Victorian Era Part 16: the beach/lido

Victorians liked a bit of the seaside - but no worlds except Sulani have beaches! So I made a beach/lido little 20x15 lot.

Includes three beach huts, a toilet and a café offering tea, coffee and ice cream.

Victorian Era Part 17: The 'Coffee House' and 'Ladybirds'

I'm going to choose my wording very carefully here because I want to follow the family friendly guideline of the forum.

In the Victorian era, there was a very common occupation. It was mainly taken up by women, but also some men. It involved men paying for a service from these women. The Victorian slang for this occupation was 'Ladybirds' and the location of their occupation was referred to as a 'Coffee House'.

I'm only going to show the image of the outside of the 'coffee house' because the images I took of the inside include sims engaging in naughty behaviour. It is designed to look like a slightly crumbling old Georgian manor that has been converted for its new use. It has one bathroom and all other rooms are bedrooms.

    Residential 20x15 lot.

I think I can just about get away with showing you one image of the Ladybirds too:

    7ed4cdbbcb1113eae01ad749efb1ae9982be92fc.png

These Ladybirds are led by Madame Minnie Morris. She is highly protective and caring for the Ladybirds she employs and ruthless against any customer who dares to cross her or them.

Victorian Era Part 17: The Slums

I think this is my favourite lot of the Victorian era: two rows of slum housing that sit in the shadows of the factory where they all work.

Do you recognise the Townies that live here?

All on a 30x20 residential lot. The factory is all woodworking and candle-making.

EmersedCrown: your stories and builds are all awesome! I am amazed by all of them and plan to download many of your lots for my own games. I would love to do your challenges as enjoy making characters and towns from the past, and follow the time periods closely. I haven't done anything in sims 4 but may try once get the world from Cottage Living. I usually use Sims3 in the older looking worlds where the surrounding areas look more the part. I worry that the surrounding views in sims 4 will affect my immersion into a time period due to the view of skyscrapers in the distance, trains, etc. How do you do it? Just wanted to say that your challenges have got me thinking more about delving into this type of gameplay.

@maggiemae8135 Thank you so much! Starting with Cottage Living sounds like a great idea - I cannot wait for the potential that this pack could add to the challenge.

I don't tend to notice the surrounding areas much, so it doesn't really bother me. The harder one is Townies wandering around in their randomly generated modern outfits! To fix that, I use the NPCC mod to ensure that Townies are not generated by the game and I can control what Townies look like as much as possible.

I really recommend this gameplay, I found it added so much fun to the game.

Victorian Era Part 18: the Chip Shop & Bakery

I've uploaded it as a retail lot, but the upper floors are also fully furnished as flats for the shop owners so it could be residential too. There's room for a couple on one side and a family with three kids on the other.

Edit: I've also just noticed that the picture of the whole build is showing the back, not the front! I sweat the front of the shops doesn't look as grotty as that!

Victorian Era Part 19: the Fancy Restaurant

Inspired by the design of the original Trocadero building, this fancy restaurant is sure to meet all of your gentleman and ladies culinary desires.

In my head, the restaurant is called The Orangery. Because I used so many orange trees in this build...

    30x20 lot.

    Victorian Era Part 21: Selvadorada

In the challenge, Selvadorada is used to represent the British Empire in Asia. I therefore made all of the lots inspired by British colonial/traditional architecture in Asia. Take a look:

A base game only bar based on the Crag Hotel in Malaysia:

    700996c5c40842b1c66cb07f7a6d41e508699d6f.png

A rental place based on the black and white houses of Singapore:

A rental place based on the traditional Burmese Teak Farmhouse:

    7771b1314d8ec20220314b8a9a142092aee38ad8.png

A rental place based on the Bangla Ghar (bungalows) of Bangladesh:

    e0f89ad161f2adf30d8366d16c4d2314443c1c0f.png

A military fort (rental) based on Anchuthengu Fort in Varkala, India:

    196071bf008aabca29d47f5c84a4890eb1f7d41e.png

And this last one gets a few more picures because it is my favourite: A cafe lot based on the Paghmann gardens of Afghanistan (the real gardens are long destroyed)

    67868f056256a8ed3c687c1da635a4ef5f245db2.png

    c4e93368b44f7e2d65c0f26de2bd2da738b29719.png

And with that, the Victorian era is complete!

I'm going to waiting for the release of Cottage Living before I start the Early 20th Century, so it might be a little while until the next post. In the meantime, please let me know if you've been playing, building or generally musing on the Great British Sim Challenge!

I'm back and here to start the Early 20th Century builds!

This era covers 1900-1939, so... a lot of stuff happens.

The first build is a Great War memorial:

    c5ea78f10667da205cc05d65a8a8e14a259d155b.png

In Britain, war memorials are everywhere. They’re commonly found in the middle of towns and villages. The thinking was that people would pass by them frequently and be reminded of the soldiers' sacrifice.

Another war related build, this time a coastal bunker from World War II:

It functions as a tiny living residential.

Lady Emma & Lord John longed for children for years, with no success. Lord John then started an affair with their butler, Sara, who became pregnant with twins. For Lady Emma, there was no other choice - she would pretend the children were her own and continue to live under the same roof as her husband and his mistress. That way, everybody gets what they want and the neighbours know nothing scandalous...

Art Deco semi-detached 1920′s style British homes.

The two sides are for some very different neighbours: the left-hand side is for a single sim/couple with a decadent lifestyle. The right-hand side is for a large - and slightly chaotic - family.

    1920′s style council housing.

The left-hand side home has room for a family of four and the right-hand side is a family of three. In both instances, living space is pretty tight.

I realised I hadn’t made a vet since the Tudor era so it was about time we had a new one!

This is an early 20th century dairy farm on a 30x20 lot that functions as a vet

I'm finding I haven't got much time these days to keep updating the forum as well as everywhere else, so I've fallen quite a bit behind. I'm going to stop posting here, but if you ever want to find out more about the challenge then in a search engine look for 'Sims 4 The Great British Sim Challenge Tumblr' and you will hopefully be able to find the post which gives you access to the full challenge in case you want to try!
