Building houses from photos that catch your eye!

How many of you have done this in the Sims?

Some of you would have seen that I made an attempt at a "classicism" style house recently from an Architectural Digest article - I also struggled with it and didn't do a particularly great end job, in my own opinion :D, but it was a fun project, and no doubt I will do it again next time something catches my eye.

I do have to say that the house in this article (link below), which is not far from where I live, regularly catches my eye, especially with its extraordinary location and view. But when I actually saw the article, that was the first time I got the little Sims lightbulb go on in my head. I may give this a go, next. If anyone else is interested in giving it a go also, I'd love to see your efforts!

    Lordy folks, this gets better.

I'm probably not going to consider building this one just at the moment, but maybe someone should - too fascinating, especially at that age.

i usually google some houses before i build anything just to get some house shape ideas

+ if i see some nice houses in tv shows i watch i might do something similar in game

but recently my obsession has been hunting for houses in game paintings

cause i did paranormal stuff painting inspired house recently and it turned out to be so nice and I'm hoping there is more epic houses to be discovered :sunglasses:

but yeah i usually just do exteriors cause the sizing can be wonky and make layouts pure torture

I build most of my houses like this. I start from a front picture of a house I like and build around it. If I'm lucky I find a project with multiple pictures, but that's not always the case :D

I guess the beauty of the big white one I've posted above is that if I'm really desperate for detail, I can literally drive by it and take a good look close up. :D

Indeed! I rarely build an existing house in its entirety, but I’m currently working on one that’s not too far a drive from where I live. It happens to be a historical building and most of the interior has been scanned and placed online for patrons. I can build it while doing my virtual 3D walk through. It’s pretty amazing!

Usually I look for a specific style and collect images from different buildings. This way I can combine elements that I like and create a unique looking build. They’re my Franken Builds and it’s my most common way of building.

That's fantastic! Wish I could see the inside of the Port Noarlunga house, but never mind. I'll do what I can of the exterior. I drive to the area fairly regularly anyway, as there is a good restaurant stretch there, too. :)

Our "historic" buildings are all quite young, as European settlement is only a little over 200 years old in Australia.

Our richest history obviously is the indigenous history, e.g. rock paintings that are tens of thousands of years old. I can't quite build those in the Sims though. :)

I have googled floor plans before and built homes from ideas I've seen in the photos or layouts, The longer I play the sims I feel like I run out of ideas so I like to use real lots for inspiration

Okay well I've already thrown in the towel on this one.

It took me less than half an hour to have a bit of a tantrum with this. I've lost interest now!

    @DeanXeL - Wow.

The likeness you've created is very impressive.

@PriestessDreadful Thanx, I could've done even a bit better with the flower pot in the fence and the white stripe in the stone wall, but I think it's close enough xD Only thing really missing IMO is the fancy gate :'( But hey, only basegame can be difficult :D
