Making the game faster

«1
I've heard some players mention in the past that cleaning out your sims inventory will make the game operate faster with less loading screen time. Does anyone know if this is true. If you found this to be true or noticed any other changes after doing this, feel free to share your experience here.

I haven’t noticed that, but regularly clearing out my screenshots folder helps a lot.

I can't say I've noticed anything make it faster except less packs installed or upgrading computer specs.

If you delete the tray folder all yours sims and houses will disappear from your gallery. Any you made or downloaded to your gallery will also be gone. I just had to delete my tray files. My game runs faster but I had a 1000+ files in there.

I play on console so there is no way for me to speed up the game unless I buy the new consoles(which unless a miracle occurs isn't gonna happen) Oddly though if I bash the notification Icon in the top right when experiencing build/buy mode lag, the game speeds back up to normal. "Oddly" not sure if this works on pc

Yeah it's true. I had one household which loaded really slowly, when I cleared out their inventory they loaded much faster. This included things in their household catalogue, and items in their inventory like collectibles and photos.

Tray folder, relationships between sims, save file size affects load times as well. If you have a save that you have played for a long time you are going to get longer loading times but I think Maxis have done a pretty good job with improving it over the years.

In PC, we hit esc button to bring up pause menu to fix the lag in build/buy.

I didn't notice my sims' personal inventories slowing things down. I think the game doesn't even load the inventories of sims other than my current household anyway.
But my legacy family has many collectables stored in different crates (the ones that came with Eco) and their lot lags badly. Since this is my only laggy lot I assume the crates' inventories are to blame.

I had one household which had a sim which had taken loads of photos, he had over 100 photos in his inventory and I when I loaded that household to play it I could notice that the game loaded slower. This was a couple of years ago though and I think they have improved it somewhat.

It depends upon the size of the inventory. If multiple Sims in a household have lots of stuff in their inventory, it does slow down the game. If you have a lot with a lot of clutter, it has the same effect. Your computer CPU has to account for all of it, and if it gets rendered on screen, it also involves your GPU.

One good habit to develop in game is to regularly inspect Sim's inventory to see what has shown up in there. Sims accumulate a lot of random stuff, and it doesn't hurt to clean it out. Most things in inventory can be sold, and that helps with household income.

Household inventory, located in Build/Buy Mode, is another place that things accumulate, and some of those items can fetch a pretty penny if you sell them.

If you have Eco Lifestyle, recycling items in your inventory is a great way to get resources for fabrication.

All of these things are ways to improve game performance and increase household income at the same time.

I play rotational with 26 families currently and I noticed my game was starting to slow down so I went round all of my played families and cleared out their inventories and their household inventories and my game has been running smoother.

The only way I know of to speed up the game, and not by much, is to get a SSD installed on your computer.

Apparently from what I saw in James Turner's and lilsimsie's new videos about their builds in The Snowy Escape you shouldn't have too many wallpapers so not having too many might speed up your game! Even the default one counts. They've both posted about their three lots each today.

Just use common sense. Sometimes less is more. Gallery builds with tons of building cheats and clutter really slow down loading times for me. I have a high-end gaming computer and I play on ultra and even it can struggle with some builds.

When I am not using the gallery I go to options and disable online content. Taking the game offline creates noticeable difference for me.

Also, before I play I do a clean boot so the only things running at startup are necessary windows processes and my antivirus. Activating windows game mode is a must for me.

Making the game into a “windowed” mode. Just go to setting—>graphics—>display type and choose windowed or windowed full screen. This makes my game laggy and the image so ugly and squishy, I just play in full screen

Ah okay. I've tried that before. It made my graphics not look as clear and I'm a snob about graphics. :D Ty so much. <3

@Sharonia no Windows actually has a game mode. It's in settings. Or in the windows search bar type Game Mode and it gives you an option to turn it on.

I once had a sim who had a big garden and a LOT of fruits and vegetables in her inventory. Her household started to be quite laggy but cleaning her inventory really helped. This too was couple of years ago but at least back then it really had an effect.

Clearing out my computer in general really helps. I recently moved most of my non-Sims files onto an external hard drive, and things sped up in game considerably.
