If you weren't aware, EA just lost it's exclusivity deal with Star Wars. Journey to Batuu didn't receive the highest reviews (understatement LOL). What do you think?
I know right ! To me all the other game packs before JTB was perfect. I guess there always one bad apple in the bunch. 😁
True, I liked all the Gamepacks before this. Given that Journey to Batuu currently has a whopping 1.6 on Google Reviews, a 1.0 User Reviews on Metacritic, and Mixed reviews on Steam, I'd say it was a FLOP. Disney don't want nothing to do with that
Yeah, with the Mandalorian booming in popularity and the Boba Fett spinoff coming, no doubt Lucasfilm wanted free reign again.
Also, I suspect the reason the devs did Batuu when they did was because that exclusive licensing was running out and they knew they wanted to do a Star Wars pack for The Sims somewhere down the line. That would explain why the timing was kind of strange when other community requests were still backed up and they decided to do it sooner.
I doubt that it was just Journey to Batuu. They had probably planned to recreate Lucasfilm Games for a while.
I'm looking forward to see what new games we will see now. The new Indiana Jones game from MachineGames and Bethesda seems promising.
I'm also looking forward to see what an Indiana Jones Game would look like. Bethesda is a solid publisher, with games like Prey and Dishonored. And Bethesda's famous for worldbuilding, so the world will probably be really cool.
I don't think it had as much bearing as Disney's acquisition did. Perhaps Disney sees more profit in letting other studios use the IP.
We saw a few good titles from EA, but for the most part, EA mistreated the Star Wars franchise. Journey to Batuu shouldn't even be a thing. It's a blow for Star Wars just as much as it is for The Sims' reputation.
Sims had nothing to do with that as it wasn't even on hard-core gamers radar. The dissatisfaction with what EA was doing with the license was for other reasons. They cancelled 3 Star Wars games that fans were pretty excited about. Most gamers were complaining that EA didn't deserve the license for those reasons.
It is hard to say what was in the minds of Disney, but I am fairly certain JTB had nothing to do with it. As has been mentioned, EA has cancelled several SW games and has for long spans left the IP idle. If they are not really using it, they should not have exclusivity. Though, it has yet to be terminated from what I remember.
Star Wars going to the Stuff Pack Team is understandable for a game like The Sims. Going to the Expansion Pack team to make something really special, that would be understandable too. But it went to the Game Pack team because they needed that bigger budget to make a World but deep in their hearts EA knew that the majority of Sims players are 30-year-old women who don't know a pig's ear about Star Wars and are only buying it for the clothing and furniture. And the clothing is pretty cool and if you're making sci-fi houses that was cool furniture too.
But I swear I don't know a **** about Star Wars.
Every time a pack comes out, I upgrade my Special Project.

I agree, also very disappointed that Amy Hennig’s open world game was cancelled. She oversaw the first three Uncharted games at Naughty Dog. Now Ubisoft is doing their own open world game with the Division developers. Battlefront was controversial due to its loot boxes and micro transactions tied to game progression. I think Fallen Order was one of the only SW games to be receive praise from both critics and players. This whole Disney/EA era has been pretty messy.
It was EA being EA - enough said. Would you want YOUR reputation to be tied to literally the cruddiest game maker out there? Don't get me wrong, I love my Sims - but it is the only EA product I play. And if it were sold to someone else, I'd probably be tickled pink.

If you think EA is even in the top 5 of bad game publishers...

They are.
Even in the gaming industry they are despised by others.
EA won America’s worst company two years in a row. You don’t get that for nothing.
Look. I mean seriously, I went to see what was at the bottom. What everybody begged for? Hotels. Schools. Murder Mysteries. What nobody, anywhere, wanted? Star Wars. Seriously, VEGANISM came higher, and we already have Vegetarian Sims. We got the Eco Living Climate Change Expansion first.
So it's pretty obvious that the Game Pack Team was basically forced to do this pack. They gave us this poll, then probably told the bosses that it's obvious Sims 4 players aren't Star Wars players and weren't given a choice.
To me, it almost seems like they're doing it backwards.

Seems like Karma to me

They should just remove it from the store altogether. It's constantly on sale so I doubt it sold well.

THANK GOODNESS. Let's just hope they don't try and make The Sims 4: Battlefront Stuff LOL
