal to them or something?
I don't actually know if this is possible or not lol

    Never mind, not possible. Bummer.

JTB is that price as well so I am presuming they increased the cost to Canada for some reason or other. Definitely not the exchange rate as this time. Dang because I really wanted this one. Waiting on sale as well.

Nope, Euro price is still the same at 19,95 and has been the same since Outdoor Retreat

I was debating on checking that because with the current exchange rate, it might be cheaper to use my Canadian card on a U.S. website which is absolutely ridiculous if you ask me...

I'm just going to wait for a sale though regardless. I haven't heard anything too positive about the pack so far.

I asked the same question when JTB came out but I figured it was just more expensive because of the IP they used. It's just infuriating they do it without any sort of warning and explanation of why they're doing it.

Somebody on Reddit says it’s more expensive in Brazil too.

Its usually more expensive in other countries. I also have to pay extra in my country for any of the packs so I have to really decide if I want a pack or not. I will be getting the gamepack because I really like it but will skip the kit pack.
I have spent so much money on all my Sims games. In fact I have been playing Sims since the beginning so I will be stopping with Sims 4 and wont be buying Sims 5 unfortunately.

I'm starting to wonder if EA wants The Sims to fail so they don't need to be responsible for it anymore and can move on to other projects. What they're doing here doesn't seem wise.

So sorry you have to deal with this!

That's very weird. That's considerably above what the exchange price should be (24 CAD) and taxes are separate so that also doesn't account for the price increase. Honestly maybe try reporting it as a bug and see what they say as it shouldn't be that much more

They could just sell The Sims franchise to a game studio that actually loves and respects the game and its fans. I'd like that a lot!

Same for me. The only way I'm playing The Sims 5 is if it's free haha

The price increase is BS. We already have to deal with higher prices because of exchange rates, now they're charging some countries more for the same pack? Completely unfair.

Somebody in the Reddit thread I mentioned earlier (are we allowed to link to Reddit I don’t actually know) says it’s also more expensive in Poland.
I was actually searching the subreddit to see if this happened in other regions as well.

I'm from Poland and it's the same. I thought that JtB was more expensive due to licensing issues and that it was a one-off change. Other game packs cost around 63 PLN (17 USD) and the new pack is 81 PLN (22 USD) and those prices already include the 10% discount from the EA Play subscription.

This is one of the reasons I haven't bought this pack yet. For a team that supposedly values transparency and open communication, they conveniently forgot to announce new pricing.

I think the reason it ticks me off is the fact we are only separated by a border. And for that matter We are in the middle technically because of Alaska. Wish I had a boat and I would just sail down the coast and pick it up.

Oh wait. If I could afford a sailboat I wouldn't care about the cost.
And I have been simming since the beginning as well. In fact it was the Sims that got me thru my divorce. You can let off a lot
    of "steam" playing sims. o:)
